In the depths of the Botanical Garden of Night Raven College, a hidden corner was occupied by a fungal troop of many kinds of mushrooms. Varying from Lion´s mane to Russula. And the one attending to these beautiful creatures was none other than the infamous well respected Vice Housewarden of Octavinelle, he spent almost daily tending to all of the needs of his little friends and even if he couldn’t make the time, he would make the time in a way or ask kindly of someone generous enough to take care of them in his place. So grew his beloved mushrooms, when he had the chance, he would research and experiment with them.
Today once again, like usual, he sat in his own quiet corner, chatting away with fungi, or perhaps himself.
“Mushrooms share a common ancestor with animals, making them closer to being an animal rather than a plant. The more I learn, the more fascinating you guys become. Is there any limit to your brilliance?” Jade muttered with a joyous tone. “It seems we have more in common than I thought. Maybe we´re not so different after all.” In that corner, talking with the fungus, it almost had a quiet feel to it, otherworldly if you will. If he was the only one around. Just him. Only him. Forever.
“My, I hope I’m not boring you guys with my blabbering. Sometimes I too wish more people appreciated you all.” A hint of hopelessness was heard with that sentence, intentional or not. Now the real reason jade was here today was to create a new terrarium, on one of his last mountain explorations he had come to a fresh found, which he is currently putting the small plant inside, alongside the mountain soil and a spray of water to keep it fresh for the time being. Perhaps Azul would comply with the idea to display this one in Mostro Lounge. Truly it´d be an appealing addition.
“I wonder what result I will find this time. I can’t wait.” Jade proceeded to start with his work. Carefully and surely the terrarium came together in a splendid décor.
“Well, I better get this one back to the dorm, I can hardly wait. What manner of surprises will you show me, Hehe.”
Walking through the path of the garden, the merman took a moment to observe his surroundings, taking note of any particular changes. Although it seemed almost the same, no changes or different plants he hadn’t seen before. He chose to continue walking; his schedule wasn’t exactly empty either. He too was a busy man after all, no matter how often Azul liked to comment on his choice of hobbies.
“Ah, Monsieur Prémédité, what a lovely surprise meeting you here, were you perhaps attending to your plant buddies?”
In a sudden turn Jade was faced with Rook who once again had sneaked up on him. He sure was quiet, if Jade didn’t know any better, he would have assumed he had been alone this entire time.
“Why hello, Rook, what a pleasant surprise meeting you here, to answer your question, yes actually I was and now I am done with the task, therefore ready to leave.”
“Ah, yes, now that I look closer, I see the terrarium you are holding. Tres bien! It is truly a wonderful thing, spending quality time with loved ones!”
“Loved ones? That´s a peculiar way to put it, it´d say, it´s more like an enjoyable hobby and nothing more.”
“Is that so? Excusez-moi for assuming, I merely stated what I observed. One can´t help but think it is more than a simple hobby, perhaps a beautiful obsession. Though that is just what I think.”
So, he is still observing, Jade thought maybe he decided to lay off him after the PE incident, it´s his own mistake for underestimating Rook´s stubbornness. He sure was a diligent man when he wanted to be, though that is still no excuse.
“I see, well if I may be bold enough to ask, what are you occupying yourself with here?”
“It´s only fair I share my reason too, you see, the purpose of my visit today is, that the new buds of the science club haven’t been feeling fairly, so I decided to personally attend to them with a sweet and nurturing melody!”
Right the nut job thinks talking to the plants will make them feel better. (Hypocritical much, jade?) Genius, really.
“I think that is a wonderful idea, Rook, it is great to see a fellow nature lover, I do wish for your buds to get better.”
“Merci! I too wish for your fungi to stay as lively as they are now! “
“Hehe, your wishes are dearly appreciated, pray tell, you don’t happen to be interested in mushrooms, right?”
“Indeed, you see I am interested in everything, especially nature, the most wild and beautiful form of life in our world, a complex and fascinating ecosystem of which is still has so much to discover. In every corner of it is life, and mushrooms happen to be another captivating part of it.”
“I couldn’t have said it better myself, Rook, it is so refreshing knowing someone does care! The wilderness has so much to offer, yet many close their eyes to such a blessing. It is truly a shame”
“Qui, I can understand why you would think that- “
Soon the green house was filled with the sound of laughter and chatter. One would argue that it was less sound and more like noise pollution for those trying to have an afternoon nap, and another would argue that this was utterly cringe.
“Ugh, weirdos, why´s Jade hanging around that creep anyway?”
Poor Floyd happened to walk in on the conversation while running an errand for Azul, unwillingly mind you. He came here to grab Jade and get out to get back to his own things and now he´s trying to get away without being noticed.
“Screw you, Azul, you can get him yourself, I ain´t gonna sacrifice myself for a stupid chore.”
He quickly made a beeline for the exist, this was far too cringe for him, and he sure as hell wasn’t in the mood to deal with his brother’s nonsense today.
