Best of Daughters, Best of Girls

Summary:

Naomasa never thought he'd be a father- foster, adoptive, or biological- but he was so lucky to be one to Hansha and Tooru.

Work Text:

Hansha Hagakure had the best sister in the whole entire world. Tooru gave her all the attention she could ask for. Tooru took her along to meet Midoriya, who made her feel accepted. Tooru was the one who took care of her, fed her, taught her everything she needed to do.

Hansha had the best sister in the whole entire world. Tooru gave the best hugs, which kept her warm even when the cold of winter bit into her skin. Tooru took her along to meet Mustard, who made her feel watched. Tooru was doing everything she needed to do to take care of them both.

Hansha Tsukauchi had the best sister in the whole entire world. Tooru gave up from running away so that they could have a home again. Tooru took her along to meet a detective, who made her feel safe. Tooru was the person she admired most in the world, and she wanted to be just like her when she grew up.

Naomasa Tsukauchi had the best daughters in the whole entire world, even though they were only in his life for a short amount of time.

He missed how the pillows and blankets on the couch disappeared when he woke up the morning after a princess marathon.

He missed how pencils, crayons, markers, and papers were scattered around his apartment- scrawled with doodles of their family or with curled symbols made by a hand unfamiliar with holding a pen instead of a weapon.

He missed how the floorboards would quietly creak under the weight of a troubled teenager desperately trying to avoid attention, how those same floorboards squeaked when a cheerful child ran around with wheezy laughter as he chased an apparition circling around the kitchen island.

When Naomasa looked at his pillowcase one morning, seeing that the tears soaking into it the night before had disappeared with the light of day, he couldn’t help but let out a laugh. If anyone could see him in that moment, they may think that he’s insane. A grown man laughing while clutching a pillow in his arms surely wasn’t right in the head.

None of that mattered to him though, not when he imagined that his daughters had made the tears disappear for him. Not when he imagined their arms trying to wrap around his torso in a hug, his youngest reaching a hand up to wipe tears away while his eldest thanked him for taking them in.

Naomasa Tsukauchi had the best daughters in the whole entire world, and he wished he still had them.
