Mazurka

Summary:

For the month of July, just like for June, in addition to the word prompt and the number count, Harry must receive a gift in your drabble. It can be anything, a watch, a cake, or maybe something more abstract, such as a promise or a declaration—simply put, it doesn’t have to be an actual physical object. 🎁

Theme: Treacle Tart
Length: 463 words

Old man drarry gift each other annual challenges to keep the spice alive

Work Text:

“I have seen you fly across the sky without effort. How can you be so graceful in the air, but on land have the grace of an Erumpent?”

Harry fell onto the ground, panting and slightly dizzy, after being spun around by a frustrated Draco for what felt like hours.

“Well there’s your answer, isn’t it? I'm nearly a centenarian, not a limber youth slinging myself across the sky. I’m trying, but this is hard. What if I quit and just show up to my party like a normal person, and I eat treacle tart until I eventually throw up and you take me home? Doesn't that sound more fun?” Harry gave Draco a winning grin.

“Are you a quitter, Potter? Is this the sort of old tired man you have decided to turn into?” Draco sneered. “Need I remind you that I completed your challenge before my own birthday celebration? Which makes me the winner, does it not?”

“Alright, fuck off.” Harry bristled as his grin was replaced with a scowl. “Merlin forbid I’m allowed to complain. For your birthday, you just had to learn a Muggle sport by the way. I never challenged you to win trophies or titles. Now there are Muggles who have pictures with you as a bowling league champion.”

Draco preened. “Yes, I did much better than you thought I could, didn't I? I certainly did not sit down feeling sorry for myself and complain like a little peasant. I was a man of action and here you are– a little tired man sitting down on his arse looking up at me, a champion of the bowling people.”

Harry glared at Draco, who smirked, but offered a hand to help the smaller man up.

“Ok. Understood, I am not giving up.” Harry pouted but began to stretch to get back to being pulled across the dance floor until either he died or managed to remember the entirety of the poncy dance Draco wanted to dance with him later in the month.

“I am pointing out the stark difference between our challenges though. Couldn’t you have picked an easier dance than the…Maruka? You knew what bowling was, I hadn’t the foggiest what the Maruka was prior to you telling me I needed to learn it.”

“Mazurka, not Maruka. We have shared a beautiful home together for decades now, my darling idiot. You have failed to notice Frédéric Chopin’s brilliance in all that time. To me, this seems like a ‘you problem’ does it not? Ted told me about this expression. Seems like it was created with you in mind.”

Draco stepped closer to Harry. “Now, grab my hand. We can try again and for the sake of my nerves, please follow my lead. Do not fight it.”
