Chapter Text
In hindsight, Shane should've seen this coming. He should've known that after coming home from a gruelling PT session and having a shower, his husband could only go so long before he needed entertainment, thus sending his plans for a calm and relaxing evening swirling down the drain with the rest of his bathwater.
"Shane! Shanya!" Ilya whined as Shane came downstairs. After kissing his husband hello even though they'd only been apart for an hour, Ilya had reluctantly let Shane go upstairs to shower alone. At least he came back to a hot plate of dinner waiting for him on the coffee table.
"What is it, Ilya?" Shane asked as he plopped down on the sofa next to him, the TV on but not playing anything.
"You must watch new show with me. WAGs reccommend," he answered as Shane cuddled into his side.
Shane sighed as he buried himself into Ilya's chest, not wanting to eat just yet as his eyes drifted shut. His husband always smelt so good. It was calming as he asked, "It's not another ridiculous reality show, is it? I don't know how you and the WAGs watch that desperate housewife stuff."
"Slander! Selena will not like it if I tell her you slander her housewives," Ilya said and Shane smiled into his chest. His husband was silly, but the best person he knew. Ilya's hand was rubbing his arm as he explained, "Is much better than housewives anyway. Is about two brothers who must drive all over America and fight monsters and demons while trying to find their father who is missing."
Shane's eyes were still closed as his brow furrowed. "That somehow sounds worse than a reality show, Ilya."
"No. No!" Ilya countered instantly. "Is not. You must watch. At least first episode with me. I have good feeling that you will like older brother. His name is Dean. He is best according to WAGs. Other brother is too boring. Only reads boring lore books."
Shane was still so confused as he opened his eyes and looked up at Ilya. "Why is a law student fighting demons and monsters?"
"No, no, Moya lyubov, is lore books, not law books. Is about legends and myths and old things like Scott Hunter and such. But I suppose you are not entirely wrong. He was preparing for law school in video WAGs showed me."
Shane couldn't help but roll his eyes at his husband's chirp of Scott. Ilya would sooner give up hockey before he admitted that he and Scott were actually really good friends. He couldn't help but love his husband a bit more for his strange love language of insulting people.
"And Dean drives a very nice car, Shane!" Ilya continued.
He raised a brow. "Nice by your standards, or mine?"
"He does not drive boring Canadian Jeep if that is what you are asking," Ilya returned.
"It's a normal car, Ilya."
Ilya waved him off. "Is not as cool as my cars, but I suppose is cool for such an old car. Is like Scott Hunter, no?"
Shane sighed. "Are you going to keep chirping Scott, who isn't even here to defend himself, or put on your show for us to watch?"
Ilya immediately reached for the remote, causing Shane to fall from where he'd been lying on his chest. "Scott Hunter? I do not know a Scott Hunter. I only know Winchester brothers, Dean and boring Sam, who is exactly like my boring Shayna."
He shook his head at his husband's ridiculousness as he reached for his dinner plate. "Shut up and play the show, you idiot."
"Twitter says something about idjits," Ilya said uncertainly as the first episode began to play.
"I don't know why you read the garbage on Twitter," Shane replied as he took a bite of his salmon. For some reason, it always tasted better when Ilya made it. He decided it was safer for his own mental health to not ask why.
"Shhh. Is starting," Ilya hushed, and once again, Shane's eyes rolled as he chewed and watched a woman in a white nightdress walk into her son's nursery.
"What is this show even called?"
"Supernatural."
********************************
"So," Ilya said with an eager grin that wasn't at all subtle. "What did you think? Is good, yes? You want to know what happens next, yes?"
Shane's head was pillowed on Ilya's shoulder where it had been for the last thirty minutes after he'd finished eating his dinner. "It was better than the housewives, I'll give you that."
"That is Shayna speak for you loved it," he cheered, squeezing Shane to him a little tighter.
"I never said that, nor will I be saying it."
"So, you don't want me to play next episode?" Ilya asked with a raised brow.
"I never said that either."
"You love it!"
"Shut up and press the damn button."
Ilya had a grin on his face that could rival a Cheshire Cat as he hit play on the next episode. "What was your favourite part? It was boring research, wasn't it?"
"I just think it was interesting how they explore all those old legends and stuff! Like there's probably so many cool stories and creatures they'll end up fighting."
He could feel Ilya's smile as he pressed a kiss to the top of his head. "Yes, it is, Moya lyubov." The recap of the previous episode plays as Ilya asks, "So what do you think has happened to Papa Winchester?"
"Is it not obvious that he's tangled up in whatever creature killed their mother?"
"But that is stupid because why would he keep that from his sons? If creature is so powerful that he hasn't found it in twenty years, he will need all the help he can get," Ilya reasoned.
"Maybe he wants to protect them?"
"Stupid way of showing it. Worrying them and making them drive all over country to find him. If I am trying to protect you, I tell you," Ilya said.
"And if I want to protect you?" Shane asked with a grin as he looked up at Ilya.
Ilya brushed a thumb across Shane's cheekbone, right over the freckles he adored so much. "We will protect each other, yes?"
"Yeah, we will," Shane agreed before Ilya leaned in to kiss him.
