Work Text:
Applejack was sweating in the summer heat. She was hauling a cart filled to the brim with apples, and couldn't wait to finally get them to the pony who needed them for their stall so she could finally take a break and a glass of water.
She wasn't far from her destination, about ten minutes away. She made a mental note to herself to buy a new hat, as her old one was getting old and didn't do its job very well anymore.
"My goodness, that hat is absolutely hideous! That can't be keeping the sun out of your eyes, it's practically falling apart!"
Applejack turned around to look at the mare who said that. It was a unicorn with a clean white coat, who's purple mane and tail were perfectly styled.
"Well, I was actually thinking about getting a new one. You look like you know quite a bit about clothing, could you help a mare out and let me know where I might be able find a good one?" Applejack asked.
That made Rarity's face light up with what could only be compared to the face a child makes upon waking up on Christmas morning.
"Oh, funny you should say, I've just designed a hat that is made to keep the sun off your face at all angles." Rarity replied, pulling said hat out.
It was a fairly plain looking hat, a humble ten-gallon hat with nothing that would make it stand out. Rarity placed it atop Apllejack's head. It fit perfectly, as if it had been modelled specifically for her head.
"Wow, this fits like a glove," Applejack said, looking for her wallet. "What do I gotta pay for this one?"
"Oh don't worry, you shouldn't have to pay a single bit! I just knew I had to do something when I saw you dragging that cart through town without a proper hat, it feels wrong to have to charge you for this!"
Applejack opened her mouth to thank her, but Rarity spoke up before any words came out.
"Well, I simply must get going, my client needs a dress by tomorrow morning, and I mustn't dawdle!"
And with that, she trotted away, humming a tune to herself.
Applejack simply stared at where the lovely stranger stood a few seconds ago. She hadn't even gotten her name, but she knew that she would see the kind beautiful mare again soon.
