Work Text:
"Have you booked in that 217 lunch, yet?" Evan asks, peering over the rim of his glasses, tablet in hand as he props himself up in bed. He's the picture of comfort — tri-pillow wedged behind his back, comforter pulled up to his waist, with his side table lamp alighting his mussed curls in a soft glow.
The glasses are new — prescription, thick black rims with lenses that make his beautiful blue eyes even clearer. He'd put off going to get his eyes checked — the same way Tommy did when he started squinting trying to read things — eventually caving when Tommy starting reciting his own arguments back to him. About eye strain, and looking after yourself, and doesn't he want to be a silver fox with a sexy pair of glasses?
Evan had rolled his eyes, claiming his hair wasn't that grey. Not yet. But had given in anyway. And, as promised, he was beautiful in his glasses.
He's still beautiful now, in a stretched out Station 217 t-shirt he stole from Tommy, pillow creases on his face, with his black reading glasses perched on his nose. Wedding ring glinting in the lamp light.
But he's also sat up in bed working, when they were supposed to be having a relaxing morning in bed. The curtains aren't even pulled back yet. Hell, Evan was still asleep when Tommy left to go make breakfast, snoring and snuffling into his pillow, automatically starting to shift towards the warm spot Tommy left.
"Good morning to you too, Evan." Tommy replies, gently pushing their bedroom door open all the way with a push of his hip, breakfast tray balanced in his hands. His tone is dry but he feels himself smiling anyway, the way he always does, eyes crinkling at the corners. "I've bought breakfast."
"Good morning, baby," Evan replies, gaze softening as he tracks Tommy's path from the door to his side of the bed. Absently folding the cover over the tablet before resting it on the bed beside him. Before the screen flickers off, Tommy gets a glimpse of their shared calendar, meticulously colour-coded. Evan leans over, almost hanging out of bed as he angles himself towards his husband, lips pursed.
Tommy leans in to meet him, automatically, instinctively, as he places the tray on his lap. Greeting him with a kiss, the pair smiling into it, a sweet press of lips against lips.
Tommy pulls away slowly, their kiss lingering, careful not to knock over the breakfast now steaming in Evan's lap. Scrambled eggs, streaky bacon, hash browns, a side of avocado on toast. All cooked to perfection, exactly the way Evan likes it.
It's only then, once Evan's had his kiss that he leans back in bed, not quite reclining against the pillows again. Propped up just enough to eat. Gaze still soft, but smug in a contented way. He's exactly where he wants to be. Hands drawing up to balance the tray, the coffee in a pale yellow IF IN DOUBT, BAKE IT OUT mug.
"Thank you," Evan adds, carefully moving the mug to his side table, before gazing back up at Tommy again. He's beautiful, even more so up close. Tommy can see the lines forming at the corners of his eyes that deepen when he smiles, the grey that's crept from his temples further into his curls, his freshly kissed lips. "Y-you didn't have too."
"Of course I did, I like treating you." Tommy replied with a casual shrug. He didn't think he'd ever get sick of it, treating Evan. Being able to show Evan how much he cared, how much he loved him and thought of him, even after all these years together. He was always awake before his husband, why would he not use the opportunity to treat him to breakfast in bed? "Plus, it's not like I only made some for you."
Evan snorts, swatting Tommy playfully as he retreats from his bedside, hand gently catching against his hip. "Yeah, yeah, go get your breakfast, baby."
Tommy hears Evan chuckle to himself as he retreats, the sound floating down the hall as Tommy heads back to the kitchen.
There's the sound of little paws padding against wood, and Belle is at Tommy's side, attempting to weave between his legs and meowing her little head off. She follows him to the kitchen, pushing off her back legs to smooch her head against Tommy's shins. He just laughs and lets their silly little cat follow him to the kitchen. She's been fed — both their cats have — it was a distraction tactic while he was frying the bacon. Making sure they were both occupied with their breakfast so he could try and make his and Evan's in peace.
It didn't work, Leonardo joining Belle in her attempt to try and get underfoot as Tommy grabs his own breakfast tray — matching Evan's, of course. Chuckling to himself as he follows the hall back to Evan.
He enters their bedroom to find Evan swallowing down a bite of food, moaning as he does so, cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk.
"Delicious as always, baby," he says, smiling as he reaches out to take the tray out of Tommy's hands. Holding it in the air above his own tray so Tommy can slide into bed next to him, pulling the comforter up to his waist.
Tommy's still shirtless — he always did run hot — but the comforter is a pleasant weight on his legs, and he can feel the heat radiating off Evan, now they're back in bed together. Taking the tray back from Evan, hands brushing as Tommy eases it from his grip — he thanks him with a kiss.
"B-but uh, seriously have you booked in that 217 lunch yet?" Buck asks, finally, now that Tommy's settled in bed next to him. Brow gently furrowed, as if he's still going over their schedule in his head. He probably is.
"Not yet," Tommy replies, picking up his knife and fork, before starting to cut into his own breakfast. He did do a good job, if he says so himself. "Carrington still hasn't told me what weekend she needs off to go help her Mom, and I want her to be there, if I can."
"She got a promotion, right?" Buck asks, absently pushing away Belle as she tries inch her way closer to their plates.
"Pilot II." Tommy confirms with a nod towards his Evan before popping a forkful of food into his mouth. "The lunches are never mandatory, but she always tries to go and I want to make sure to celebrate her."
"You're a good Captain," Evan says softly, gently, smiling over at his husband.
"Takes one to know one." Tommy retorts, the words coming out a quip but his tone betraying him so it falls just as softly. The words catch, and Evan's eyes flicker down to his lips unabashedly. Tommy smiles as he leans in to kiss him again, praise pressed between them.
"Book in your station BBQ, and I can work around it." Tommy says, gesturing to the tablet now laying in between them, half buried in the comforter and an approaching cat.
"Yeah?" Evan asks, eyes glinting as he breaks out into a grin, bright and clear behind his glasses. God, he's so cute when he smiles.
"Yeah, of course." Tommy confirms with a casual shrug and a smile. "I know those are important to you."
It was one thing Evan talked about when he became Captain of the 125, wanting to host his own station BBQs, just like Bobby did. He wanted to become his own sort of Captain, champion his own dynamic, but that was one thing he wanted to carry over.
Give his team a time and a space to chat and unwind, no pressure. Evan still loved to cook, and he loved being able to cook for them. He didn't think he'd ever get sick of feeding other people, providing for them in this way. Staying connected to Bobby, in this way. It wasn't every month, and not everyone attended, but that worked for him. It was supposed to be fun, eating and chatting out in the L.A sun without the pressure of the station.
It was also important to Evan that Tommy be there, meeting his team, and so Tommy made sure to always show up. Help with set up, man the grill, ease the workload as much as he can.
"I'll put it in the calendar," Evan says with a happy wiggle, joy radiating out of him. Tommy would bottle the sight if he could. "And-"
"And I'll let you know as soon I have a date for the 217 lunch," Tommy confirms with a nod, smiling all the while, finishing his sentence for him. "So I can put that in the calendar too."
"You're sexy when you talk logistics." Evan says with a bite of his bottom lip and a cheesy wiggle of his eyebrows. Laughing as Tommy snorts in response, swatting at Evan half-heartedly, hand brushing against his stolen t-shirt.
"Yeah, yeah," Tommy laughs, trying and failing to hide his grin. "Eat your breakfast before it gets cold."
"Aye-aye captain." Evan teases with a salute and a grin of his own, eyes crinkling at the corners with matching smile lines. He's here, they're together, and he's never been more beautiful.
