Lando was on pole again, he felt on top of the world. He floated through his media responsibilities and team debrief, knowing he was back where he belonged. As soon as he was free from his obligations, he collapsed on the sofa in his driver room. With a smile on his face, he pulls out his phone and dials the number of the only person who's voice he wants to hear.
"Hello, my pole sitter," the man says as he picks up. Lando sighs happily.
"Jacob." He sounds lovesick. "You were watching then?"
"Got coach to give me some one-on-one practice at lunch to watch you, I still hate that I can't watch you win the race tomorrow," Jacob lamented.
"Easy tiger, I've got to make it out of turn one first," Lando giggles, then sighs again, sounding far more melancholy than before. "I miss you."
"I miss you too, I'm dragging you to as many of my matches as possible in the summer break."
"Yeah, F1 champion who has never shown any interest in cricket, suddenly showing up to a load of games definitely won't have people asking questions." He pauses. "Sorry, I do really want to come see you play in person, but the media, and some of my fans, would start digging and I don't know if I can deal with that right now." Lando runs his hands through his hair.
"I know. It's a pipe dream. One day though," Jacob says dreamily.
"Don't worry babe, I'm still flying straight to the UK after the race tomorrow, just tell me which city to be in and I'll be there."
"My game is in Manchester, but the team will be heading back to base in Birmingham, then I have three days without playing before we head to Southampton."
"I'm going to talk to Jon, but I'm pretty sure I can be in Birmingham by 9pm," Lando says at high speed.
"I could actually cry, baby that would be the best thing to happen to me in a long time," Jacob breathed.
"I'll have to get it cleared by the team, but they should be on my side right now." There's a knock on Lando's door and his trainer pokes his head in. "I have to go, my ride back to the hotel is here. I love you and I will let you know about tomorrow as soon as I have it confirmed."
"Love you too." Lando hangs up and holds his phone to his chest for a moment.
"Come on lover-boy, we need you well rested for tomorrow," Jon teases. Lando throws one of the cushions at him. "Especially, if we need to rush through post race proceedings to get you to Birmingham." Lando blushes at the revelation he was being listened to and throws the other pillow at his trainer.
"Stop listening in to my phone calls," Lando complains, "but yes, I would like to be in Birmingham as quick as possible after the race."
