Work Text:
To say Jin was tired felt like an understatement.
He missed his younger members, every single one of them
What he did not miss was their bratty sides.
Every member had a bratty side to them, it just changed depending on which member decided to be a brat on that day.
Jin had quickly learnt the differences between the boys, especially after looking after them for so many years. Yes they hadn't lived like this together for a while but they hadn't changed.
So over the years Jin had quickly learnt that brattiness came in many shapes and sizes.
And he had first hand experience with 6 of them.
Since being back together Jin had yet to experience all 6 of his members' bratty sides, right now tho? He was getting experience with one of them for sure.
Kim Taehyung.
Taehyung, even when they all lived under one roof, was normally well behaved but when he got in one of his moods. It was everyone's problem.
They'd only finished recording their RUN BTS 2.0 episode a week ago, and now they were travelling from Mexico city to Stanford.
Jin knew that tours got stressful, especially with how large scaled this one was, and travelling constantly never helped.
But Jin had a limit.
Everyone had a limit on how far you could push and Taehyung was VERY close to that limit.
They weren't long in their hotel when Taehyung and Jungkook started bickering.
The youngest enjoyed teasing Taehyung, and Taehyung hated being treated like he wasn't Jungkooks Hyung.
Sure Taehyung was only a year and a half older but he took that year and a half very seriously.
“Jungkook. Stop it. You're being disrespectful.” Taehyung jabbed at the younger, Jin had overheard their bickering and if it was any other day he was certain Taehyung would've bickered with the youngest.
But it wasn't because Taehyung was in a bad mood.
Jin actually could barely believe that Taehyung was scolding Jungkook about being disrespectful when the entire day the younger had done nothing but disrespect Jin!
His oldest Hyung!
Taehyung had been sarcastic, rude, gave attitude and more.
Jin watched as he literally told Namjoon to "not be such an idiot.”. Normally Jin didn't correct banter, it was natural in a group of 7 men who had met when they were teenagers.
But that hadn't been banter.
It was outright just insulting Namjoon.
Unfortunately they'd been in public with staff so Jin had to bite his tongue, he'd keep an eye on the younger and if it didn't improve he'd have a word with him.
It didn't improve as they travelled and Jin HAD tried to have a word with Taehyuung, who promptly said “Stop it, im a grown man.” and walked off to go talk with Jungkook and Jimin.
Jin knew they were all adults, early thirties, but when you were an idol with a new album and the biggest boy group in history… stress tended to cloud your judgement.
Jin had early on taken the role of discipling them all.
He was older, more level headed, so he decided that as the hyung he would be incharge.
Namjoon had firmly said no at first but after watching Jungkook scream and curse at them all after one gruelling practice he quickly changed his mind.
Jin had set rules for them all to follow, curfews, needing to eat 3 meals a day, tell someone when you're injured, sleep. All things to help their well being.
He also discussed with them all about punishment.
Of course none of them ever wanted to admit they'd need a spanking, but they'd all been spanked a few times as kids.
So Jin had no problem spanking them when they misbehaved.
Jin barely had to ever haul them over his knee and deliver a hard spanking for more than 10 minutes.
Usually they needed a few smacks and a telling off, some of them needed timeouts in addition, but Jin never truly had any problems during discipline.
Members like Namjoon, Hoseok, Jimin and Jungkook would need a minute before Jin would deliver the smacks and a telling off before they were comforted, and that would do them. The boys tended to be the most guilty, Jungkook and Namjoon in particular, and they would all already know what they'd done wrong and be apologising.
Taehung and Yoongi however?
Jin thinks the two would both rather fist fight God himself then admit that they might even slightly be in the wrong.
Jin has multiple memories of him practically holding Yoongi down with the help of Nmajoon or Hoseok for a spanking because he just couldn't admit that he might've broken a rule by staying in his studio for 5 days straight surviving on coffee and willpower alone.
Taehyung wasn't much better, the boy might've been worse, Jin still remembers when Taehyung tried to bite him, not to mention the brat ran away while Jin was stunned.
When Jin got his hands on the boy it might've been the hardest spanking he'd ever given one of the members.
There was a reason fans said he gave off princess energy.
Jin sighed as they all walked to their rooms, they'd be sharing a penthouse-like room that had a kitchen, living room, multiple rooms, etc. more like an airbnb then a hotel room but still really nice.
There were two rooms of two and a room of three so they'd done an age order like system.
Jin and Namjoon in room 1, Hoseok and Yoongi (Hoseok swore he wanted Yoongi to show him some beats the older had been working on recently but Jin knew better.) and in the room of three the maknae line.
Jin was happy when he comfortably got to the penthouse and in his room. The beds were nice and Jin was exhausted. They'd all decided that room service was the best option for dinner back when they'd landed.
So here they all were, in the sitting area of the penthouse, waiting for their dinner.
Jin wasn't partaking in any conversation but he was listening in on Yoongi's discussion with Namjoon about the upcoming concert.
The maknaes were sitting beside each other, well more like on top of each other. Taehyung was partly in Jungkook's lap while his legs were in Jimins lap, and Jimins legs were on Jungkooks legs. It was a mess of limbs.
Jin couldn't make out exactly what they were talking about but he could hear Taehyung's voice have an irritated twinge to it.
“I didn't even suck that bad-” “You did!”
Taehyung glared at Jimin, he hadn't done THAT bad when they'd played foot volleyball. Yes he wasn't great but he wasn't horrible.
Not to mention Jimin and Jungkook were ganging up on him, again.
They'd done the same at the airport before their flight, and then Jin told HIM off.
Taehyung was innocent, it was Jungkook and Jimin who were misbehaving. He shouldn't have been scolded because of them.
Taehyung knew that Jin knew that. When Taehyung had snapped back the older had barely reacted so he must realise that Taehyung was innocent.
“You're both ganging up on me.” Taehyung pouted slightly, he hated when they did this, they'd been doing it since they debuted.
“Calm down Taehyungie~” Jungkook chuckled as he blew on the olders ear “Yah!” Taehyung jumped and whacked Jungkook's arm.
“You're so disrespectful. Mm your Hyung.” Taehyung was Jungkooks Hyung. Jungkook was Taehyung's only Doseange. Maybe Taehyung treasured that a little more than he should've, but he did.
“You don't act like it when you're sitting on Kook's lap and pouting” Hoseok chuckled, he wasn't sitting far away and had been quietly listening in to the younger's conversation.
Taehyung knew Hobi was teasing but it didn't stop his pout from deepening. “Shh.”
Hobi laughed as he stood up, “And jungkook’s disrespectful?” Taehyung's eyes scrunched as Hobi ruffled the boy's hair while walking past.
Jin looked up as Hobi went off, seconds later the bell for room service, their dinner had arrived, finally.
Jin also got up to go assist Hobi with the food “Stop bickering, go set the table please.”
Jin heard clothes and bodies scramble off as he got to the door.
Luckily when Jin returned the table was set and Yoongi and Namjoon were getting everyone drinks and the maknaes had set the table.
Good, this dinner could go nice and swift and then all everyone had to do was go to sleep.
Easy.
“Hyung, pass a beer.” Jin heard Taehyung's voice as he was serving the food. Jin turned to look at the younger.
“No, Tae your not having a beer.” Jin sighed as he watched Namjoon open one.
Taehyung looked up from where he was “What? Why not?”
Why? Jin actually had to question if Taehyung was being sarcastic or not.
Taehyung had been disrespectful, rude and overall a brat and he was asking why he wasn't allowed to have a beer?
“Why do you think so?” Jin started plating the table, placing the dishes down.
“I don't know. That's why I'm asking.” Tae glared at the older.
Jin knew that look.
Jin had seen the same look so many times on a younger Taehyung's face.
The glare, the pouty lips, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.
Jin just wanted to have a nice meal, but he also wasn't going to let the younger one drink when Taehyung had been in an awful mood the entire time.
“Because you weren't exactly… well mannered to anyone today.” Jin chose his words carefully, he didn't want to say rude, or not well behaved, both felt too childish.
Jin knew Taehyung was 30 now but the life they had was stressful so it was only natural that sometimes he would act out.
“What- yes I was!” Taehyung's voice came out whiny, childish and Jin genuinely couldn't be bothered with this.
“Taehyung. Don't push it. Now eat.” Jin watched as Jungkook placed a glass of water in front of where Taehyung's food was.
Jin sighed as he sat down, pouring himself a beer.
Normally when they had dinner together, especially without any cameras, they tended to eat mostly in silence with little pop ups talking about how the day had gone.
But they had travelled all day today and everyone was rightfully exhausted.
Traveling was tiring, and with multiple concerts while on a world wide tour, it was normal for all the members to be fit to drop.
so, yes, Jin was slightly irritated with Taehyung.
Especially as the younger kept kicking Jungkooks leg from across the table and was doing an awful job at being sneaky with it.
Taehyungs was occasionally BRUSHING his foot on Jungkooks leg.
It wasn't like he was actually kicking him or anything.
Everyone would know if he was kicking because Jungkook would be in pain.
And he obviously wasn't.
So Taehyung wasn't actually kicking him, just brushing his foot against Jungkooks.
Taehyung picked at his food, eating every now and again.
After returning from military service his diet had been… everywhere.
When he was in the military he'd noticeably changed, he was broader, he put on muscle, and honestly Taehyung enjoyed it. But when he returned he noticed other people didn't really enjoy it.
He dieted, he stopped eating, he worked out. Basically just did anything to try and get that ideal idol body back.
It worked.
Sure he wasn't as skinny as he was when he debuted but he was still less broad, more lean now which is what people wanted.
He was eating but that didn't mean he was going to stuff his mouth every time food was in front of him.
“Tae, stop kicking Jungkook please.” Namjoon's voice cut through Tae's thoughts, he looked up. His leg stopped.
“Im not kicking him, just… y'know moving my leg.” Tae shrugged as he pushed some food into his mouth.
Namjoon curled an eyebrow at Tae “Really?”
Taehyung nodded, sticking with his idea of Jungkook's leg being in the way. “Yes. It's not my fault his legs are there.”
Jungkook and Jimin both laughed, causing Taehyung to send a glare their way. “My legs are just fine where they are y'know." Jungkook waved his fork at the older man
Taehyung shrugged as he jabbed his foot into Jungkook's shin.
“Taehyung. How old are you?” Jin looked at the younger, his voice dead serious causing Taehyung to stop and look over.
“31?”
“31 and this close to a spanking.” Jin held up his fingers slightly apart, staring at the younger.
Spanking?!
Taehyung was NOT getting a spanking, he wasn't close to one either.
“What- i literally haven't done anything!” Taehyung stared as Jin sighed.
“Disrespect to your hyungs, messing around at the airport, messing around on the plane, in the hotel lounge, causing a disturbance at the table, KICKING Jungkook. I wouldn't really call that ‘not doing anything’.” Jin looked at the younger, his voice calm as he listed off the multiple offenses of the day.
Taehyung stared again, he felt like his eyes were going to pop out of his head.
He wasn't even THAT disrespectful, and it was Jungkook and Jimin messing around, He wasn't even causing a disturbance or kicking Jungkook!
“I wasnt…” Taehyung muttered as he went back to his food.
“I already gave you a warning at the airport, take this as your second. One more and I will have you over my knee.” Taehyung cringed at the thought of going over Jin's knee at his age.
He was 31.
Taehyung could barely even remember the last time he got a spanking from the older, most likely before their military service.
When they were recording the new album Taehyung remembers at least every member being smacked once or twice but not a proper over the knee, trousers around your ankles, ass on fire spanking.
There was no way Taehyung was getting a spanking at 31.
It was fair to say that after the warning Taehyung very quickly stopped kicking Jungkook and quietly ate his food which was a relief for Jin.
He didn't want to spank the younger but he wasn't scared to, sure the younger had gained muscle when he was on his military service but Tae had slimmed right back down again. He wasn't exactly as skinny as he was 10 years ago but he was in his 30s, no one can expect him to be that skinny.
Metabolism changed with age.
Jin enjoyed the silence that the group tended to have at the dinner table, but his mind couldn't help but wonder as he sat there.
Wonder to a conversation that they'd had while filming the BTS run 2.0.
‘They had’ more specifically what Tae had brought up when they were having dinner.
During the dinner Tae had spoken about kneeling against a wall with your arms up for a period of time as punishment.
It was normally a punishment that would have been common in the 1950s up until the 2000s.
Jin remembered receiving it a few times from his grandparents and once at school but it became less popular as he grew up so he hardly was punished in such a way.
Taehyung however had spoken in the past about kneeling punishments.
From what Jin understood Taehyung had encountered the punishment multiple times throughout his early life.
Jin had been raised in a city, in a wealthy family, so kneeling and physical punishments in school and at home were not as popular as they were in more rural places. Usually if Jin misbehaved, which was never often as a child, he was forced to write lines or do extra chores.
Taehyung however was very much a country boy.
He was raised on a farm, how could he not be a country boy.
Jin understood that Kneeling punishments, and even getting hit with a ruler, were common in more rural areas of Korea, Yoongi and Taehyung had both experienced the punishments throughout their lives. Whereas the other members either have one or two circumstances where they received those punishments in particular.
Jin still remembers the look on Yoongi's face when Namjoon mentioned he'd never been forced to kneel at school.
So now Jin was thinking.
At the time of discussion Taehyung was enthusiastic to try the punishment again at his current age to see the difference, he'd even tried to make it a forfeit for the losing team.
Surely it was Jin's duty as a Hyung to fulfil Taehyung's wishes?
Not to mention that Taehyung had been acting up all day and the quiet thinking time before bed would definitely help.
Jin would handle punishment after they finished their dinner.
Dinner wrapped up fairly quickly, they spoke for a while before Yoongi got up and declared he was tired and going to bed.
They decided to let Namjoon and Hoseok tidy up as Jin and Jungkook cooked dinner the previous night.
“Taehyung.” Jin spoke as he stayed seated, Taehyung was getting up with Jimin and Jungkook, presumingly to go and play video games before going to sleep.
The younger turned around “Yea?”
“Go find a wall, kneel with your arms above your head. an hour.” Jin's voice was calm but Taehyung's expression faltered.
Beside him Jimin and Jungkook both stared, trying to suppress laughing at Jin's words
“What- why?!” Taehyung blinked at the older man.
Jin sighed, he knew there was no way that Taehyung would simply just accept his punishment. “Because, you've been acting up all day. Might be good to have some quiet time to think.”
Taehyung stared, dumbfounded at his Hyungs words.
Kneel with his hands up- he wasn't 5. He wasn't doing that.
“I'm not 5. And you said I had a last warning. I literally didn't do anything!” Taehyung raised his voice slightly. This was so unfair!
“Tae, listen to your Hyung. Also didn't you just say a few days ago that you wanted to try it out and see how it would feel?” Namjoon spoke up as he was clearing away dishes.
Taehyung knew Namjoon was right, but he didn't mean that he actually wanted it as a form of punishment. He meant just to stand somewhere and reflect with other people who were doing it with him. He didn't want to be punished like a kid.
“That's not what I meant- that's the punishment that little kids get.” Taehyung's lips curled into a pout as he stared at Jin.
Jin rubbed his eyes “Tae, you've had timeouts before and have never complained about it being a ‘childs’ punishment. This is basically a timeout, just on your knees with your arms up. And I'm sure you'd prefer it compared to a timeout with your trousers around your ankles and a sore butt” Jin looked at the younger man as he, for the 3rd time that night, threatened him with a spanking.
Taehyung's mouth hung open before closing, he nodded “Yea…”
“Yea? Good. go find some wall.” Jin nodded at the boy as Taehyung quickly found a bare space on the wall. He went down to his knees before putting his arms up.
Taehyung knew the position well and he could feel his body dreading the next hour. Tae knew that the point of the punishment was to be painful, he also knew just because it was done up beside a wall didn't mean you could lean on it.
He still remembered when he was a child and tried to lean against a wall during punishment and his grandmother scolded him for it.
He was always able to do it as a child, and the longest he'd ever been forced to do it for would've been around 30 minutes but for an hour?
Yes, he was in better shape then most 30 year olds were with how much he went to the gym, the relentless choreo they had to do and now a world tour, but he was still 30!
Luckily they didn't have a concert tomorrow so at least that meant he could relax if he was left with knee pain.
He really shouldn't have kicked jungkook…
Jin had watched as the younger went and found a part of the wall and started kneeling.
Finally he listened, only taking an entire day of traveling, two warnings and 3 threats of getting a spanking.
Jin could see Namjoon eyeing between Jin and Taehyung. Jin assumed that the younger one probably had a question.
“Hyung?” Namjoons voice spoke up from where he was drying dishes.
“Mhm?” Jin nodded as he finished his beer.
“Is…. is this going to be a normal punishment from now on?” Namjoon nervously asked.
Jin wasn't sure. He hadn't really thought about it, he just wanted Taehyung to behave.
“Maybe i’ll make it one” Jin shrugged as Hoseok groaned from where he was at the sink “Jin- some of us don't have good knees!”
Jin chuckled “you have fine knees”
“With how our choreo is going, I doubt any of us will have knees after this world tour” Namjoon sighed.
“Yea! I'm waiting for the day all my dancings going to catch up to me and I end up collapsing” Hoseok nodded as he handed Namjoon another dish.
“Dont be so dramatic” Jin nodded as he got up and threw his can away.
Just as they were talking Yoongi walked in, his eyes went straight to the kneeling man against a wall.
“Im guessing I missed something.” he continued walking and grabbed a glass.
“Jin-hyungs gonna make us kneel as punishment now.” Namjoon groaned, causing Yoongi to freeze where he was filling his glass.
“I am NOT kneeling. Ever. That is one thing I will NOT do.” Yoongi looked at Jin.
Jin knew Yoongi would never do that. Everyone probably did. The man hated most punishments, especially embarrassing degrading ones.
Jin still remembers when Yoongi nearly kicked him for trying to put him in timeout in front of the members.
After Jin spoke to Yoongi he found out that it was just because Yoongi was there hyung. And obviously that meant that there was no way he was going to be disciplined in front of them. Obviously.
Hoseok chuckled, “And why wouldn't you?”
“Beacuse i still remember skipping school and both my teachers and parents forcing me- on two separate occasions, to kneel. I kneeled for 3 hours!” Yoongi groaned as he grabbed some water.
“3 hours-!? Can schools even do that- was that legal?” Namjoon stared.
“The school gave me the max of one, my parents gave me two.” Yoongi shrugged as he drank.
“I'm so happy I never had to kneel…” Hosoek whispered to Namjoon who nodded as they finished the last of the dishes.
Taehyung could hear them talking, he hated that he could hear them talking about stuff and he couldn't join in.
It wasn't even like he was doing anything fun.
Jungkook and Jimin were probably playing video games while he had to kneel here like a school boy.
It was better than a timeout after a spanking he supposed.
But he was kneeling in front of everyone.
Not to mention both Jimin and Jungkook definitely laughed at him when they heard Jin.
This was one thing he always hated about punishments.
Because he was the second youngest it meant that Jin never had any problems discipling him in front of others. It was the same for Jungkook and even Jimin.
If they misbehaved in front of the group there was a good chance that they'd get disciplined in front of them as well.
The other three though?
9 out of 10 times they were dealt with in private.
It's not like Taehyung had ever said anything out loud to the elders but he and Jungkook had discussed it.
He also felt that once they reached the age of maturity that Jin would start disciplining them in private as well but here Tae was at 31, kneeling in a room while his Hyungs chatted, not even acknowledging him.
He felt like he'd been here for hours but in reality he knew it had only been maybe 15 minutes.
How was he going to do this for another 45?
Taehyung decided to stop trying to listen to the older conversation and instead got lost in his thoughts.
He let his mind quieten while his eyes stayed glued to the wall, not focusing on any part in particular.
His brain went to thinking about the past 13 years he'd spent with the members and how much had changed in that time.
Even just how much had changed in the last three.
He'd completed his military service, made an album and was now on one of the biggest world tours in history.
He was performing tomorrow.
In front of tens of thousands of people.
There were a hundred and fifty thousand people over the three days in total.
And now he was going to perform knowing that the day prior he was punished like a little kid.
Great.
Tae knew he shouldn't be thinking about how much longer was left because all that did was make the wait longer but he couldn't help himself.
He had to be closing in on the halfway mark now, there was no way he wasn't.
The dull throb in his knees only seemed to grow as he felt his arms start to tingle above him.
He flexed his fingers, creating a fist and bending his wrists causing sensation to quickly flood back to his hands.
Shifting his weight from one knee to the other, attempting to ease the discomfort he'd felt for the last 15 minutes at least.
He shouldn't of acted so chuldish… he knew he shouldn't but sometimes he did and before he knew it someone was telling him off.
He sighed, putting his head down to look at the floor.
The entire punishment itself was embarrassing, the telling off and warning was embarrassing.
He didn't want to spend his evening on his knees, like a child.
Taehyung could feel tears well in his eyes.
He didn't want to end up like this.
More tears welled in his eyes and soon they fell, landing on the hard floor.
How could he end up in this position at 30?
He didn't mean to end up like this.
He didn't want to be here.
A soft choked sob escaped his lips as his arms started to shake.
He just wanted to be with his hyungs.
Jin noticed when Tae was nearing the end of ability to stay quiet and still.
The younger one always hated being alone.
He'd always preferred being around someone, he was clingy.
Everyone knew he was clingy, sleepy Taehyung always just needed to cuddle someone.
So when Jin heard a quiet sob coming from where the younger was placed he wasn't shocked.
Namjoon looked over to Taehyung before looking back at Jin, quietly asking the eldest to do something.
Jin nodded as he sat up “tae? Come here.”
The sobbing stopped as Taehyungs arms slowly fell to his side before he stood up on shaky knees. Taehyung turned around and Jin could just squeeze the boy.
The younger's cheeks were red and his eyes were rimmed with tears with his pouty lips aswell.
The look Jin had seen so many times and the look that always made him weak in the knees.
“Come on” Jin smiled and patted his lap, the younger quickly walked over and planted himself on Jin's lap, hiding his face in Jin's chest.
Jin nodded and patted Taes back. “You know why I made you do that. Right?”
Tae nodded “ok, you wanna tell me why?” Jin hummed as his hand traced up to Taehyung's hair.
“Was disrespectful, and i ignored your warning and i kicked Kookie” Tae's voice mumbled into Jin's chest.
“Mhm, well done.” Jin smiled as he played with Tae's hair.
“Sorry Hyung…” Tae's voice was small, much smaller than anyone had heard for many years.
“It's ok, just relax” Jin smiled and kissed Tae's head.
The younger leaned more into Jin, his eyes falling shut.
Jin looked at the younger one.
This is what he missed.
His younger brothers, bratty side and all.
