Work Text:
"Kang Yihak," Go Yeongeun called out to the woman from behind the wall. She felt a headache coming on as the latter jogged over to her.
"Ms. Goral! What's wrong? Do you have money to donate to me?" Kang Yihak quipped as she stopped before her, "I take hits as well! 50,000 for every kill, and 100,000,000 if they're a famous person!"
Go Yeongeun's lips twitched. This attitude was to be expected unfortunately, if Kang Yihak hadn't been like this, she wouldn't have been targeted by that lady either. Go Yeongeun shivered as she remembered the murderous glint that had passed through Lee Seonghae's eyes the last time she'd caught the supervisor staring at Kang Yihak.
Lee Seonghae wanted to kill Kang Yihak.
Go Yeongeun supposed that that was somewhat inevitable. Unfortunately for herself, she wasn't the most keen on having one of her few remaining batch mates die in such a fashion, well, all except Baek Saheon of course. So, that meant she had to somehow either keep Kang Yihak from committing 'evil' acts for money, or stop Lee Seonghae from killing Kang Yihak. Considering the circumstance, it was better to treat it as if the latter option didn't exist.
"Hey, Kang Yihak, how much would it take for you to listen to me and only me for a while?"
Kang Yihak tilted her head. "Kinky," she said with a marvel in her tone, "I didn't take you for someone like that, Ms. Goral! I wonder what your coworkers would think if they learn what you're like in private? Of course, I won't say anything if you..." she held out her hand and rubbed her pointer and thumb together, "Give me a little bit of benefits?"
Go Yeongeun closed her eyes and summoned for whatever shred of patience she had before opening them again.
"I'll give you 5,000 won hourly if you stop doing morally dubious things and follow my orders."
Although she can feel her wallet burning, this was the only conceivable way that Go Yeongeun can think of to get Kang Yihak to stop…everything, at least for long enough that Lee Seonghae goes after someone else first.
"Ms Yeongeun is truly kind," Lee Seonghae said with a smile as she set her lunch tray down besides hers. Go Yeongeun paused as she stared at the new tray. She tried not to think too much about the differences in both portion and quality between their trays.
She'd cut down on almost all luxuries in order to fund her 'Stop Kang Yihak from being killed' ploy.
"Thank you?" Go Yeongeun said.
Lee Seonghae smiled before her gaze turned towards Kang Yihak, who was sitting besides Go Yeongeun and eating the same basic tier lunch as her, despite being the recipient of all the income that GO Yeongeun had lost. "Truly, I never expected such a civil method," Lee Seonghae said as she generously grabbed some of the meat from her almost overflowing tray and added it to Go Yeongeun's plate, "Have some."
Go Yeongeun dully nodded. Lee Seonghae definitely knew what she was trying to do. The fact she hadn't come for both of their throats should be considered a good sign, right? With that 'comfort' in mind, she glanced down at her tray….but before she could enjoy the piece of meat that had just landed on her plate, it was snatched away.
Go Yeongeun followed the retreating chopsticks to Kang Yihak's mouth.
"Oh! It's delicious, Ms. Goral, you should get this meal next time!"
Go Yeongeun blinked. Her lips parted in absurdity as she felt for the first time a shred of the rage that must've been in Lee Seonghae's heart as she looked at Kang Yihak.
What an inhuman bastard.
She looked back over at Lee Seonghae, whose smile had near flattened into a line, her chopsticks still hanging in mid-air.
"I'm not hungry," Go Yeongeun took the initiative to say before Lee Seonghae could give Kang Yihak an impromptu lobotomy with her chopsticks, "Ms. Yihak!" Go Yeongeun forced on a smile despite her grumbling stomach, "You must've seen that I was no longer hungry! How nice of you to help me finish my leftovers!"
Kang Yihak nodded cooperatively from the side, for once, "Ms. Goral is as kind as always!'
Lee Seonghae finally set down her chopsticks, and Go Yeongeun felt her stomach drop alongside it, "I see! That is certainly lovely of you to do, Ms. Yihak!" she said with a smile that was a bit too wide for her face.
Go Yeongeun wondered if she'd believed even an ounce of that messy lie.
"But, Ms. Yeongeun," Lee Seonghae's gaze turned towards her, the smile still lingering on the corner of her lips as she uttered chilling words, "Although I appreciate your kindness in trying to help her, lying is something only bad people who deserve punishment do. So," she clapped with a tilt of her head, "Don't. Okay?"
Go Yeongeun stiffly nodded.
It was only the third week since the plan had been put into action that it had to be stopped with the same abruptness.
Go Yeongeun had underestimated Kang Yihak significantly.
"I'm out of money." Go Yeongeun said with a complex look in her eyes as she turned to stare at Kang Yihak.
The woman in question blinked, a brief flash of disappointment on her face as she sighed dramatically, "Well, thank you for your hospitality in this period, Ms. Goral! Make sure to tell me the next time you host one of these events again!"
Go Yeongeun pursed her lips, a wave of helplessness washing over her, "Watch your words around Supervisor Lee, Kang Yihak," she gave one last warning. She hoped dearly that the next time she sees this materialistic coworker of hers, it wouldn't be in the form of a corpse.
"If I follow that rule, will you pay me?" Kang Yihak asked, her eyes sparkling.
Go Yeongeun's brow twitched.
"Stay alive first."
