Work Text:
The pink and white room looked like a dream, lit by the oranges of the fast-fading summer sunset, and the off-white dresser covered in bows and knicknacks in front of V only added to the effect. She pulled on a yellow and pink shirt, tossing the one she had worn to Lizzy’s house on the floor.
“I thought I told you to stop sneaking in through the window. You could’ve texted me and I’d’ve let you in. You scared the shit out of me.” Lizzy sat on the edge of her canopy bed, looking mildly annoyed but not seriously angry. The blush on her cheeks looked so pretty, maybe she would look like that if V kissed he-
“Oh, really? I couldn’t tell from you dumping your lemonade all over me.” V batted back sarcastically, but Lizzy picked up on the playful intentions. Robo-gods, they were the perfect pair- V’s brain needed to shut up.
Instead of addressing the statement, Lizzy continued, “My dad is probably sleeping anyway-“
“But he would have both our heads if he wasn’t.” V retorted, slightly more serious now.
Lizzy sighed, although they both knew that was just theatrics on her part, “Yeah, I guess so. Anyway, did you want to do something with me?”
V strolled over and plopped down next to the drone. From this new angle, she noticed that the light caught Lizzy’s hair and made it look like she had a halo- hush brain. The adults are speaking.
“Could you maybe do my eyeliner?”
“You want me. To do your eyeliner.” Lizzy looked like she was barely holding in laughter.
“Uhm… yea?” Oh god oh god oh god nononono this wasn’t how this was meant to go-
“Oh- Sorry, sorry, you just haven’t really shown an interest in that before. I didn’t mean to…” Lizzy looked supremely guilty, but after a moment she snapped out of it, “Anyway, lemme just grab my stuff!”
Lizzy stood up quickly – causing her dress to ripple as it chased her – and started to rifle through her desk drawers. “Get comfortable over there, you’ll have to hold still for a bit.”
V shifted further from the edge of the bed until her back was against the wall, the curtains creating a sort of fort effect that made her feel safer. In fact, Lizzy made her feel safer. She hoped the feeling was mutual.
“Found it.” Lizzy moved onto the bed, kneeling in front of V’s legs. She swiftly presented a white stylus. “I’m just going to draw on your visor with this! If it’s ok, I can do, like, a full face of makeup to balance things out?”
“Oh! Yeah, ok, I don’t really know a lot about this, you can just do whatever.” V responded, internally cringing at how awkward the words came out.
“Can I start?”
“Yeah.” V responded. There were so many more words V wanted to say to that angel, but the best she could do was ‘yeah’. Pitiful. Lizzy smiled, moving her free hand to hold Vs head steady. Her entrancing eyes seemed to see only V, and the blush that dusted Lizzy’s visor made her look angelic. But she was probably just focused on the makeup. And blushing from the heat. Yup.
And yet, with the stylus tapping softly against her visor, V felt the universe shrink down to just the two of them.

At some point, Lizzy shifted from kneeling in front of V to nearly sitting on the drone, firmly gripping her arm to keep her hand steady for the eyeliner. They’re so close, all V would have to do is lean forward a little bit and kis- no! Why does she even feel like this? She liked N, but Lizzy’s a girl, and you can’t like both genders! That’s just not a thing! What was happening to her?! Besides, Lizzy probably didn’t even like her back, so if her stupid GPU would just shut the fuck up, she could go about her sleepover in peace.
Lizzy froze, panic flashing across her visor. V snapped back into reality and began to ask what was wrong, but the other pressed her hand to her lips before any sound came out.
The faint sounds of footsteps echoed in the hallway, growing louder with every passing second.
Lizzy's father. Shit.
Neither of the girls dared to move as the hallway fell silent.
Lizzy looked so pretty, even when she was panicking- DID HER GPU HAVE A VIRUS?! WHAT WAS HAPPENING?!!
After what felt like an eternity, the footsteps retreated and a door slammed, but both girls remained in the awkward silence.
V, noticing how the hand slammed over her mouth still clutched the stylus, nipped at the offending thumb.
“Hey!” Lizzy yelped and yanked her hand back, but she was giggling as she playfully shoved V’s head to the side. This prompted giggling from the other drone as she bounced back and dived on top of Lizzy, who shoved her head again in return, and soon enough the two were laying in a pile of blankets, laughing their lungs out. Lizzy made her feel so… much.
Robo-lord, she was through. A fearsome murderer reduced to a victim of unrequited love, how pitiful. She was so helpless and pathetic as soon as that drone — an inaccurate description of her other half, none of them were mindless servants to the humans anymore — spoke even a word to her.
“Oh, wait, I didn’t finish your eyeliner! C’mere, it’ll be just a second.” Her angel- no, Lizzy grabbed the stylus once more and turned to V - who was now sitting up - to color in the outline of the wing. “Aaaand… perfect!” Lizzy leaned back to look at her work. The blush on both of their visors deepened as the worker drone came to a realization.
“Do you want to kiss me?”
“What?” Oh robo-gods, what does she answer? Yes? No? Why is Lizzy even asking??? Robo-gods, she’s officially dying, fuck fuck fuck fuck fu-
“You keep looking at me like you want to kiss me, so I figured I’d ask.” Lizzy said casually, as if she wasn’t internally panicking as well.
“Do you want me to kiss you?”
“I offered, didn’t I?” What a lovely thought. Lizzy liked her back.
Suddenly, their lips were crashing together, tongues and teeth colliding as the feelings they held back flowed out to create beautiful destruction. Electricity flowed through Vs body, and she relished the warm, tingling sensation.
When they finally broke apart to breathe, Lizzy tugged V to their former position of laying the bed. As the panting subsided, the two were again left in silence, but a comfortable one this time.

When Lizzy woke up, there was a note from V apologizing and asking to talk at school. As Lizzy stared at herself in the mirror, she thought that maybe, just maybe, whatever they were, it was alright for now.
