Attorney Kim's Perfect Idol

Summary:

Sunoo held out his hand cupped into half a heart toward Jay the moment he stepped out of the van. Jay's eyes swept the crowd, passing right over him—lost somewhere in the noise.

"Jay! Heart, please!"

Sunghoon shouldered in out of nowhere and finished the heart for him. Winked, too.

Are you kidding me.

Sunoo flipped his hand into a thumbs-up.

Attorney Kim's secret double life as fansite master-nim MeowStar0620 for ENHYPEN's Jay gets found out by the one member he doesn't even care about, Park Sunghoon.

hi, lee!! thank you so much for trusting me to run wild with this idea.

massive thanks to everyone who let me borrow their usernames for this. the hate tweets and messy discourse in this fic are NOT real opinion.... and not meant seriously in any capacity. if any of it sound a little too real that's the result of 5 hour a day twitter screentime. peace and love

Work Text:

EN-HY-PEN! EN-HY-PEN!

Sunoo had been standing in the third row for two hours. The hand warmer had died an hour ago and cradled uselessly in his pocket. His feet had gone numb from all the waiting and he'd stopped feeling his nose shortly after.

The black mask he was wearing covered his lower face and he had his white hoodie on and tied so tight it looked like either a hazmat suit or a cotton bud. Slung across his body that he guarded with his life was a Canon EOS R6 Mark III with 70-200mm lens attached to it that cost twice his monthly base salary in total.

Before him, banners unfurled. Someone's cheering kit caught the wind and smacked the girl beside Sunoo in the face, and she apologized to Jake on the banner.

As soon as ENHYPEN showed up, those cameras the size of a bazooka commonly used to document wildlife went wild going after the best pictures of the three members of ENHYPEN. Sunoo wasn't any exception.

The staff reminded the crowd again about the high touch rules. Single line! No grabbing, please. You will have approximately 2 seconds per member. Once again, no grabbing!

Jake pressed a small paper bag into Sunoo's hands with both of his. "Stay warm, yeah?"

When Sunghoon held out the gift pack, his hands were bare, red-knuckled from the cold. He was the Ice Prince, they said. Seemed like the nickname wasn't just for show afterall.

Sunoo took it with both hands and gave a neat bow. "Thank you! Good luck on the promotion."

Then lastly, Jay.

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY.

Sunghoon had already moved on to the next fan when—

"Jay hyung~"

His head whipped back over his shoulder to double take. Not even 10 seconds ago Sunoo was thanking him like Sunghoon was his higher ranking officer in the military—the same man babytalked Jay with sparkly eyes.

"Sorry—" Sunghoon huffed a short, amused breath through his nose to the fan in front of him.

"Take care of yourself, okay? Dress warmly and good luck for Lucifer promotions—" Sunoo said in lilted voice, like talking to a baby or small animal, "fighting~"

"You too! Thank you for coming."

With one single smile from Jay, he floated the remaining two steps down the line on pure serotonin.

"Where's Jisun?"

The fan in front of him craned her neck, scanning the crowd.

Her friend sighed. "She got here but the disabled parking was full and she couldn't find parking anywhere else."

"Again?" The first fan's face fell. "She missed it last time because of parking too."

Sunoo caught the words and tugged his mask up slightly. "Sorry, did I hear that right?" came out muffled and a little apologetic. "The disabled parking is full?"

The friend shrugged, unsurprised. "Yeah, it happens a lot at this venue. It fills up fast."

The first fan made a frustrated sound. "They should just build more spots. There's clearly enough space."

"There really is."

"Anyway!" The subject was quickly dropped. "Jake's outfit today was so pretty."

"Sooooo pretty. Though I wish they'd done something different with his hair? They didn't even try. Like I get that he's gorgeous no matter what, but don't you think they should try harder? I mean compared to Sunghoon—"

Wonhee was summoned at the mention of Sunghoon. He stopped scrolling through the pictures on her camera to side-eye them.

"What are they even talking about? Sunghoon oppa hasn't dyed his hair for two years and he's stuck with the same two haircuts since debut," she muttered.

She tilted the screen toward Sunoo. He leaned over and looked.

"Nice."

"Nice?" she repeated, appalled at the inadequacy of this response.

"I only had my eyes on Jay, sorry."

She let that go. "We're going to Haidilao after this. Some of the unnies are going. You should come, they want to meet you."

"The unnies? How great."

"Just come eat with us. Don't act like you're too cool for it."

"You know I don't really do group things." Sunoo checked his phone. "I actually have to go."

Wonhee looked up from her camera. "Now?"

"I only took a half day today."

She lowered the camera slowly because she needed both hands free to properly express his dismay. She said, "Oppa," like a full sentence.

"What can I do." Not a question. He grinned at her over his shoulder. "I need to keep making money if I want to keep supporting Jay. Later, Wonhee."

"What do you even do for work? You're always disappearing!"

Sunoo was three steps from his car when it finally bothered him.

He stood in the middle of the parking structure for a moment, spinning his keys. He considered how late he was already going to be versus how much this was going to eat at him on the drive back.

His conscience won. It usually didn't.

The disabled parking section was right by the main entrance, marked with cobalt blue signs and painted symbols that were apparently decorative, judging by the two SUVs sitting there without a placard between them.

He exhaled through his nose and took his phone out.

Plates first, then the empty windshield where a placard should be, then the whole car. He crouched to get a cleaner angle, shifted, crouched again. He was on the second car angry footsteps echoed down the lot.

"Hey! Who are you?!"

Whoever's uncle he was, he looked unhappy about whatever he was seeing.

"What are you doing? That's my car!"

Sunoo took another picture.

"Hey! That's private property!"

The man stepped directly into his shot. Sunoo moved around him. The man followed, sputtering, and Sunoo got a clear frame of his face in the process, which the man did not appreciate.

"Are you filming me right now? I can have you arrested!"

Sunoo opened the Safety e-Report site and started uploading.

"—invasion of privacy, there are laws about this—"

"Mm."

"Are you even listening to me?"

He submitted the report, waited for the confirmation screen, pocketed his phone, and looked at the man properly for the first time.

"Ahjussi. Do you know this is a disabled parking space? Where's your permit?"

"I have one, I just—I switched cars, it's in my other one—"

"Where?"

"Why do I have to show you anything?"

"Because you're parked in a disabled spot?"

"Who are you? What's your name?"

"Okay." Sunoo decided this conversation had exceeded its allotted time. In his line of work, time is a finite commodity.

"Hey! Where do you think you're going? You took pictures of me and my car without my permission. You know that's illegal? Come here this second and delete it."

Sunoo kept walking.

"Take off your mask, you rude punk." The man stepped around him, blocking his path. "At least show your face. Let me see what you look like."

Sunoo didn't budge.

"I said—" The man's hand shot out, grabbed his collar, went for the mask.

Sunoo let him. He'd been waiting, actually. The mask came off in the man's hand. The man looked briefly triumphant then just confused.

"You're just a little kid!"

Sunoo grabbed his wrist. One moment the man was standing, the next he was being pressed face-first against the hood of his own illegally parked car, arm bent up behind his back.

"LET ME GO! let go! Who are you? You'll regret this! My friend is a prosecutor—"

"Okay," Sunoo sighed. "Let's talk through what just happened. Disabled parking violation, that's a 100,000 won fine on its own. But then you followed me when I tried to leave, you blocked my path, and then—" he tilted his head toward the CCTV camera mounted on the structure wall, "—you physically grabbed me first. Which that camera got. From at least two angles."

The man craned his neck toward the camera.

"I was photographing a violation for a legal report, not taking pictures of you creepily. You can't claim privacy on that. And since you put your hands on me first—" a small pause, "—whatever I did next is self-defense. I can sue you for assault. So? Do you want to take this further, or do you want to move your car and pay the fine?"

"Are you—are you a cop? Why is it even your business where I park?!"

Sunghoon had just stepped out of the building exit and posted up behind a pillar with a cigarette between two fingers and sunglasses on. He'd gotten about four drags in when he heard a scuff of shoes and double-click of a phone camera shutter.

Not this again.

He didn't turn his head, just cut his eyes sideways and spotted a figure in a white hoodie, crouched low near a row of cars holding his phone up. Sunghoon could tell what he was doing, he'd seen it a hundred times outside a hundred buildings just like this one.

This time, Sunghoon even recognized it from the hoodie and sneered. Isn't that Jay's fanboy? MeowStar0420?

He'd thought it was kind of refreshing to see a fanboy consistently showing up to their events. Sunghoon had even respected it a little. It took a different kind of balls to be a man unapologetically a fan of a K-pop boygroup.

Alas, the respect curdled fast. Guess "refreshing" just meant he hadn't seen the stalker part yet.

Sunghoon crushed the half-finished cigarette with his heel. He was thumbing out a text to his manager: someone's following me to parking lot, i think he got pics of me smoking, might need to deal with this later—when a shout cracked across the parking lot loud enough that he flinched and flattened himself back behind the pillar on pure reflex.

He risked a look.

The fanboy—Sunoo, though Sunghoon didn't know that yet—had one hand braced on the hood of a car, one arm cranking an old man's wrist up behind his back. The pink Jay cheering kit peeked from the bag and a photocard sleeve dangled from the bag strap—both swinging at the impact.

Sunghoon blinked in utter bewilderment, because what the hell is happening?

Sunghoon cast a wary eye around to see if anyone else was witnessing this. The lot was practically empty, so he started recording just in case anything turned out for the worse.

He managed to slide inside the van and watched the whole thing play out from there. If he called the cops right now, they'd drag him off in broad daylight dripped in ENHYPEN's merch head to toe. That couldn't be a good PR for the group. Fuck it, he thought. He closed his eyes for plausible deniability.

Sunoo let the man go, and the man peeled himself off his own hood and speed-walked away.

Sunoo crouched down and picked his mask up off the ground. He checked his watch next, and in doing it, tipped his face just enough into the light for Sunghoon to actually see it for the first time. Sunghoon's first reaction was to gulp, strangely and embarrassingly. He looked nothing like what Sunghoon would imagine behind the mask. He'd imagined something vague, more or less average.

This was not that.

"What a pain in the ass." Sunoo tossed it in the trash. Then he looked at his watch again. "Shit shit shit—"

What makes someone an idol?

Is it the good old washboard abs that would peek-a-boo from a stage costume "malfunction" that causes a simultaneous mass cardiac event spanning across twelve different timezones?

Is it the face? The sharp jaw, the clear eyes, the effortless beauty harmoniously arranged in a face the size of a human palm? Is it the talent? The remarkable vocals, the rapping, the dancing, the language skill, the variety skill?

Or is it something less quantifiable? The personality that beams through a camera lens that you could feel surging in your chest like a beautiful sunrise with fairies and sparkles?

The answer, of course, is all of it—and none of it individually. An idol is a convergence. A sui generis collision of all these qualities in a single human body. After all, an idol is someone to be greatly admired—worshipped. They're meant to be luminous and otherworldly with illusions that felt close enough to touch but impossible to reach.

Kim Sunoo's perfect idol was Jay of ENHYPEN.

Jay was a man of many talents. He could dance, play guitar, and he was one hell of a singer. His vocal was of a man who had lost three wives to divorce, two houses, full custody, most of his debit balance to child support, and had survived on the other side of all of it with nothing but his voice. It made Sunoo's commute on Line 2 a deeply emotional experience.

Oh my, oh my God…
This blood's pumping crazy…

Sunoo wiped his tear on one eye while his other was holding the subway bar. "Best music ever…"

Jay was so handsome that if you passed him on the street you could tell that he's a celebrity even if you didn't know him at all. With such a beauty and gentle masculinity in him that's so… so… hot… It got Sunoo blushing and fanning himself everytime he'd think about him.

What's even hotter was, Jay didn't hesitate to draw a clear, firm line with his own fanbase when they overstepped. He didn't do performative anguish, no softening. Just: this is not okay, don't do this. Kindly and clearly. An idol with an actual spine = HOT!

Sunoo could go on, he would write a 5 page fan letter for Jay without fail every year on his birthday, he could talk about Jay for hours. What could you ask more from an idol? What could you possibly ask more?

Kim Sunoo had only known to study hard all his life. He didn't have any interests or hobby. Law school was a choice he made precisely because he only liked studying.

He hadn't been looking for an idol to stan when he found ENHYPEN. Instead he'd been looking for a reason to not cry on a Tuesday, third year of law school while drowning in the sweet flavor of misery and despair from living his own choice. He'd missed his parents, his sister, his life. He'd missed actually sleeping—not just the three hour terror nap.

He had been doom-scrolling when he saw Jay's video. Sunoo didn't think much of it because his finger always automatically liked cute boys' videos that graced his For You page.

With just one like, the algorithm opened up the floodgates for him and Jay had become more than a random cute boy on the internet.

By the following weekend, Sunoo knew more about Jay than he knew about the contents of his Constitutional Law exam, which he took on Friday and passed by the skin of his teeth and didn't care even slightly because he rushed back home to watch Jay playing his guitar on Youverse Live.

ENHYPEN was the Bermuda Triangle of K-pop. Once you get sucked in, there's no way out. They were a trio group consisted of Sunghoon, Jake, and Jay. The ice prince one (Sunghoon), the golden retriever one (Jake), and the one for me… (Jay)

The Jay shrine in his bedroom had grown over three years. Albums stacked by era, every single Jay edition of ENHYPEN's releases lined up on the shelf, photocards sleeved and catalogued, signed postcards framed, magazines, calendar, a shoebox of concert tickets, dolls displayed in acrylic box, overwhelming amount of keychains, cheering kits overlapping posters, image pickets stacked by era, fan-made merchandises and lastly two editions of lightsticks.

₩120,000,000 over four years.

Which sounded insane if he thought of it as money spent. Sunoo justified it as a happy investment. It was dopamine therapy that had gotten him through law school, his job, and just life in general. He thought of it as the cost of having something in your life that made Tuesday survivable.

Jay made it all worth it. Every single won.

🔊 [NOTICE] ENHYPEN WORLD TOUR 'BLOOD SAGA' Announcement

Sunoo's desk was his own battlefield. Stacked to his right was case files bound with black thread, tabbed with sticky notes. His jacket hung on the back of his chair. The wall shelf behind him held years of closed files, spine-labeled in his own handwriting.

Two tabs sat open side by side on his monitor: his hearing and trial schedules for the next six weeks, and ENHYPEN's world tour dates.

Seoul was without question, he'd take all three days. Japan had three stops, he could do Tokyo. Bangkok, Macau, Singapore, still a maybe.

He counted his remaining vacation days and sighed.

He could not attend every stop of the world tour and maintain employment even though he had every mean to. He was a salaried associate, not a partner. Which meant his vacation days were finite and his billable hour targets were not. The only reason this exorbitant lifestyle was even remotely sustainable was his mother, who had been funding what she believed were "business trips" allowance and "self-care retreats" for going on four years now.

It sucked that he was the type of nepo baby with serious job instead of those with fake job titles.

He'd posted a preview set from mini fan-meet event and refreshed the engagement numbers. The replies and quotes were praising Jay's effortless handsome face and his new haircut.

"Right?" Sunoo said to no one. "The hair suits him so much." He scrolled down. "But then again. Anything suits our Jay hyung."

@MeowStar0420, 122k followers. Sunoo was behind one of the bigger ENHYPEN fansites running right now. A job he took as seriously as his day job.

"Jay hyung looked so good today," he murmured, propping his chin in one hand. He clicked through slowly, lingering. "I can't wait to edit the pictures from today as soon as I get out of this shit hole…"

nyang @jayluminati

let's actually talk about jay's solo schedules since you guys love to talk about it so much

2023: jay had ZERO solo schedules.
2024: jay self-produced a track on his own time, on his own dime. CLAY approached HIM. because they believed in jay and what he could bring as an artist.
2025 - now: the solo schedules he has now is because he built the network for those himself. the guitar collabs, the features, the variety shows, the brand deals/event invitations. none of that was handed to him. he put himself out there and he earned the love calls. it's not favoritism if he's working for it. he's simply reaping the result of his hard work. and at the end of the day jay never made it about himself. whatever he does is always for the group. he always talks about enhypen whenever he can and how he wants to be enhypen until he's old and gray. that's the kind of person he is, don't get it twisted.

also sunghoon not having solo schedules is between sunghoon and befall and maybe you should be directing that energy at his management instead of inventing a narrative where jay is somehow stealing from him. it's not like he says "back down i get all the schedules" and punches sunghoon? you can get angry about sunghoon's lack of activity but not by undermining what jay did for the group.

"Who's the client?"

"Befall. The entertainment company—"

Sunoo's ENHYPEN-sensitive ears perked up at voices coming from the outside. He minimized the Twitter tab—no, missed, and closed the work tab instead. He panicked and closed everything. Two shadows passed his door: Seokmin and someone from the Busan office whose name Sunoo kept forgetting.

"—their in-house reached out this morning. They want us on retainer for this one."

"Which one? Please tell me it's ILLIT, man. I want to see them."

Seokmin sagged with disappointment when he said, "ENHYPEN."

"Ah…"

Sunoo scrambled to his door and yanked it open too fast, making the two attorneys look.

"Oh, Sunoo-ssi." Seokmin's eyebrows went up. "You're back. How's your dog?"

"Dog?" Sunoo buffered. Oh. The dog. He forgot he'd used chocolate poisoning as his excuse for ducking out the whole morning. He didn't have a dog. "Oh—yeah, he's, um… he's fine. Thanks."

"Scary stuff. We lost our family dog to something like that a few years back." Seokmin shook his head, genuinely somber. "What'd you say his name was again?"

What the fuck did I name you, Sunoo thought. I probably told this lie before. What is your name. You are my dog and you exist and I named you something. What was it. "Daengdaengie…?"

"That's a cute name. Anyway, I'm glad he's okay."

Sunoo cleared his throat and leaned on the doorframe. Trying to act casual. "Sorry—couldn't help overhearing. Did you say ENHYPEN?"

"Yeah, they hired us."

"For what? Is it—" he whispered, "—is it serious?"

Seokmin waved a hand. "No, nothing like that. Something about stalking and harassment? Some celebrity stuff."

"Oh…"

"Why? Are you a fan?"

"No, no, no. I mean—I know of them, obviously." Maybe the denial came out too fast. Sunoo shook his head to pace himself. "They're very famous, aren't they? But I don't—I mean I'm not, like, a fan-fan. It's not really my thing. Idols and all that." He tried to crack a convincing chuckle. "Couple of my friends are into them, though. That's probably why I—anyway."

"Attorney Kim!" Hyeri, one of the managing partners, was cutting past them toward the elevators, eyes on her phone. "Good, you're here. Take the consultation for me. I have to go."

"Now?"

"Now."

Sunoo grabbed his jacket off the back of his chair, three steps into the hallway before he doubled back. "I'm just asking because I heard stalking mentioned? I've been studying a case on… that?" Not true, but he'd do it to make it true later. "If there's a room on the case, I'd genuinely—"

"You'd have to take it up with Jeon daepyo-nim." Seokmin was already walking off. "It's his!"

Sunoo nodded rapidly, said, "Right. Got it. Thanks," and jogged after Hyeri before the elevator closed.

Inside the men's restroom cubicle, Sunoo latched the door, lowered the lid, and sat fully clothed.

Three years into life as a junior associate, the weekly programming mental-wellness break was his own holy law. Whenever he felt himself teetering on the edge of insanity, he'd slip off to the restroom, lock himself in the farthest stall, and have a quiet crash-out (silent screaming, silent crying, silent ripping out his hair, silent choking himself, silent putting fingers gun into his mouth, then silent laughing once he realized we're all going to die anyway). Today however, he was atoning for his sins to his ENHYPEN gods.

"I have sinned today…" He clasped his hands together reverently. A tear dropped on his cheek and he dabbed it with his ring finger daintily. "Joan of Arc burned at the stake for what she believed in. I couldn't even admit I know who ENHYPEN is so I could commit to the facade of a boring normie…"

"Is someone in there?"

Sunoo flushed nothing into the toilet and pretended he was buckling his belt. "Yes, sorry! I was—I will be out in a sec."

Sunoo stopped for a moment to check his tie in the mirror and pushed through the restroom door with five minutes to spare. He calmly slipped into Courtroom 402 just as the bailiff was calling the docket.

"We'll proceed with the next case. Civil case number 2025-5390."

He found his seat at the plaintiff's table and set down his folder.

"Who's representing the plaintiff?"

"I'm Kim Sunoo with Jeon & Kang Law Firm, attorney for the plaintiff."

"Attorney Cho Minsik, representing the defendant."

"Please sit down." The judge glanced down at the file in front of him, flipping a page without looking up. "Plaintiff's counsel, you filed an amended complaint on the fourteenth."

Sunoo inched toward the table microphone. "Yes. The amendment reflects additional medical documentation obtained after the initial filing. The follow-up diagnosis dated October 3rd establishes that the plaintiff's injury required a longer recovery period than originally assessed. We've submitted this as Exhibit 7."

"The next hearing will be on November 21st at 4:00PM. Agreeable?"

"Plaintiff's counsel has no objection."

The defendant's attorney thumbed through something on her tablet and nodded without looking up. "Available."

The judge closed the folder and reached for the next one.

Sunoo exhaled, packed his tablet, and let himself feel for a good five seconds.

What a life. Beauty, behavior, brains—he had it all. He'd skipped a grade in high school, became the face of an academic institution, passed the bar on the first attempt, and landed one of three associate seats at Jeon & Kang with a terrifying score of 1,200 that made his parents (and Jay of ENHYPEN) proud.

If he played this right and didn't set anything on fire, he'd be eligible for the firm-sponsored LL.M. by year six. Partner track by year ten, ideally. Deep down however, if someone handed him a choice between billable hours and being a professional fanboy, he wasn't sure he'd pick with his brain. But no one was giving him the option. So, work it is.

He was halfway down the hall, thumb dragging through Twitter to see if there were any updates from ENHYPEN, when Attorney Jeon Wonwoo—the man whose name was literally on the building—stepped out of Hearing Room 3. Perfect timing.

"Daepyo-nim!" Sunoo caught up half a step behind him and slid into the elevator just as the doors started closing.

"Attorney Kim." Wonwoo glanced over. "Back to the office?"

"Yes, sir." This is it. Say it! "Have you… had lunch?"

Wonwoo checked his watch. "It's 4PM."

"Ah." Sunoo rubbed the back of his neck as the doors opened onto the lobby.

"Do you have somewhere to be, Attorney Kim?"

"No, sir."

"I skipped lunch." He was three steps ahead, cutting toward the courthouse exit. "Come eat with me."

Wonwoo picked an expensive omakase place with a seven-course tasting menu and took his time with it. Sunoo on the other hand hadn't touched his food. He was too busy bracing.

"Daepyo-nim. Can I ask you something?"

"What is it?"

"I heard about one of your cases, the ENHYPEN one. I'd like to be considered. I can help."

He'd rehearsed his pitch in his head to convince him that he should be on the case. Capacity wouldn't be an issue, he could juggle the Lim Corp and PK Group lawsuit on top of 40 other civil cases. He'd already read ahead on everything. He was ready to beg if it came to that.

The ENHYPEN case wasn't anything Wonwoo couldn't do in his sleep. So begging to be included might appear like an overkill. He'd already rambled long enough the he even gotten to the gushy overly ambitious part of growth and learning. His enthusiasm was one sentence away from outing himself as exactly what he was: a fanboy begging to breathe the same O2 as his idol.

Wonwoo tilted his head, amused. He'd probably seen a great many associates beg for a great many cases, and had never once seen one beg for something like this. "Didn't you say you want to focus on corporate law?"

Sunoo was running out of things to say and he was probably close to making fun of himself right now. He closed his mouth and resorted to staring at Wonwoo like a hopeful puppy hoping his silent plea was understood.

Wonwoo shrugged. "Sure. Why not. I could use the extra hands."

Sunoo sat up so fast he nearly upended his water glass. "Thank you, Daepyo-nim. You won't regret this."

♡ ENHYPEN…. My boys… I WILL MAKE SURE THESE ROACHES LEARN THEIR LESSONS…. ♡

The rest of Tuesday disappeared into it. He verified screenshots, traced the leaked dorm footage back to its original source, reviewed all posts and reply chains. He drafted the subpoena request for the account registration records twice, because the first draft had dear ENHYPEN, I am so sorry this happened to you… and his invisible tears all over it that he had to scrub out line by line.

By midnight he had four folders open on his second monitor: evidence of stalking, defamation, invasion of privacy, and harassment.

He hadn't ran out of fumes yet. His fingers moved faster than his thoughts could keep up with, hammering the keyboard out of vengeance and righteous fury. Sunoo was coming for them and he would make sure nobody who'd done this got to sleep easy again.

LET'S GO BABY I KNOW THE LAW!!!!!!

"I'm home~"

"Overtime again?" Jungwon greeted from the coffee table, cross-legged on the floor, slurping noodles straight out of the container while watching If Wishes Could Kill on the TV.

"Riki's not back yet?"

"Music video shoot. He's out until tomorrow."

"That's today? I thought that was next week."

"It was next week. Last week."

Sunoo swung the plastic bag of beer cans and twirled his way into the living room. "I have a new big case today~"

"The first person to giggle being overworked, everyone."

"The more work I take, the more I earn, the more I can support ENHYPEN." Sunoo dropped onto the couch behind him and cracked a can open. "The logic is simple, Jungwon."

"You have a spending problem."

"I have a love problem~"

"Speaking of problems, your packages came." Jungwon jabbed his chin toward the box on the table without breaking eye contact with the TV.

Sunoo lunged for it, phone propped up against the table lamp to record. The Sin: Vanish album sets had finally arrived.

"How much did all that cost you."

"Who are you, my mother?"

Sunoo saved the photocards for last, because the whole album unboxing ritual meant nothing if you rushed the ending. He held two pieces of paper with pictures to the camera first and flipped one to see who he got. It actually didn't matter who he got, what's important it he should scream first.

"AAAAAAAAA WHO IS IT WHO IS IT—" Jay. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA."

Jungwon physically recoiled beside him, face scrunching. "STOP THAT. MY EARS."

Sunoo flipped the second card. Sunghoon. His scream, this time, downgraded to a flat, "Aaaaah, nice." That one was going straight into his trade pile. Wonhee would appreciate it better.

He tore into the special edition photocards next. The one he'd scoured the entire internet and paid a fortune for, cheesing at the sight of Jay's face.

"You know Jay poops, right?" Jungwon said, back to saying some bullshits like a clockwork. "Farts. Probably gets diarrhea sometimes, like the rest of us disgusting mortals."

"Nooo~" Sunoo lilted, "Our Jay-hyung is different."

"You're going to snap out of this one day when you're older and cringe that you spent your twenties like this."

"How could I possibly stop," Sunoo said, holding the photocard up reverently, "when he looks like this? Huh? To be cringe is to be free, Jungwon."

Jungwon shook his head slowly. "You've lost it."

"Have you ever felt that kind of love for anyone? Where it's enough that they simply exist? And that fills your whole heart up?"

"No. Because that's a parasocial episode. Love has to go both directions. One-way love is just obsession."

Sunoo's face crumpled in genuine offense. "You understand nothing about love."

"I understand plenty. You're the one with no boyfriend, no friends besides me and Riki, no actual social life."

"Slander." Sunoo gasped, clutching the photocards to his chest.

Sunoo's nose wrinkled as something stinky finally reached his nose. He leaned toward Jungwon, sniffed once, and recoiled with drama. "Oh my god. Did you not shower after gym?"

"I'm teaching the evening class now." Jungwon was a former Taekwondo national team athlete turned MMA instructor. "Pays better than mornings."

"Pays better and smells so much worse." Sunoo pinched his nose shut with two fingers. "Go shower. You reek of foot."

Jungwon flapped a hand at him. "Yeah, yeah. In a minute."

By the end of Wednesday, he had a 110 page document and 93 flagged accounts. He had it on Wonwoo's desk by 8:40 the next morning before he went and rewarded himself a sugar bomb coffee. He was jumpy and overexcited probably with something undiagnosed.

ENHYPEN and their team were coming in at 11AM. He'd gone out of his way to personally buy coffee for them like how he knew they liked it. Just a little nice gesture for his favorite boys in the entire world without being creepy.

When he was coming back up with the coffees, they were already in the lobby.

WOWWWW ENHYPEN IS AT MY WORKPLACE TODAY!!! THAT'S MY CLOSE PERSONAL FRIEND JAY FROM ENHYPEN!!

Sunoo kept his face at a professional smile. Though Sunghoon was staring a little bit strange through sunglasses pushed low before he'd even finished crossing the floor. But Sunoo already felt a little too ill after he got shot by a thousand love arrows after Jay smiled at him, so he could be wrong.

Jake came up from a different elevator a moment later with their manager, brushing past love-struck-Sunoo and the whole group headed toward the VIP conference room with Sunoo leading the way.

He reached for the door one-handed, coffee tray in the other, and the hundred-page document clamped to his chest. Sunghoon reached for the same door half a second after him, then with a small tilt of his head, held it open instead.

"Oh, thank you!"

As Sunoo walked past him, Sunghoon leaned down at the right moment just slightly and murmured directly into his ear, "MeowStar…"

Sunoo felt the shiver.

WHAT DID HE JUST SAY????

Sunoo whipped his head back so fast he almost got a whiplash, unsure if he heard that right. But Sunghoon was already sitting down.

ENHYPEN and their team did most of the talking with Wonwoo. Sunoo heard maybe sixty percent of it. His brain was somewhere else. Yes, right there, across from him.

HOW THE FUCK DID HE KNOW?!

Sunghoon had leaned back in his chair, arms crossed and sunglasses off. Just staring and smiling. Funnily enough, Jay sat right next to Sunghoon. Every now and then his eyes would drift off Wonwoo and land, briefly on Sunoo. Under normal circumstances, being looked at by Jay would have warranted more inner hysteria, today he was all up in his head and stress-shaking his leg.

"—I'm assigning help from our best associates to this," Wonwoo was saying, "Isn't that right, Sunoo?"

"O-of course!" He straightened, cleared his throat. "ENHYPEN, right—you guys are really popular these days, aren't you? What's the song again? The one that goes... Pooooolaroid love…?"

"BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Half the room glance over in confusion at Sunghoon who burst out laughing. Nothing that had just been said was remotely funny.

Under the table, Sunoo kicked Sunghoon's shin.

"Shut.. your… mouth!" mouthed Sunoo through his toothy smile while Sunghoon doubled over clutching his leg in pain. Sunoo nudged his pen off the table with one knuckle and ducked down after it. He murmured, "We need to talk. After this."

Sunoo excused himself to use the restroom. This was his second mental wellness bathroom break this week which usually was not a great sign. Last time it happened, it was an hour before his bar exam.

He clasped his hands reverently in his usual cubicle, sitting on a toilet.

Your Honor. I object. I object to this entire situation.

He hadn't even gotten a proper look at Jay's face earlier and he felt like sobbing. His heart was beating too fast it felt like hopping on a rollercoaster and realizing halfway that the attendant guy on the ground never actually clicked Sunoo's safety belt and he had to clung onto his slippery seat for his dear life.

How did Sunghoon find out? Does that mean Jay know too? Does the whole group KNOW?

They were already filing out of the VIP conference room when he made it back. Sunoo didn't think twice and grabbed a fistful of Sunghoon's sleeve, hauled him sideways into the opposite elevator, and rapidly jabbed the close button.

"Sorry, sorry! I tried holding it! Or not!" He gave up on the lie halfway through it, spun around, and slammed both hands flat against the elevator door on either side of Sunghoon's head. He was properly kabedon-ed.

"How," Sunoo said gravely, "did you know."

Sunghoon was, if anything, delighted. "Wow. We're doing this? Very forward of you."

"How did you know."

"I saw you."

"When? Where? How? How did you know it was me? I never showed my face?"

Sunoo's grip on the high ground lasted exactly as long as his attention did, which was not long. The second his focus flickered, Sunghoon straightened, stepped forward, and sent him stumbling back a full pace until he was the one pinned against the opposite wall instead.

Sunoo's brain jumped immediately to the worst-case scenarios. Idols probably punch people too, right? He squeezed his eyes shut and threw one arm up to shield his face.

"Open your eyes."

"Don't want to."

"Do you want to see this or not?"

"No! I'm scared!"

"Oh—hey, Jay."

Sunoo's eyes snapped open, head whipping around but the elevator door was still closed. It was just the two of them and his own humiliation reflected in the metal.

"I can't believe that actually worked," Sunghoon muttered and held his phone up between them. "Here. Look."

Sunoo watched twelve seconds obscure zoomed in video of himself in a parking structure teaching an old man a lesson about disabled parking.

"...You were there?"

"It could've been bad, you know."

"It was self-defense." Sunoo said it flatly, a little annoyed at having to explain himself. "He parked in a disabled spot without a permit. I took a photo of the car for evidence. It was completely legal, we were in a public space. He came at me over it, grabbed my arm, and ripped my mask off."

"Okay. I believe you. But why are you this terrified someone found out you're a fan?" Sunghoon tilted his head, mock-wounded. "I am a little hurt you pretended you didn't know who ENHYPEN was..."

"That's—it's a work thing. I'm a lawyer, you see."

"So?"

"I can't have my face or my name attached to anything outside of work. People remember faces, Sunghoon-ssi." He was gesturing with both hands completely derailed. "Do you know how differently I'd be living my life right now if I'd gone into marketing instead—"

"Alright. I got it."

"Please don't tell anyone? Especially not Jay-ssi. He's already dealing with a stalking case right now. He does not need to also find out that MeowStar is one of the associate lawyers assigned to it. I am aware of the irony."

"And you're not even a little worried that I know you're—"

"For the record, I have never once stalked ENHYPEN. Public schedules only. Everything I've ever posted is legally clean."

"Sure." Sunghoon crossed his arms. "So, what do I get for keeping quiet?"

Sunoo's stomach dropped. "This is blackmail."

"Call it what you want."

"Fine." He straightened his jacket with as much dignity. "I'll withdraw from the case. You'll never have to see my face—"

"I want you to stay on the case though?"

"Whyyyyyy?" It came out closer to a wail than a question. "Just let me go. Do you have any idea how stressful this is for me right now? Stress, Sunghoon-ssi! I am going to lose hair over this."

"I want you to take pictures of me."

"…For what?"

"Post them on your account. MeowStar."

"It's a Jay fanpage."

"And?"

"You already have, like, probably hundreds dedicated fans doing exactly that."

"But you're the best. Everyone knows MeowStar."

"I mean—" Sunoo tucked a strand of hair that did not exist behind his ear. "That's just what people say. I never said that about myself."

"So?"

"This is a weirdly low ask. Are you holding something bigger over me?"

"Nothing."

Sunoo used the distraction to slip sideways out from between Sunghoon and the door and pointed dramatically up at the corner of the elevator. "This is a cliché! Do you know that?"

"...What are you doing?"

Sunoo marched straight back into Sunghoon's personal space. "Do you," he said, narrowing his eyes, "have a crush on me?"

Sunghoon reeled his head back until it hit the wall. "What?"

"I need to rule it out. This whole setup is straight out of BL webnovel. I need to know if I'm in one."

"A BL? What is happening right now?"

"HELLO?!" Both hands flew up at the ceiling. "PLEASE. Just let me GO."

"So? Sunoo-ssi?"

Sunoo shuddered the thought back down where it came from. None of that had happened. He was, regardless, still very much boxed in by Sunghoon's arms on either side of him.

He grimaced, then attempted a smile. "I can... try? Hehe."

ENHYPEN was flying out to Japan for the grand opening of the MIAU MIAU flagship in Ginza—the luxury house they'd been ambassadors for three years they'd almost synonymous in Asia.

At the airport, fans and reporters packed six-deep behind the human barricade, their camera shutters going off in waves.

Sunoo was there as well with his full gear, but not in the crowd. That's amateur and he didn't really want to harass them by shoving a camera the size of a weapon into their faces. He'd grabbed a spot on the second floor, getting a fuller range to catch the group's full movement.

He got Jay first. At this point it was muscle memory, honestly. He'd always found him before his brain caught up. Sunghoon came through a few steps behind, waving at the crowd. Sunoo's camera hovered reluctantly, lens drifting slower than it had for Jay.

He swallowed his pride and clicked.

Sunghoon wasn't a member he particularly had an interest in. Sure, he loved ENHYPEN as a collective, but his heart irrevocably belonged to Jay since day one. He'd absolutely butt heads with Sunghoon stans more times than he could count on, but the actual human being? Not once had Sunoo laid awake wondering what Park Sunghoon was up to.

Sunghoon had this whole Ice Prince branding shoved onto him and he did one hell of a good job doing it. Unfortunately, Sunoo found Ice Prince dated and boring. It was tired and done.

He sure wasn't ready to find out how annoying the Ice Prince off-camera.

Sunoo flew out a few hours later on a later flight, laptop open the entire trip—two case reviews to close out, notes to draft for Monday. By the time he landed, he had just enough time left to check into a hotel, do some editing, and grab maybe three hours of sleep before getting up at dawn to stake out a spot outside the store for the grand opening.

The trip itself was decided last-minute. He hadn't planned to come at all, but seeing it was scheduled on a Sunday morning meant an overnight round-trip was survivable if he didn't think too hard about what would be waiting for him on his desk Monday after.

He hadn't booked a hotel room to stay, but thankfully a Four Seasons happened to be close by.

"Hi. Do you have any rooms available for tonight?"

He was signing for his key when he felt sinister aura creeping on his neck. He glanced and Sunghoon was behind him, sunglasses pulled down his nose, eyes on the little paper sleeve the front desk had just slid across the counter.

Sunoo jumped back a full step like a cat. "Did you follow me?!"

"Shouldn't I be asking you that?"

"No? I didn't even know you were staying here, this was just the closest hotel I knew off the top of my head—"

"Here? This hotel is the closest?" Sunghoon's eyes caught on the well-known wealth defining credit card peeking out of Sunoo's wallet, and he whistled. "Ah. Never mind. Carry on, rich boy."

Sunoo spotted Jay over Sunghoon's shoulder and, in a panic, grabbed Sunghoon in front of him for cover. "Shit—"

"Sunghoon? What are you doing over there?" Jay called out, drifting closer curiously.

Sunghoon hid Sunoo properly in his back, holding Sunoo's wrist while Sunoo was clutching on the back of Sunghoon's jacket. "Just asking the front desk about good restaurants nearby. Go ahead, I'll catch up."

"Alright, don't take too long." Jay lifted a hand and jogged after their manager and Jake.

"Is he gone?" Sunoo hissed into Sunghoon's shoulder.

"Nope. Still coming this way."

"What? Can you just—tell him to go, please, please, please, I am begging you—"

Sunghoon didn't say anything long enough to enjoy it. Sunoo finally cracked and peeked out from behind him himself. The lobby was empty, no Jay in sight.

"Is it fun for you?" Sunoo shoved him off, ears burning. "Messing with me like this?"

"Ow," Sunghoon said, clutching his arm and staggering back a step dramatically. Sunoo rolled his eyes and dragged his suitcase off with him.

Sunoo received the pic like a jumpscare. No sound came out of his mouth and his phone flung across the room on pure reflex.

He gave himself a moment to recover—a silence and a hand over his heart. Picking the phone back up, he brace himself for another exclusive Jay of ENHYPEN content glory and zoom in on every pixel… only to find his Sunghoon's gym mirror selfie. His mood suddenly soured.

Sunoo left him on read.

Knock. Knock.

Sunoo opened the door grinning and expecting room service but the happiness died on his face. Instead of opera cake, standing in his doorway in gym clothes and sweat-damp was Sunghoon.

"Let me use your shower."

"...What?"

Sunoo's brain lagged when Sunghoon squeezed past him into the room and made a beeline for the bathroom.

"Wait. Hey. What do you think you are doing?"

The door clicked shut and the shower turned on a second later.

"...Okay."

Hands on his hips, he gave up on making sense of it. He dropped back into the desk chair by the window and opened his laptop instead rather than standing there stewing.

Sunghoon came out a few minutes later in one of the hotel robes, towel-drying his hair with one hand. He glanced around—the bed was cluttered with convenience store snacks and there were half-finished room service on the nightstand. He side-stepped the suitcase exploded across the floor and wandered over to where Sunoo was hunched before his laptop.

One arm braced on the desk, he leaned in over Sunoo's shoulder, peering at the laptop screen.

"So, this is how a fansite home master works." He watched Sunoo cull through a folder of photos in amusement. "Can I pick which ones go up?"

"Sure. Knock yourself out."

Sunoo leaned back to give him room—and only then realized that Sunghoon was basically naked under that robe. "Can you put on clothes?"

"You want me back in sweaty gym clothes? In your room?"

"Then just—go to your own room."

Sunghoon scrolled through a batch of photos of himself, then paused as something had just occurred to him. "Can I ask you something. You're a fan, right? Genuinely."

"Mm."

"You don't act like one, though."

"How would you prefer I act."

"I don't know. Just—not like this."

Sunoo snorted. "You lost fan-treatment privileges the day you called me MeowStar at my workplace."

"Would it be different if it was Jay standing instead of me?"

"I don't like you like that. I'm not inclined to extend you the same consideration." Sunoo pointed at him, up and down. "Also, this is a ground for sexual harassment."

"...Ah." Sunghoon pressed a hand to his chest, mock-wounded. "I've been shot multiple times in the chest..."

"Isn't it easier for you this way, though? If I acted like an actual fan around you this would be so much more awkward for you."

"Fair." A pause. "Kind of makes me want you to like me more, though."

"People always want things more once they know they can't have them."

Sunghoon pushed the snacks aside to make a room on the bed, and dropped onto it—arm tucked behind his head. "I'll just sleep here tonight."

"Absolutely not. Sleep in your own room."

"Why?" Sunghoon lay on his side, elbow propping his upper body up in a draw-me-like-one-of-your-french-girl pose. "I need to seduce you."

Sunoo raised his palm. "Doesn't work on me."

"I'm serious though, I can't. Someone knocked on my door earlier. No one was there when I opened it."

Sunoo sat up straight. "Did you record it?"

"Not even 'are you okay?' first? What about my mental health?"

"You need documentation for it to hold up. Did you tell your manager?"

"Yeah."

"Are they moving you to a different room?"

"No. They'll figure out the new one too. At least here they don't know where I am."

"Get up." Sunoo dug through his suitcase. "They're gonna come back. Let's go get evidence."

"But I'm tired." Sunghoon melted further into the mattress.

"What about Jay-ssi. Is he okay?"

"Wow. Favoritism."

"And Jake-ssi, is he safe?" Sunoo added boredly.

A t-shirt hit Sunghoon in the face. He peeled it off his head and caught the sweatpants that came flying after it. "They're staying in a staff member's room tonight."

"Get dressed."

"Do I have to."

"Not really. I could go handle it myself and you could just stay here and sleep."

"Fine."

Sunoo only went to grab his jacket off the chair—when he looked back, Sunghoon was standing there fully naked with his dick out and one leg halfway into the sweatpants.

"HEY. What are you doing?!"

Sunghoon hopped on one foot, spinning away. "I'm putting on clothes, why are you looking—"

"You could've used the bathroom for that!" Sunoo slapped both hands over his eyes.

"I thought you were leaving!"

"I thought you were coming!"

"When did I say that?!"

"I DON'T KNOW, JUST—" Sunoo spun a hard 180 to face the wall. "Put the clothes on and get out here."

Sunghoon caught sight of the back of Sunoo's neck, all red down to where it disappeared into his collar—and huffed a quiet laugh to himself, tugging the t-shirt over his head.

Once dressed, he walked up and grabbed a fistful of Sunoo's hoodie from behind. Sunoo yelped.

"Let's go."

They crouched in the corner of the hallway, backs against the wall, half-hidden from the sightline. Sunoo had wedged his phone against the base of a potted plant, angled toward Sunghoon's hotel room door.

"This is it? Evidence gathering?" Sunghoon whispered, folding himself down onto the carpet beside him, knees drawn up. "We just... sit here?"

"Riveting, I know." Sunoo didn't look over. "Do you recognize them, by the way? The people knocking?"

"I've seen them at the office building, taking the same flight with us, and multiple times at my apartment's basement." His voice dropped tiredly. "We already filed a restraining order on two of them a few months back."

"Pattern of continued contact after a legal order… We're gonna get them." Sunoo nodded once. "Okay. Now we wait."

A little after 1AM, three women stopped outside Sunghoon's door, knocked twice, and dissolved into laughter when nothing happened. They filmed each other jiggling the handle, whispering about whether he was actually inside. Sunoo's phone caught every second of it.

Sunoo allowed himself a satisfied smirk. "Got you."

The next morning, Sunghoon was packing his suitcase. He picked up the white t-shirt he'd borrowed the night before. A cartoon puppy rolling around in a patch of grass printed across the front. He held it up and brought it to his face to sniff it.

He chuckled into the fabric. "Baby. He smells like a baby."

Black van pulled up outside the MIAU MIAU flagship in Ginza. Fans were already packed along the barricades with their phones up. Security in earpieces formed a corridor from curb to door.

Sunoo had wedged himself into a decent spot near the front, camera strap cutting into his neck, phone in his other hand.

"JAY! JAY! OVER HERE! JAY!"

"JAKE YOU'RE SO HANDSOME!"

"SUNGHOON I LOVE YOU!!!!"

Sunghoon burst out laughing so hard he missed a step and stumbled sideways into Jake, who had to grab his arm to keep him upright.

Riki asked him to come pick him up from the studio. It wasn't like Riki to ask for rides, because he always had this whole too-cool-to-ask-for-help attitude even as the youngest in the friend group. The studio was a detour from Sunoo's office in Seocho-dong, and he was tired from work. But since Riki never asked for anything, Sunoo didn't push back. He just went.

He sighed, cut the engine, and hauled himself out of the car. The studio Riki co-owned with a few dancer friends sat above a cafe in Seongsu-dong. He was halfway up when a bright laugh drifted down through the door.

HOLD UP…

Wait a minute…

That's Jay.

Sunoo panicked, spotted a window, grabbed a stray chair, and stepped onto it to peek through the glass. Jake and Jay were inside, filming a TikTok thing with Riki.

Sunoo cursed under his breath and fumbled for his phone: Riki, you really couldn't have warned me—and in the middle of typing, his foot slipped off the edge of the chair and he crashed backward right into a person.

"You're basically throwing yourself at me," said a voice right behind his ear. "Are you sure you don't like me?"

Sunoo had his eyes screwed shut, braced for the floor. When it didn't come, he opened them to find the chair had been shoved back under him. He turned around to see Sunghoon staring up at him.

Strange. He'd spent years staring up at ENHYPEN. From barricades, from seats, from the back of a crowd, from behind his camera. This was the first time the angle had flipped, Sunghoon on the ground looking up at him.

Had Sunghoon always sparkled like this? Sunoo glanced sideways to check if it was the lighting but it wasn't. His eyes did all that. His eyes put the sparkles on Sunghoon's face.

"Riki said a friend was picking him up today. Big ENHYPEN fan, apparently. He asked if it'd be okay for him to say hi. That's you, right?"

Sunoo shuddered back into reality. "Uh, yeah."

"Need a hand?" Sunghoon offered one. Sunoo only stared at it. So Sunghoon looped an arm around his waist instead and lifted him down off the chair like he weighed nothing.

Still wide-eyed with both hands against Sunghoon's chest, he didn't want to step away yet. It felt comfortable, or maybe he was just touch-starved.

"You can come in. I'll say I ran into you downstairs."

"No need. I'll wait for Riki in the car."

"You want to see Jay, though. Don't you?"

Sunoo hesitated, then nodded, a little pathetically. "...Yeah."

"Then come in."

Sunoo followed him inside. Sunghoon announced it to the room. "Guys, guess who I ran into downstairs?"

Jake looked up first, brightened. "Oh—Attorney Kim?"

The protocol team gave him a quick, polite nod. Jay noticed him a bit later and Sunoo felt the familiar swoon rise up his throat, biting it down before it could reach his face. Riki opened his mouth to say something incriminating, and Sunoo shook his head at him so violently that Riki just shut it again, baffled.

"I just came to say hi."

He made small talk with the members for a few minutes—nothing important. One of the managers drifted over and joined in too.

Sunghoon, off to the side, watched him the whole time. Sunoo's eyes lit up differently when they looked at Jay. Brighter and softer, Sunoo clearly had no idea he was doing it. Sunghoon went quiet for for the rest of the conversation.

"It's getting late for me. I should head out."

They traded small bows, polite smiles all around. Sunoo slipped back out the door he'd come in, not noticing that Sunghoon didn't say goodbye.

Sunghoon let himself into Jay's room to borrow some cleanser—his own had run out days ago and he kept forgetting to reorder. Jay, sprawled on his bed with his phone propped on his chest, just waved a hand toward the bathroom. "Bathroom."

He did. On the way there, he spotted the MIDI keyboard, the one that usually lived at the company studio.

"You brought the MIDI home?"

"Mhm. That's mine."

"Isn't that expensive?"

"It's a gift actually. From a fan."

Sunghoon disappeared into the bathroom, squeezing cleanser onto his palm. "Which one?"

"MeowStar. He used to send me a bunch of thoughtful for my birthdays before the gift ban kicked in."

Sunghoon's hands went still over the sink before he made himself keep going. "What else."

Jay sat up a little for this one, scrolling back through memory. A special edition Gibson Les Paul guitar, he said. A turntable. A dyson haird And more recently MeowStar had started doing charity drives under Jay's name.

Sunghoon smiled at his own reflection in the mirror and pretended he didn't burn in jealousy. It wasn't that he hadn't gotten gifts like that. His interests didn't overlap with Jay but he had arguably nicer ones. Fans loved him plenty and he wasn't particularly materialistic, those had never been the issue. The issue was that none of it had come from MeowStar.

Jay tilted his head, mildly curious. "What's up?"

"Nothing." Sunghoon toweled his face dry and stepped back out. "Just asking."

"So, you're taking ENHYPEN's case. Sunghoon found out you're MeowStar and he's covering for you and he's using it to mess with you. Nobody else knows you're a fan. That's why you were acting weird at the studio."

Sunoo nodded, Riki too. Across the table, Jungwon acted supportive by nodding while munching his midnight dinner.

"Sounds like a BL novel."

That's what Sunoo was thinking too. Unfortunately for him, he was about to find out that he was right.

Sunoo dragged a tteok through the sauce. "I appreciated that you invited me over to see them earlier but this is the situation."

"Okay, no probs."

"You're being surprisingly chill about the fact that I'm one bad slip away from being outed as a diehard fanboy."

"I mean, what am I supposed to do, cry? Eat before it gets cold." Riki nudged the pan toward him.

"Also you complain about work every single day," Jungwon added, "so at least this time it's interesting."

"Hey." Sunoo set his chopsticks down. "Have you guys ever seen someone and they just—I don't know. Sparkle?"

Jungwon groaned immediately, dropping his head back. "Is this about Jay. Can we not, please."

"No, no—not him. Just, a person."

"Do you like someone?"

"No?"

"Good looking people sparkle. I've seen it," Riki tried, "It's like walking with a filter on your face."

"…Huh." Sunoo mulled over it. "He's not usually the kind of face I like… but I guess if you're objectively pretty you sparkle regardless."

"Who are you talking about?"

"No one."

Sunoo was halfway down the front steps out of his office for lunch, when an arm hooked around his shoulders. Every self-defense move that Jungwon drilled into him on fired at once—and then the person, capped and masked, dipped his head close and tugged the mask down.

"Off to lunch, Attorney Kim?"

"Why are you here." Sunoo scanned the sidewalk and grabbed Sunghoon by his sleeve to the nearest parking pillar.

"I had a schedule nearby. Figured it'd be your lunch hour, so."

"Someone could see you." Sunoo pulled the scarf from around his own neck, wrapping it around Sunghoon's lower face.

"Aren't you cold now?" Sunghoon poked Sunoo's nose, already pink at the tip from the wind.

"I was gonna get soup to warm up."

"Then let's go get it." Sunghoon caught his hand before Sunoo could argue and pushed it straight into his own coat pocket.

Sunoo felt something small and warm against his palm. "What is this?"

"Handwarmer. I got one in the other pocket too." Sunghoon reached over for Sunoo's other hand and tucked that one in as well. It pulled Sunoo forward before he could catch himself, and suddenly they were face to face, a few centimeters of cold air the only thing between them, with both of Sunoo's hands buried in Sunghoon's coat.

Sunoo's face got ten shades redder.

"Warm?" Sunghoon asked.

Sunoo yanked his hands back out. "Uh. Have you eaten yet?"

"We're eating together right now. Aren't we."

"Yeah... If you want to?"

"Let's walk together then, Attorney Kim." Sunghoon fell into step beside him, grin tucked half-visible above the scarf.

Fansigns were maybe Sunoo's favorite idol-event. Aside from the raw dopamine hit from winning the raffle, who wouldn't want to talk to their favorite idols? Perhaps get looked at and remembered even for the short minutes it lasted?

There were shortcuts, obviously. Such as buying albums in bulk to stack the odds, which Sunoo considered too much of a gamble than he could stomach. Or he could've paid for a guaranteed slot from a sketchy third party. Everything had a price if you were willing to pay it, but it wouldn't have felt the same as actually winning it.

When his turn came, he scooted into the seat across from Sunghoon and patted down his jacket pockets for the questions sticky note. He also checked the album sleeve. Where did it go—

Sunghoon opened the album and uncapped his pen. "Why? Nervous?"

"I'm not."

He gave up on the search and blurted out the first thing that came to mind. He should at least ask something he could post on his account. "Can you tell me anything about the next album?"

Sunghoon reached across and laced their fingers—he was getting full fansign treatment, apparently. Sunoo's eyebrows shot up.

"Jay's working on it right now. We've heard some of them. It's good. I think you'll cry when you hear it."

"Why, is he going through something?" Sunoo asked, half-joking.

Sunghoon played along. "Who knows. You should ask him after this."

"Would you ever write your own song?"

"Probably need my heart broken first. That's usually how it works."

"Have you ever get your heart broken?"

"Not really. But it could happen tonight, though. If you want."

"By who?"

"You?"

Did he hear that right? "Eh?"

"You'll post this on the account?"

"Uh... Don't know yet. We'll see." Sunoo shrugged, his heart was still doing laps somewhere. "Okay, one more. If I wanted to get close to Jay hyung, what should I do?"

Sunghoon's pen paused over the album cover and grinned over the question. "Aren't you even a little curious how to get close to me, though?"

A pair of white puppy ears sprouted out of Sunghoon's head, flopping slightly as he tilted in question. A tail wagged somewhere behind him. Little pink hearts bloomed and popped in the air around his stupid, perfect face.

Sunoo was completely at loss of words. He didn't understand how this had even happened or why his brain even conjure such effect. Whatever Sunghoon had just done to him, it worked. He must've genuinely lost his mind.

"Time's up," staff said gently, instructing Sunoo to move along.

His time with Jay went smoother. He'd planned exactly what he wanted to say and how he wanted to say it. He always wanted his interaction with Jay satisfying and curated down to the second, and perfect it had always been.

Sunoo held out one hand and asked if Jay would rest his chin on it. When he felt the the weight of his chin settle into his palm and, Sunoo's eyes drifted left on instinct. Sunghoon's hand wrapped around some other fan's. When Sunoo's gaze flicked back to Jay, his brain morphed Jay's face into Sunghoon's instead.

Sunoo stammered out a thank-you before his time was out and scrambled back to his seat before his time was even up.

Sunoo cooed at a picture of Jay mid-laugh wearing a pair of cat paws, fingers pinching the air in front of the screen like he could actually reach his cheek. "Awwww. So cute."

He clicked next. Sunghoon. He clicked next again. Sunghoon. Next. Sunghoon. Next. Sunghoon.

It took a long stretch of clicking before he realized it seemed to be going on forever. He clicked back and he scrolled down to search the next picture with Jay on the thumbnail but the rest of the pictures were Sunghoon's with puppy ears headband.

Sunoo shoved back from the desk so hard his chair rolled clean across the room.

He grabbed his head in horror. "What the hell is wrong with me..."

Ticketing was its own hell. Sunoo missed the window by maybe two seconds and all the desired seats were all sold out. By the time he refreshed his timeline, Twitter was already flooded with scalpers selling marked up tickets by three—even four times the price.

He set up a meet with one of them anyway. Not because he needed to, but because people like this wouldn't stop unless taught a lesson.

Thankfully he knew a Lee Wonhee who had the concert ticket midas touch and managed to secure extra tickets for him.

"Here's your ticket." She handed it over clamped between two fingers. "But why are we meeting up with a ticket seller? You got another friend going?"

"No. Can you film me buying the ticket?"

"I don't know why you would do that but... sure?"

They met the guy at the agreed spot, Exit 4 Hongik University Station. Sunoo made him show the ticket first before handing over the money envelope.

Toy money, actually. With a dog face printed on the front and "FOR PLAY USE ONLY" along the bottom. The scalper didn't look too happy with it.

"Are you fucking joking? Hey, student. If you want to scam me out of the ticket try harder—"

"Selling crazy marked up tickets is a violation of consumer rights, sir." Sunoo pointed to Wonhee who stood 5 meters away from them. "We have everything on record. Let's settle this at the police station."

The guy bolted.

"WONHEE, WE HAVE TO CHASE HIM—"

She ran right behind him with her phone, gasping for air between strides. "OPPA, ARE YOU A COP?"

"NO! I'M A LAWYER!" Sunoo shouted back. "STOP RIGHT THERE! UNDER ARTICLE 3, PARAGRAPH 2, CLAUSE 4 OF THE MISDEMEANOR PUNISHMENT ACT—RESELLING TICKETS AT AN INFLATED PRICE IS PUNISHABLE BY A FINE OF UP TO 200,000 WON OR DETENTION!"

"Did you remember Jay's high notes? I actually got chills—"

"I KNOW! I can't believe we got Sunghoon's dance break solo—" Wonhee mimed it with her whole arm, nearly hitting a stranger. "He was so, so, so, SOOOO COOL!"

"Whoa, the post concert depression is going to be really bad for me. My throat is really sore."

"Oppa, are you going to the Japan stops?"

Sunoo was suddenly sad. "Maybe? I need to see if my PTO get approved."

"I still can't believe you're a lawyer... that was so cool. Under article bla bla bla is selling tickets at a high price than normal is a crime!"

"That's not how I said it."

Back at home and freshly showered, he planned to rewatch all his fancams all night in bed and maybe cry a little because watching handsome hardworking men make him cry.

The doorbell rang and he called out, "Did someone order delivery?"

When no one answered. Sunoo padded over and opened the door himself.

"Sunghoon-ssi? How did you know where I live?"

Sunghoon stood before him. Hair and jacket soaked through the shoulders from the rain.

"Riki let me know."

"Riki?"

"I came to apologize." Sunghoon stepped past him into the entryway and tugged his shirt off. "Do you mind if I take my shirt off? I got rained on."

"Wait—hold on, before you do anything—"

A pan clattered against the kitchen floor. Wonhee stood frozen mid-drop, spoon still hovering where the pan used to be and his jaw was somewhere on the floor.

"Sunghoon… oppa? Is this… real?"

"Wonhee, I'm sorry—I'll explain later but I have to talk to him now."

Sunoo grabbed Sunghoon's hand and pulled him toward his bedroom.

"B—but, wait! How did you know Sunghoon oppa? That's Sunghoon oppa, right? That's not—"

Sunoo shut the door behind them cutting her off mid-spiral. It got awkward real quick, however. Sunghoon stood just past the doorway, visibly stunned into silence at the amount of ENHYPEN merchandises cluttering the bedroom.

"Sorry about her," Sunoo muttered. "She's, um. Also a fan."

"Yeah, I could see."

"So... What brings you here?"

"I don't know what I did." Sunghoon dragged a hand through his damp hair. "But I did something, and you've been avoiding me since, and I need you to just tell me what it is."

"I've been... avoiding you?"

"It's fine. I deserve it, whatever it was. Go ahead, hit me if it'll make you feel better."

"...What? No. Okay. Sure. But I told you I was busy with work if it's about not texting you back." Sunoo was honestly still a bit lost. "I'll throw your shirt in the dryer and then you can head home."

"I just got here and you're already kicking me out? Are you still mad at me?"

"What are you even talking about right now."

"It's just—" Sunghoon exhaled, frustrated with himself. "You stopped replying to texts. You haven't shown up to a single event in weeks. You stopped posting. I thought maybe I did something or said something wrong."

Sunoo's confusion cracked into disbelief, then a laugh. "Sunghoon-ssi. I have a job."

"...I know that?"

"Do you know how many active cases I'm running right now?"

"...Five?"

"Fifty-one."

Sunghoon opened his mouth and nodded like something clicked but not quite yet. "But you've always showed up to everything. I figured—"

"Sometimes I take a break from fan stuff for months when work gets bad. Especially when I have annual billable hours to catch up." Sunoo rubbed his eyes. "I use every single vacation day and every free hour I have left on ENHYPEN. There was just no time left."

Sunghoon scratched the back of his neck, looking almost sheepish. "That's… kind of anticlimactic, actually."

"What did you think it was?"

"Honestly? I'm not sure."

"You came all the way here to see me. There's gotta be something you want to say. Just say it."

Sunghoon huffed a small laugh and turned, taking in the wall again—every single item in the room, only Jay. "What if I asked you to try being a little more interested in me instead?"

Sunoo wheezed. "Like buying your merch?"

"Like you do Jay—no, more than Jay."

He wasn't looking at Sunoo anymore, just at the wall, hands shoved awkwardly into his damp pockets, weight rocking slightly from foot to foot.

"I don't— I mean, I'm not saying it right." He exhaled, frustrated at himself, and tried again. "I say stuff like this on stage all the time. I love you, you're my only one, all of it is usually written down for me, mostly. I know how to say it. I don't actually know how to say it when it's— when I mean it. This is embarrassing."

He laughed a little helpless and scratched his eyebrow.

"Everything about me is out there already. Anyone can look it up. But I don't know anything about you, except that you're a busy lawyer with a shrine to my bandmate in your bedroom. And I want to know more. I want to know your birthday, your favorite things, what makes you mad, what makes you cry. I want you to be curious about me the way I am curious about you."

He absentmindedly straightened one of the Jay photocards on the desk that had gone slightly crooked, just to have something to do with his hand.

"This is my first time asking someone to look at me. Don't make fun of me."

"Sunghoon-ssi."

"Yes?"

"Do you want to kiss?"

Sunghoon froze right up until Sunoo backed him toward the desk, right into the middle of the Jay shrine, stepped between his legs, and pulled him in by the face.

When Sunoo's lips brushed his, Sunghoon went rigid. His brain was working slower than usual and it was glitching trying to figure out what was happening. But Sunoo was so small, his small hands were holding his face, his small face was tilted against him, his small waist—Sunghoon couldn't miss out holding it. He was gripping on it tightly.

Sunoo pulled back an inch to breathe, Sunghoon chased him back immediately before the air between them had time to go cold. He was smiling into it—Sunoo could feel it against his own mouth, Sunghoon's stupid, helpless grin—and it made Sunoo smile too that their teeth grazed by accident.

They broke apart again, foreheads resting together. Sunghoon pressed one small peck to the corner of Sunoo's mouth, then another—softer on the lips.

Sunoo huffed a laugh and leaned back in. Sunghoon met him halfway, hand sliding up to cup the back of his neck.

When they finally separated for real, Sunghoon didn't let go of his waist.

"Attorney Kim. Are you catching feelings for me?"

He smiled a little wrecked against Sunghoon's mouth. "Objection. Leading."

"Overruled."

Wonhee stared at the door and pressed her ear again on it. "What are they doing inside, why can't I hear anything?"

"Attorney Kim!"

Sunghoon showed up unannounced at Jeon & Kang with sunglasses perched on his nose. He spotted Sunoo down the hall and waved, ignoring the four paralegals who all turned to look.

Sunoo abandoned the case file mid-hand-off on some poor paralegal's desk and half-jogged down the hallway, hissing under his breath. "Ssshhshhshhhh."

He pulled Sunghoon into his office and yanked the blinds shut.

"What are you doing here?!"

"Finishing what I started yesterday." Sunghoon backed him up until his knees hit the chair and he dropped into it, then braced both hands on the armrests and kissed him.

Sunoo yelped and shoved him back by the shoulders. "Are you insane? I'm at work—"

Knock. Knock.

The door opened before Sunoo could even answer it. He shoved Sunghoon under the desk in panicked attempt and scrambled to block the view.

It was Seokmin, briefcase still in hand, fresh off a courthouse run. "Attorney Kim! I heard you won the Lim Corp case—"

"Let's talk outside." Sunoo herded him back into the hallway, pulling the door shut behind them with a soft click. "Sorry, it's, um—my dog."

"You brought your dog?! Can I see him?"

"No—no, no, he's not really friendly with strangers. I picked him up from the vet, my friend's coming to get him soon."

"Ah, gotcha." Seokmin nodded, easily satisfied. "Anyway—congrats on Lim Corp. Big win."

"Thank you, ha—ha." Sunoo was slowly backing toward his door, hand on the knob. "I should get back before he chews on something he shouldn't."

"Oh, sure, sure. Go, go."

Sunoo shut the door and Sunghoon was sitting in his chair.

"Woof."

"Don't." Sunoo crossed the room anyway, and Sunghoon caught his wrist and pulled him down sideways onto his lap.

"I'm a reward-motivated dog." Sunghoon pressed a kiss to the side of his neck. "If you want good behavior, you have to give me a good reward."

Sunoo huffed, but looped an arm around his neck anyway, unable to keep the smile off his own face. He pressed a quick peck to Sunghoon's cheek, then another to the corner of his mouth, laughing softly between kisses that kept landing slightly off-target from how much they were both grinning.

"Sunghoon hyung, do you… want to come over tonight?"

"I can't believe every time I'm kissing you at your place, Park Jongseong is staring right at me from three different angles."

Sunghoon had one arm under Sunoo's neck, the other tracing lazy circles against his back, limbs tangled in bed.

"Then don't look at him." Sunoo cupped Sunghoon's face and turned it back toward his own. "Just look at me, hyung."

Sunghoon let Sunoo do whatever he wanted to him, but the pout didn't quite leave. "Could you put my posters up somewhere?"

"No." A small kiss to the tip of his nose like a consolation prize. "I already have your picture, though."

"Where?"

Sunoo reached blindly over Sunghoon's shoulder to the nightstand, patted around until he found his phone, and unlocked it—showing off the picture of them together on his lockscreen.

Sunghoon cupped his mouth. "This is crazy…." CRAZY CUTE. Sunghoon felt like flying.

"It'd be weird if I had, like, your photocards or a little doll of you sitting on my shelf." Sunoo tucked his phone away and nuzzled into the crook of Sunghoon's neck, suddenly a little bashful. "That just makes me a fan again, right? But this lockscreen thing, that's just what people do when they're dating. Right? Normal couple stuff."

"Can you at least put a picture of us somewhere? In your room. Anywhere visible."

Sunoo tilted his head, then broke into a small grin. "Can you get Jay-ssi to sign my photocard first?"

Sunghoon groaned, dropping his forehead against Sunoo's shoulder in despair. "I guess I'm selling my own bandmate's autograph for a kiss."

Sunoo kissed the top of his head. "Thank you, hyung."

"And I will do it again."

The paralegal knocked once and stepped in. "Attorney Kim, the ruling for the ENHYPEN's stalking case just came in. You won."

Sunoo smiled. "Thank you."

"Also, there's a package for you."

She came in and put the box on the corner of his desk. Sunoo waited until she left to open the box—expecting nothing in particular. Maybe a photocard order he'd forgotten about.

He tore the tape and opened the flaps. Photocards, dozens of them, as expected. But the face on the papers were Sunghoon of different eras. From his debut up to the most recent ones. His eyes crinkled as he chuckled.
