It was a stunning day at Camp Half-Blood, the sun slowly fading away as we ate dinner in the Dining Pavilion and made offerings to the Greek Gods. It had been six months since the Giant War and for once in a long time, everything was calm. Unfortunately, demigods were notorious for not having calm lives, an idea which was reinforced when Chiron, the caring centaur, raised his voice.
Chiron said "Hello fellow Campers! I am here to make an important announcement, so please listen carefully. All cabin counsellors are to meet in the Big House tomorrow at 10 AM. I expect to see you all there. That’s all, enjoy your meal.”
We then went back to talking between each other about what Chiron could be talking about.
Annabeth then asked, "What do you think that was about?"
“You really think Seaweed Brain would know?" I replied.
We continued to talk between each other until I started to feel my eyes gradually close and my back lose its firm, solid posture.
"I'm gonna go to bed. See you guys tomorrow." I said.
Annabeth then squeezed my hand, "Make sure not to oversleep, Seaweed Brain, I don’t wanna have to bring out an ice bucket to wake you up in time for the meeting."
I smiled back and then made my way to the Poseidon Cabin where I collapsed on my bed and dozed off.
That night, I had nightmares of Tartarus and remembered our friends Bob the Titan and Damasen the Giant who had both died, sacrificing themselves for us. The sight replayed in my mind forever in an infinite loop, haunting me, causing me to wake up with a sudden movement, my torso and head shooting straight up. Sweat coated my face and the t-shirt I was sleeping in was soaked with sweat.
I grabbed my orange camp half-blood t-shirt, shoved a pair of blue jeans and threw on some shoes. It was early in the morning and the moment I stepped out of the cabin I was greeted with the warm temperature of Camp Half-Blood. I had some time before breakfast so I decided to stop by the beach. I entered the water, submerged myself underwater, swimming around like I owned the place, which I kind of did. I stayed on the sea floor for a few minutes, reflecting on my dream. I remembered Damasen and Bob and how they had sacrificed themselves, so we could live. It was always the good ones who died, except for Octavian, that snivelling raccoon. I sighed.
I figured it was time to head to breakfast so I shifted the water to my will and rocketed upwards, landing on the beach with two feet on the smooth, hot sand. I then head to the Dining Pavilion for breakfast, to catch sight of a few demigods I didn't know and Piper, Jason and Leo sitting at a table.
I sat down and greeted them. "How are you guys holding up?" I asked.
"Piper and I are fine but Lightning boy over here is going insane cause he can’t help thinking about what Chiron’s gonna say in the meeting this morning." Leo said.
"As long as it isn't another quest, I'm fine with whatever Chiron has to say." Piper stated.
Jason then said "Pipes, you do realise there's a 99% chance Chiron called us to a meeting because we're gonna get sent on another quest right?"
"Yeah, I know but we need to stay positive right?" She said forcing a smile in an attempt to cheer Jason up.
“I just..I wish we could relax for once, you know? Us demigods have to complete quest after quest after quest and I wish we could just be left alone for once. Live a normal life." Jason said, sighing.
"You know it's impossible for us to have normal lives Jason. If anything, just try and enjoy what you have right now." Piper said before pecking him on the cheek.
When we were done talking, we made our way to the Big House and sat by the Ping-Pong table in the rec room. Much to my surprise, Annabeth was nowhere to be found. Connor and Travis Stoll were whispering to each other, occasionally glimpsing at Clarisse. Probably planning their next prank I thought to myself. I was especially shocked when Annabeth entered the room, a few minutes late to the meeting. She muttered the words 'Sorry' and sat down next to me.
"Since when is my Wise Girl ever late?" I asked.
"Just two campers arguing so I had to intervene and break them up, they just had to ruin my streak." She said.
I laughed and replied, "You have an on time streak?" leading to her smiling and pecking me on the lips.
Chiron then spoke up and the room fell silent. He then said "I thank you all for gathering here today. Unfortunately, I am here to announce that some of you will be sent on a quest." Jason who had been expecting this looked frustrated and proceeded to make a face. "I have much regret to say that the giants have returned."
Gasps and whispering filled the room and Chiron had to cough loudly to bring everyone back to attention. Why did the giants have to be back? "This time the giants are stronger than before, having learnt a secret form of magic. Let me explain. There is a school in the UK called 'Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry' where wizards and witches learn to harness their powers and well, use magic. Now we don't know how the giants learnt this secret form of magic but we do know that they have travelled 13 years in the past to 1998 to bring back a great evil of the wizard kind who goes by the name of Lord Voldemort. If they succeed in their task, it could drastically change the future and whether or not we win the Giant War from last year. It would also lead to the downfall of the Wizarding World. So I have decided that the quest members will be the Seven from the Great Prophecy, Nico and Reyna. These quest members will be sent back in time, as 17 year olds to befriend the students of Hogwarts and more specifically, Harry Potter, the boy who previously defeated Lord Voldemort. Harry Potter and his friends will all be one year older than you, repeating their 7th year at Hogwarts because of the war with Voldemort not allowing them to complete their 7th Year. Now-"
He was interrupted by Nico who said, "I'm not going on this quest unless Will can come too!"
Chiron looked uncomfortable and thought to himself for a few seconds. I felt bad for Chiron. He had gone through all of this planning and now Nico wanted to change Chiron's plans just like that. Nico's argument was understandable however as Will was the closest person to him at Camp.
"I suppose we can add one more person to this quest." Chiron said after much thought. I then thought about all the information Chiron had just told us. The Wizarding World, the giants being back with a secret form of magic and how if they failed the quest the future could be ruined. It was all too much.
I told Annabeth, "This is too much information for it to all fit in my brain."
She responded and said "Well, you can't really fit lots of information in that brain, most of it’s filled with kelp." We both laughed and pecked each other on the lips.
Lots of pecking today.
"Now before everybody goes rogue, I just wanted to say that on your mission several places including Hogwarts will have a magical barrier, preventing you from using your godly powers. You can still use your weapons of course, but your godly powers will not function properly."
"I just have one question. Was the magic of these wizards given to them by Hecate?" Piper asked, curious and intrigued.
"No, these wizards are sort of-, it's hard to explain but like a different species in a way and are out of Hecate's range of control, out of the God's control to be frank. That's why this mission is so dangerous. We know almost nothing of the wizards." Chiron responded. "Talking about Hecate, she should be arriving any minute now-“
That's when a bright flash of light appeared and a tall goddess stood above us all, wearing a beautiful silk dress and her hair flowing down her back and possessing quite literally, magical eyes. Gasps flooded the room and Hecate spoke. Hazel, Frank and Reyna had also appeared in the room, standing next to her, as surprised as we were. They had probably been teleported here from Camp Jupiter.
"It's a pleasure to see you all." The goddess said. "I'm sure Chiron has informed you all about everything there is to know. The quest members will be sent as 17 year olds 13 years in the past as American exchange students which are spending their 7th year of Wizarding School at Hogwarts."
Chiron then interrupted her and said "Sorry for interrupting Lady Hecate, but I ought to let you know that Will Solace will also be joining the heroes on this quest."
Hecate nodded in approval and Will beamed with happiness, sitting next to Nico, clutching his hand tightly.
"Now when we go back in time you will have magical powers gifted to you by me which I have designed to make look and be as similar as possible to wizard magic. You will also have to get all the necessary equipment for your year at Hogwarts. I will act as your guide until you reach the school so don't worry, you won't be alone. Oh and finally! Keep your real identities a secret until we give you permission to reveal them. Not a single wizard knows about demigods except for the Headmistress of Hogwarts so make sure to be careful about revealing your true nature. Now, are we all ready to leave?"
Jason exclaimed and said "Now!? Can’t I say goodbye tk Camp or something?"
"Yes now!" Hecate said. "Now hold on to my arms so we can travel back in time."
With much hesitation, we put our hands on her arms and like I was being sucked into a vacuum, we disappeared, leaving the rec room in silence.
