Hazel was on her way back to her and Heather’s dorm room in a hurry. She just got out of her creative writing lecture, and is rushing back to join Heather, who was studying in their shared flat on campus. All her belongings were pressed against her chest, as she had underestimated the amount her Wishbone tote bag could carry.
Unnaware of how fast she was walking, naturally Hazel runs into someone.
“I’m so sorry!” Hazel quickly apologises, bending down to gather her belongings.
“It’s ok. Let me help you.” The person offered, helping Hazel gather her belongings.
They both stood up and the girl handed back Hazel’s copy of Heartstopper volume 6.
“Thanks.” Hazel said shyly, looking at the floor.
“You read Heartstopper?” The girl asked curiously.
“Yeah. It’s my favourite book series.”
And that was when Hazel lifted her head to look at the girl.
The girl had dirty blonde hair that hung around her shoulder blades, eyes that seemed to blend from blue to green. She must be around 5’8 and must work out often, due to the abs.
“You know, my girlfriend loves to read Heartstopper aswell.” The girl spoke, trying to make conversation.
Hazel was just too shy to speak.
“I’m Brynlee.” The girl introduced.
“Hazel.” Hazel just managed to murmur. “Sorry if I seemed rude. My autism gets the best of me when talking to new people.”
“That’s ok.” Brynlee laughed quietly.
Then she said something that made Hazel’s mind go crazy.
“Do you want to come over to my flat later? My girlfriend is visiting from Liverpool. She goes to a uni that specialises in performing arts.”
Hazel doesn’t really know what to say. She only just met Brynlee. But she does seem nice.
“I can come over later. I’m studying with my girlfriend for a few hours but after I’ll be free.”
Brynlee smiles. “That’s great! You can bring your girlfriend over aswell. Do you want my number so you can message me when you’re coming?”
“Sure.”
She takes out her phone, handing it to Brynlee to type in her number.

Brynlee and Hazel walk until they reach Hazel and Heather’s flat. On the way there, both girls took time learning more about each other. Brynlee does basketball and swimming in her spare time and her major is psychology.
“This is my flat.” Hazel says, as they stand outside the tall building.
Brynlee just nod. “My flat is the next block along. About a 5 minute walk.”
“Oh, I know where that is. See you later?” Hazel does her best to sound friendly.
“Yeah.”
And then Brynlee starts walking in the direction of her flat.
Hazel stays stood outside, smiling.
She just made a friend.
