Kiss Your British Boy Goodnight

Summary:

Floyd likes to bring his Goldfishie over. Sometimes he'll take a nap while he works, or attempt to distract the younger from all his responsibilities.

Riddle gets forced to hang out with Floyd and do his work in Octavinelle. He's tired though and not enjoying all the stuff he has to do. He tries to leave but Floyd won't let him.

aka I learned eel facts and needed to use them somehow and decided Riddle must at least be a little messed up in order to use it.

Title from Stateside + Zara Larsson(feat. Zara Larsson)

Notes:

I was reading "Someday? Someday, by guitahebi" and it mentioned Floyd having bad vision but not actually wearing his glasses because he wanted to win against family genetics which inspired this. I love the idea that both of them need glasses for whatever reason. Jade and Floyd because they're eels and the actual animals have bad vision, as well as can't see in light. I took that and kinda decided eel mer can't see in the light the same way humans can't see in the dark. Riddle needs glasses cus that bitch has been straining his eyes since like birth.

I was originally gonna do I three plus one fic and this was one of the three but I was impatient and wanted to read this now. It was originally meant to be shorter but i can't shut up.

Also Ellipsus broke on me while writing this since I switch tabs a bunch, it wouldn't save what I wrote on the laptop(which was the endqing) so I had to upload it here as a draft and then copy paste back into Ellipsus since it wouldn't also add my downloaded copy of the draft(all i had left was editing). The ao3 gods really did not want me to make this it seems. It fucking saved after I spent like 30 minutes to an hour putting in the tags and stuff so when I finished I could just edit what I already had.

As always. Aspen hopes you enjoy this production(if you can get the reference you get a cookie)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Octavinelle wasn't a very bright dorm. It was never pitch black but compared to the rest of the campus it was easily one of the darkest places at NRC(second only to Diasomnia). The atmosphere was rather relaxing with the dim blues and purples. Being forced to study here wasn't too bad for Riddle, at least when he actually had his contacts or glasses. But Floyd usually dragged him to the dorm when he didn't have either. Sure he should learn his lesson and have them on hand, but he's still not used to having them since his mother had deemed them unnecessary. Thankfully Crewel was able to help, citing school rules for why he needed them. In his opinion his vision wasn't that bad. At least that's what he thinks until he inevitably gets dragged into Octavinelle.

This was one of those unfortunate times. He was working on a history assignment at Floyd’s desk, cursing whoever put the important information into a much smaller font. While the eel mer was laying across his bed like a Dis-Knee channel character, listening (ironically enough) to a playlist made up of eighty percent Dis-Knee songs. Occasionally he would start dancing around the room while singing, a few times he even got Riddle to participate(even though he couldn't hear the song). Those breaks were quite fun for the shorter, mindlessly twirling and following Floyd's lead to whatever he was listening to on his headphones.

How are you going to call yourself a respectable person when you're messing around instead of doing the work assigned to you.

Eventually they stopped, Riddle needed to finish his assignments and the eel mer wanted take a nap. I should take one too. He ignored that thought.

At some point the room became a lot darker, the only light being the dim glow of Floyd's phone on the side-table and the fae lights that were hung over the desk. Deciding the best thing to do in this situation is attempt to finish some of the e-paperwork Crowley didn't want to do, then finish his actual school stuff at Heartslabyul. Thankfully it didn't take that long to finish going through the permission requests. Since he was done sooner than expected he started reading one of the medical papers his mother sent him. Slowly he began to drift off as he read, occasionally being startled awake by his mother texting him. After the fifth time he finally looked at what she said.

Mother

8:23

I know you've seen my messages.

Why have you been ignoring them?

8:25

I hope you've been studying instead of messing around.

8:31

Fine, don't talk to me I understand.

8:47

Goodnight, I expect a reply tomorrow.

                                                                                                                                                                                                           8:49

I apologize for the delay in messaging. I was taking care of some work                                                                                                                                    and reading that research paper you sent.

Reading the exchange left him more exhausted than he was before. Now he just wanted to go back to his dorm and sleep. He didn't even have the energy to get up now, let alone deal with Floyd, so he stayed in the chair for a bit trying to gain the energy to leave. It took a bit of laying there and almost passing out to finally gain the strength to deal with the five headaches that comes from leaving. After much deliberation on whether or not turning the light on was worth it or not he got up and finally flicked the switch on. When he went back over to the desk he started to put everything back in his bag. Floyd was stirring awake, he picked up the pace, only having a few things left.

"Sea fucking witch. Where'd all the fucking light come from." The eel dramatically threw an arm over his eyes.

Shit.

"I turned it on so I could put everything away and leave. Sorry for waking you." Quickly he shoved the last of the papers in his bag, internally he sighed, I'll deal with that later, I guess.

" 'S fine goldfishie. Just pass me my glasses. I wanna seeeee." With the arm that wasn't over his eyes, he did the hand gesture most little kids did when asking for something, "grabby hands" is what Riddle remembered it being referred to as.

It wasn't hard to find them on account of Riddle putting them on the side table after scolding Floyd for twenty minutes about leaving them on the floor. He passed them over before walking towards the door.

Floyd blinked a few times after putting them on, his vision properly adjusting to the room. "Awwww, why's goldfishie leavin' already?"

"I've been here for nearly six hours. I am leaving since I have other things I must get done." He replied tersely.

"Nope," Floyd popped the p, "you flash-banged me which means you gotta get squeezed."

Now most people would fear for their life after that. Riddle wasn't fully exempt from that, usually he was scared for the whole dorm and the screaming they would end up hearing. Right now he was too tired to play along. Quickly he moved closer to the door, his hand grasped the handle. Right before he can turn it, he was immediately pulled back by an arm wrapping around his torso. Every. Single. Bloody. Time.

"I need to finish my assignments before I can do anything else. My mot-" He got cut off by Floyd physically dragging him towards the bed.

"Let go of me!"

"Ahahaha, goldfishie stop kicking my shin." The eel started to laugh hysterically.

"No. If you're still tired just go back to bed. I have things to do." Not listening to the taller's request he kept kicking his shins.

"Hmmmmm, I say you don't have anything you gotta do." Floyd literally threw him on the bed as he said this.

"You said you've been here for six hours right?"

"Yes, but I don't see what that-"

"It was three when you came over. Which means it's nine, which means bedtime for goldfishie."

"No, I have to finish my work."

"Nope, you gotta go to sleep."

That's what gave Riddle an idea. "Fine, but turn off the light." If he turns off the light Floyd would stop holding him down, when that happens he'll bolt for the door. Internally the red-head was thanking whoever put the light switch just out of reach from the door.

Shockingly enough, the plan worked, or partially worked. He grabbed his bag and was able to get the door open. However right before his foot could make it past the threshold his kidnapper boyfriend lifted him up with one arm and put him over his shoulder like Priceco rice. The other arm took the backpack and tossed it in the corner.

"I swear to the seven if my laptop broke."

"It'll be fineeee. Mine hasn't broken yet."

"You see how you said yet. That means you know it'll break eventual- STOP THROWING ME!"

"Nope, goldfishie's 'eepy."

"I am not. Even if I was, I would go to bed in my dorm." He was lying threw his teeth, he was tired, very tired, but he knew he wouldn't go to bed without finishing his work and Floyd was stopping him from that.

"Would yah finish your work?"

"..." The red-head gave up on lying, it wasn't working so what was the point wasting his breath on it.

Accepting his fate Riddle got comfortable in the other's arms. He turned to the side and buried his face in the eel mers chest. When he stopped showing any signs of trying to run away again, Floyd loosened his grip and began to run his hand threw the red strands of Riddle's hair; knowing it would help him relax. Eventually the younger fell completely asleep. Before moving him over Floyd kissed him goodnight then grabbed his phone from the side-table. He messaged Crabby to let Sea Turtle know Riddle wasn't going to be back until tomorrow. Now he was scrolling Magitube, headphones in and watching random videos that came across his home screen. At some point in the middle of the night the red-head moved himself almost completely on top of the eel. One of his legs was draped over the eels, while his torso was in-between one of his boyfriend's arms(which made scrolling ten times more difficult) head laying on his chest. How the tables have turned. Now I'm stuck. He kissed his goldfishie's forehead again and went back to looking at dumb videos Jamil was sending him.

Notes:

Yay!!! You made it to the end. The whole idea was Floyd getting flash-banged by a light suddenly turning on. I say the glasses Jade and Floyd wear have like an enchantment or something so they can see properly with lights on(and help their shitty eel vision). Floyd usually wears contacts(that have the same efffect)like 30% of the time or on days with basketball but usually he doesn't feel like wearing them and just figures out where he's going with hopes and prayers.

Floyd does refer to Riddle with his real name in his head because of how close they are but dosen't say it out loud often cus he knows it annoys him(it also makes his goldfishie special cus no one else calls him that).

I wrote like most of this while watching disney movies, specifically Camp Rock( hasta la vista goes hard), high school musical two( amazing), and night at the museum(i saw this while editing). You totally couldn't tell. And yes Priceco is the twst equivalent to Costco. Sorry about Riddle's reply to his mom, it's formatted weird cus ao3 did not like how i did it originally and I gave up once it got close enough.
