Kyoka Jiro
At the UA entrance exam
“Holy Shit!”
It was only when the exam robot crashed through a fucking WALL when Kyoka Jiro was starting to consider if the 0.2% acceptance rate UA was famous for, simply stemmed from most students just fucking dying in the entrance exam. She got that these bots were meant to simulate dangerous villains, but this felt like slight overkill. She had managed to ambush five of the relatively slow four-legged 2-pointers and a single 1-pointer thanks to her quirk allowing her to detect them before they turned the corner, but after disabling the last one with a soundwave, a 3-pointer just decided to drive through the building to her left while she was catching her breath.
“TARGET ACQUIRED! PREPARING TO EXTERMINATE!”
Shaken back into really by the five-something ton treaded machine rolling towards her Kyoka scurried back on her feet, eyes and jacks darting around for the nearest escape route. Back into the main street? Too risky, not too many students had remained in the starting area, there might be stray robots who’d spot her. Into the house the robot had crashed out of? Not enough time to get around it. Just disable it? Possible, but the girl wasn’t too sure if she could amplify her heartbeat far enough to disable something so massive, so that’d be her last resort. So, what if…
“Heeeeeeelp, he’s gonna eat my ass!!!”
Both her and the bot froze in confusion and glanced over her shoulder to spy another student, a blond boy with a single back streak in his hair sprinting towards them from the back ally, another 3-pointer in close pursuit. Shit, he looked useless and just doubled the danger for herself! Now she needed to get both of them out of… Wait wait wait, both of them, that’s it! A sly smile shot across Kyrokas face as she had an absolutely terrible idea.
“Hey dumbass, bring it over here, now!”
The girl dashed towards the other student, desperately the missile racks on the back of the robots weren’t just for show. A glance over to the boy just showed even more panic, maybe with a dash of confusion. Sigh. Fucking clueless. At least the first half of her plan seemed to be working as intended, once she got outside of a few meters of her bot, it lowered its missile rack and took aim. Now let’s hope they don’t have homing missiles or anything, that would really be overkill, and they weren’t actually trying to kill their student. Hopefully.
As she heard the swish shwish shwish of several rockets being launched she quickly threw herself to the left, the missiles smashing into the ground and detonating in small explosions. Not enough to blow anyone up, but that would leave some nasty burns and broken a few bones if it had hit her. Now, they just created a harmless dust cloud and left her sensitive ears tingling. Her heart beating so fast she feared it would leap out of her chest and abandon her, she turned to face her 3-pointer.
“Hey you! Stupid robot, umm villain!” wonderfully eloquent as always, she thought to herself. Maybe they’d have courses for that at UA? Anyways, just keep bluffing, what would be believable here?
“My quirk makes me ummm… missile-proof! Yeah, they phased straight through me, didn’t you see?” – “BELIVABLE, I SAID, BRAIN WHAT TF WAS THAT???” she yelled at herself. “IDK I PANICKED, OKAY?” her brain replied. “THERE IS A GIANT MURDER BOT TRYING TO KILL US!” Well, that was terribly helpful, wasn’t it? At least the bot seemed just as confused and lowered its missile racks. Stick to the plan me! At this point she was sweating bullets.
“And my only weakness is vehicular manslaughter! Yeah! Would be a real shame if SOMEONE DROVE INTO ME AT HIGH SPEEDS!” Kyroka desperately hoped that the bot was slightly dumber than the guy behind her.
“ENGAGING RAMMING SPEED!”
There we go, worked like a charm. She turned and dashed into the dustcloud behind her as the 3-pointer revved its engine. How did it even do that with tank treads? No matter, the important thing was that it was going to zoom down the alley in a few seconds into a dustcloud it couldn’t see into. As long as the other kid hadn’t died, fainted or got exploded in the last three seconds this should work. Maybe.
“Ah, its right behin… umpf!” The blond dumbass outline appeared in front of her, threatening to run straight past her into her 3-pointer. So Kyroka did the only logical thing, tackling the boy into the cover of the 2-pointer she disabled earlier. The impact knocked the air out of his lungs, so he took a deep breath, probably to continue screaming, so she whipped her jack in front of his lips so make him stay quiet. At least he was unable to get up with her lying on top of him, so that was a win.
From both sides of the dust cloud two very heavy and probably expensive machines charged in, in pursuit of their prey. And as it turns out, 5-ton bots moving at full speed carry quite a bit of momentum.
“EXTERMIN…”
SMASH
Kyrokas ears were still ringing from the explosions earlier, and that impact was deafening enough to set her hurling forwards in pain, so, so, so LOUD! She couldn’t see, feel or even THINK with her head ringing like that. But after a few seconds the world came back into focus… to someone patting her back?
She blinked the dust out of her eyes. She was lying on something… soft and warm, rather than the cold concrete floor she was expecting. And why did the floor have a heartbeat?
BADABUM BADABUM BADABUM…
“Oh HELL no!” She had collapsed on top of the other student, who was now shooting her a concerned smile as he was rubbing her back. Kinda sweet, but he was way to CLOSE!
“Hey, you alright? You just kinda passed out on me there.” His smile widened, now grinning from ear to ear, the kind of smile which Kyroka almost wanted to pull out sunglasses for. Plus, it was kinda adorable. “Wait, brain, what are we thinking, slowwww down…”
“That was totally badass just now! I got super freaked out and thought I was gonna die there, but then you came in like a goddamn pro hero!”
The girl could feel blood rushing to her face. She didn’t know what she expected him to say just now but that definitely wasn’t it! Plus, her brain was starting to tap-dance in a way she DEFINITLY didn’t appreciate. On top of that she was hyperaware of just how fast her heart was beating. Surely that was just from all that running and jumping around. Right? RIGHT!?
“Ummmm, I didn’t, I mean I-I, ummm…”
“Brain stop STOP, we are IN THE MIDDLE OF THE UA ENTRANCE EXAM RIGHT NOW, SHUT UP, HES NOT EVEN THAT CUTE, PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER RIGHT NOW, OR I WILL…” But before her brain had any chance to comply, (in its defence, its response time wasn’t great in this particular situation), the blonde continued.
“Plus, you are a totally gorgeous babe, would you like to go on a date with me after the exam?”
While her brain had been moving at the pace of a snail moving through honey, it now screeched to a complete halt. “… He… He did not just seriously ask that, right?” The students face flushed in an even brighter red, but now one of anger and embarrassment. Just asking her out, out of the blue like that? The fucking nerve! Kyroka didn’t really know what to do with this situation und SHE WAS STILL LYING ON TOP OF HIM! So, she did the only thing that seemed logical: jamming her jacks straight into the boys ears and projecting her already hectic heartbeat directly into his head.
“Jauzasasapffff…!” As to be expected the other student fell back, momentarily dazed from the violent vibrations that just coursed through his skull. Kyroka wasn’t particularly proud of herself, but still decided to flee fast as possible, scrambling off his annoyingly nice body and staggering backwards. Why had this shaken her so much? Well, typically no guy she had just literally tackled into the floor just immediately asked her out! Not that she had performed that particular manoeuvre before, but the point still stands!
The blonde cause of her distress slowly groaned, back to consciousness. Kyroka REALLY didn’t know what to do at this point, maybe just say something, anything!
“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, BACK THE FUCK OFF!!!” No, not that! What was that, why are we screaming at him, gahhhhhhhh! And that stupid boy was just looking at her, still dazed but now just as confused. Not upset notably, just confused.
“dumbass.” She just muttered, with more frustration that rage behind it, and completely overwhelmed by the current situation, decided to storm off, back to the starting area. She really needed to find some bots to blow off some steam.
“Ummm… The name is Kaminari Denki by the way.” A moment of silence. “Soooo, was that a no?”
Mashirao Ojiro
Still at the UA entrance exam
“Head over this way, there is no more threats in this direction!” Ojiro sent another 1-pointer flying with a low kick, followed by a sweep with his tail, then continued ushering the three scared students down the street. This test clearly favoured those with quirks applicable to combat, or at least some fundamentals in hand-to-hand combat. And he was planning to take advantage of this fact and make sure those less fortunate would escape the experience unscathed!
“Thank you!”, shouted one of the girls before turning to her friend. “Come on, there is still five minutes to go! Maybe we can work together to take at least one or two of these bots down!”
Ojiro frowned slightly, but he wouldn’t stop them. They had been cornered by several of two- and one-pointers, and it appeared none of their quirks were effective in taking down these robots. Fortunately for them, he had shown up just in time. Though he could have sworn two of those exam robots had collapsed before he made impact…
Lost in thought he wandered out into an open crossing. These exam arenas were really well designed. Scattered remains of bots lay at the sides of the street, most other students having long passed into other areas of the arena. He should probably follow if he wanted to score a few more points before time ran out…
BLAMM!
Only a quick leap forward, made possible by a childhood in martial arts training, saved Ojiro, as the ground exploded beneath the heteromorth. Where had that come…
BLAMM! BLAMM! BLAMM!
A new salvo of explosions peppered the ground behind him, forcing the student to find cover behind a turned, over car. He carefully glanced past it, to spot one of the 3-pointers, the so called ‘hard villains’ about 50 meters down the street. Missile tubes still smoking. With no cover between them. This situation was… less than ideal.
BLAMM! BLAMM! BLAMM! - "LAYING DOWN SUPPRESSIVE FIRE!"
Several explosions shook the car, but apparently the explosives weren’t particularly powerful, as the didn’t seem to be capable of doing much more than shattering glass and putting dents into the hull. But they would still surely put him out of commission if he was hit directly, and he was quite sure he still needed more points for such a prestigious school as UA. But with no way of closing the distance his future seemed further out of reach than ever.
BLAMM! BLAMM! BLAMM!
Should he just try to go for it and try dodging everything? The shockwaves were enough to throw him off balance though, and in this scenario that would be fatal. At least for his career, Ojiro doubted he would be left to die here. Still trying to come up with a plan, he held his breath to brace for the next salvo of missiles.
…
But they never came.
Nervously the student glanced over the now pretty banged up car which had granted him refuge. The terrifying foe had slumped together, all red sensor lights extinguished. Could these things run out of battery? Or maybe…
“Anybody there?” Ojiro called. He had a gut feeling someone else was involved here. “Whoever you might be, thank you for your help!”
Silence.
The boy sighed, wanting to turn away when no one approached, when suddenly an exited girl’s voice called out from in front of him. Where there was only an empty street. What.
“You are very welcome! These bots are harder to sneak up on than you might think, I think they can also hear us. Anyways, I have kinda been following you around and sneaking up on robots that were busy with you, turns out they have a very handy off switch on the back of their heads!”
Overwhelmed by the flood of words, he just nodded as he looked around.
“Oh, no problem! Ummm, where exactly are you though?”
“Oh, I get that a lot!” The girl giggled at her own joke. “As you can see, or rather, not see…” - Ojiro could practically hear the smile that accompanied those last few words, “my quirk is invisibility! To obvious effect. I assume your quirk has something to do with that super fluffy tail of yours?”
Ojiro self consciously coiled said appendage around his waist before he replied. “That is a very nice quirk you’ve got there! Mine is just a pretty simple mutation type…”
“Nonsense, I’ve seen you deal with those robots earlier! You went all swish, kapow, swipe, boom! It was really impressive to watch actually!”
“That’s nice of you to say... May I ask what your name is?”
“No problem! My name is Hagakure Toru, nice to meet you!”
Ojiro took a polite bow in the direction he assumed the invisible girl to be in. “Happy to make your acquaintance miss Hagakure! My name is Mashirao Ojiro, and thank you again for your help earlier.”
An ethereal giggle sounded from his right, apparently, she had moved without him realising. “Oh wow, so formal! Nice to meet you, Ojiro! I’d love to sit around and chat, but I should really try to get at least a few more points before the time runs out, so see you at UA, alright?”
A warmth seeped into Ojiros body. This girl who had just meet him had such confidence he’d pass the exam? So much more confidence than he had left his home with. He’d have to make sure to take full advantage of the fact that this exam favoured combat focused quirks.
“Yeah. See you then.”
