Chapter Text
It was the 10th of July. One day before Norway had to face England at the world cup. Erling still couldn’t even believe that Norway beat Brazil. They actually were in the quarter final. And this next game would be amazing, he was sure of that.
No matter how it ended, he was determined to have a great time. The chances were pretty high that England would beat Norway, so he might as well just have fun.
I mean, how could he not? He was gonna play against his dearest Jude again. Okay, Jude wasn’t his, but he was definitely dear to him. Erling had texted him a couple times during this Cup so far, to congratulate him and check how he was doing occasionally. Their conversations were brief mostly, but still heartfelt. Erling just wasn’t a very good texter.
Seeing him in real life again would be great though. He hoped he could catch the brunette after the game to talk. It had been a while since they got a chance to do that and Erling missed the way they bantered and the way they could laugh about the most ridiculous things.
The Norwegian team got the instructions to get a good night of rest, which was for sure the smartest thing to do, but Erling didn’t really feel like sleeping already. He decided to put on some music.

He let the playlist run. Some upbeat song with a female voice filled the room. Erling liked the song. He was going to add it to his favorites later.
As he listened to the melody coming from his portable speaker, an idea struck him. He was going to ask Jude now if he could hang out. Only then he realized that if Jude won, he probably wouldn’t have time to talk to him. He would be busy celebrating, but maybe later that night when the big celebration was over? Erling desperately hoped so.
hey vicky are you around after the game?
Think we got some catching up to do. Lmk and good luck tomorrow xx
Vicky was a nickname he loved to use, ever since he found out Victor was Jude’s second name. The text was sent.
He was probably already sleeping anyway, he took his recovery very seriously. “He’ll just see it tomorrow morning”, Erling thought to himself.

In about twenty four hours the quarter final would take place, which either meant going home, or playing the half final. It also meant that Jude had to play against Erling Haaland. And that was… nervewrecking to say the least.
Jude had convinced himself that the slightly sick feeling in his stomach, (that perhaps some would call butterflies) was just there because Erling was such a good player and friend of his. Everyone would be nervous, right? And Jude definitely didn’t hope for a hug during the game.
No. That was just his mind playing tricks on him because he was so tired. Training had been very exhausting. He just needed to get to sleep and by tomorrow these weird feelings would go away. The fact that this wasn’t the first time Jude felt like this when he was about to play with or against Erling…, well he chose to ignore that.
He had just plucked in his charger so his phone would charge overnight, when a notification popped up. And for some stupid reason, his heart skipped a beat when he saw who it came from.
You wanna see me?
That was his response. It probably sounded like he was being sarcastic, but Jude was actually surprised that Erling wanted to see him.
I know it’s surprising that anyone would, but I do
Jude actually laughed at the text. He knew that the Norwegian was joking but he loved the tease.
yeah right
Where should we meet?
Honestly in one of our hotel would be the best since the streets are gonna be crazy crowded and people would recognize us everywhere.
Not exactly romantic, i know (◞‸◟ㆀ)
don't know if I can forgive you for that but fine.
come to my room tomorrow night.
(⸝⸝•ᴗ•⸝⸝)੭⁾
And once again Jude cursed himself for being even more excited for tomorrow than he was already. Actually that wasn’t really the issue, the issue was that the reason for his excitement was a particularly tall, blonde and funny viking. He really needed to sleep, that would fix this glitch in his brain.
He was already laying down when he suddenly realized he hadn’t texted his girlfriend at all today. It wasn’t really going well in terms of their realationship, so he decided to quickly text her. Only then he saw that she had texted him first.
hey there
hope you had a great day and good luck tomorrow
You probably already know why, but I think we should talk.
And he indeed did know why. Honestly they were pretty much broken up for the last couple of weeks, this would just make it official. He didn’t feel any resentment towards her, they would most likely just stay friends after so he decided to call her right now.
After a rather harmonic conversation, considering that it was a breakup, Jude could finally get his very much needed rest.
His sleep was disturbed by images of him doing things with a blond Norwegian, that he would rather not ever repeat out loud. It was safe to say that they weren’t exactly “best-mates-activities”. The next morning would definitely include him freaking out about the thoughts that his brain decided to put in his head during his time of resting.
He woke up in the middle of the night, and when he realised what he was dreaming about his body broke out in cold sweat, which technically could be blamed on the temperature since the air in his room was hot, but deep down he knew that that wasn’t the reason behind it at all.
He decided to take a shower and after that he finally drifted off into a peaceful, dreamless sleep.
