Work Text:
Chase was stupid, he knew that. That was obvious. Seeing two of his coworkers at the same time without the other knowing was just about the shittiest thing he’d done. He kept turning it over in his mind, trying to rationalize it. He wasn’t in any serious relationship with either of them, never put a label on it or anything, so it didn’t matter? If he came clean, he would risk losing both of them, and he just couldn’t let that happen.
-
It started with Cameron. They had a twisted routine; they’d wait until House and Foreman left the diagnostics room before sneaking off to some supply closet to make out or hook up. They didn’t necessarily think anything of it, nothing detrimental to their relationship. Plus, doing it at work added the thrilling risk of getting caught.
What they didn’t know, though, was that Foreman had had his eye on Chase longer than Cameron. He saw the way she looked at Chase. He knew he’d probably never get his chance with Chase, but he could still hope. Over time, he knew what was happening. He started picking up on things. Cameron coming back from the “bathroom” or from “running tests” with the top two buttons of her shirt undone. Chase would walk in with his tie slightly loose. He knew to never say anything, though. He just knew his chance had passed. He wondered if House knew. He wondered if anyone saw it as clearly as he did.
It was months of this. Months of Foreman keeping his mouth shut during nights at the bar after work with Cameron and Chase. Months of wondering why Chase would walk in the opposite direction of the lab to go “run tests”.
It was all shattered the day House found out. He’d brought Wilson with to prove a point. Who knows how many times Cameron and Chase had used the supply closet for having sex. The minute Chase was about to unbutton Cameron’s khaki slacks, there was a hard knock on the door.
“C’mon out, you two lovebirds!”
Goddammit. House had caught them. He nudged Wilson with a small smile.
“At least when I do you, it’s in the privacy of my own home,” He added quietly.
Inside, as Cameron was fumbling with the fly on her pants, Chase jumped up with a force so great he knocked his head into a shelf not too far above him. He came out of the closet holding the crown of his head as Cameron followed not too far behind him, her face flushed bright red.
“Nice job, Romeo,” House retorted. “Just wait until I tell Foreman.”
