Summary:

Buck, Eddie, and Ravi start a prank war at work

Notes:

Hi!!!

It's day 2 of Buddie Week 2026 and the prompt for the day was SFW, work shenanigans. The idea itself is credited to my dear friend, Inckr, but I have to give my sister for helping me when I got stuck

This is just cute and a little dumb, but I hope you like it!!

Enjoy!!!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"¡HIJO DE PUTA!"

It's like the entire firehouse freezes for a moment.

And then as one every person turns to look at Eddie. Or the baby powder covered Eddie-shaped monstrosity that resembles Eddie.

It's the end of a 48-hour shift, as in both A- and B-shift are here. They all face the locker room, which was miraculously empty aside from Eddie.

Once the firehouse unfreezes, every single head turns to where Buck and Ravi are standing in their civies. Now, you might think that the assumption is at least a little unfair, but...

"Maybe it was a bit much," Ravi says, but his mouth is twitching like he's trying to hold back a smile. And Buck really can't blame him for that, because he's biting hard on his lower lip trying not to laugh. "Run?"

"Run," Buck agrees, slightly wheezy with laughter.

Buck doesn't manage to start his car before there's a very angry-looking Eddie standing on the other side of the glass. They'd driven together, so really, there was no way for Buck to get out of there.

So, Buck just has to watch Ravi drive off and then he waits until Eddie has gotten the worst of the baby powder off and changed into clean clothes. There's still streaks of it in his hair and smudges of it along his jaw, but Buck doesn't dare open his mouth.

They're silent for the first ten minutes of the drive home - Buck checked the time - before Eddie says something, "You know I'm going to get you back for this, right?"

"I'm looking forward to it."

Three weeks later

"Enough," Bobby almost sounds pleading, "the three of you need to stop this. It was funny for a while, but it is getting out of hand. I allowed you to have your prank war, because you seemed to have fun and it wasn't interrupting work."

Buck glances between himself and Ravi, both of whom are covered in glitter. They've been doing minor - at least if you ask the three of them - pranks. Fun stuff that makes everyone laugh, leaving things in each other's lockers, putting salt instead of sugar in coffee, that kind of stuff.

Buck should have known that Eddie was working on something that would be a retaliation for the baby powder bomb. And he did. Same concept, just far more evil, not that Buck actually believes that, he loved it, because it was fucking genius.

"It's not funny anymore, and it is interrupting work," despite the reprimanding tone and expression, Buck recognizes the humorous glint in his captain's eyes. "So, it ends today. Because I can already hear the company that cleans our uniforms screaming into the phone for how difficult it is going to be to get rid of the glitter."

"Yes, sir, we'll stop," Eddie says with that tone that screams military. Buck has a love-hate relationship with that tone.

Ravi joins in, coughing a little first which sprays more than a few pieces of glitter on the desk, "We're done, Cap," another cough, "Promise."

After a few seconds of silence they all turn to Buck, who starts to put on his most charming smile, but then he catches Bobby's eyes and immediately pivots, "You got it, Cap."

"Now, Buck, Ravi, I want you two to get checked out by Hen and Chim," Bobby says in a very clear I'm not messing around with this tone.

Getting checked out by Hen and Chimney turns out to be a long process, because they keep having to pause what they're doing to stop laughing. The only upside is that Eddie seems to feel incredibly bad, which means Buck can ask for pretty much anything when they make it home.

Late that night, after Eddie has passed out against Buck's side, Buck gets a text.

Ravioli: So we're not done, right?

Fuck no, just not at work :Buck

Buck and Eddie had already talked about it, and might have come to a conclusion that it's only fair if it's all against all, not that they're going to tell Ravi that. Which means that he's completely unaware when Eddie 'distracts' him by planning their first prank against Buck, as said man nips Ravi's phone and changes the ringtone for Ravi's alarm.

Since they're at Bobby and Athena's for lunch with the rest of the team, it's not technically work, which means that they won't get in trouble for it. So, every five minutes his phone goes off with the sound of "I like big butts and I cannot lie".

Now, Buck might not be the best with technology, but he's good enough that Ravi doesn't manage to stop it until it's gone off seven times.

The look on Ravi's face promises revenge.

The revenge comes in the cutest form, if you ask Buck. Eddie is less than happy.

They come home from an extra shift only to find that their home has been overtaken. Eddie opens the front door to the very persistent sound of what looks like a minimum of thirty kittens. For the next hour or so as Buck and Eddie call shelters in their area Buck listens to Eddie grumble under his breath that he doesn't like cats and doesn't want a single one in the house.

And sure, Buck thinks thirty might be a bit much, but they're just so cute and cuddly. Several of them keep walking in eights around his legs, rubbing their heads against his ankles. They were just so cute that Buck was about to turn his head to face Eddie from where he's sitting on the floor and beg him to let Buck keep at least a couple, but some very loud purring sounds before he can.

What Buck finds when he turns is Eddie with a kitten in the crook of his neck that is clearly passed out, and then another kitten curled up on his pec that is purring like it has transcended into paradise. To be honest, Eddie also looks like he is living his best life, he's running his index finger in small circles on the purring kitten's head. Buck just might die from how adorable the image is.

Buck takes a picture and sends it in the group chat. All he writes is "I think your revenge prank failed, Rav".

It ends up being the last prank - that time around - because when Buck and Eddie come to work next shift Buck spends the majority of their down time showing everyone pictures of their two new kittens. Kittens that Eddie insists that he only said yes to getting, because he doesn't know how to say no to Buck, but every picture where he's holding one or both of them there is the softest smile on his face.
