Chapter Text

the heavy rain poured down from the dimly lit city skies, hammering on warabi’s umbrella, the sounds of his music could be heard from through their earbuds, if the rain wasn’t so heavy that is. warabi focused on one thing and one thing only, getting home. after a long day at their cashier part-time job, which he juggled inbetween parties and his passion, music.

warabi had their eyes fixed to the ground, fascinated but frightened at the rain hammering the asphalt below. that was until he felt a hard thud and found himself laying on the floor, with an unusually recognisable figure crouching in front of them

“holy crap dude are you okay? i was totally not looking where i was going, but seriously are you alright?” the purple haired inkling held out his abnormally large hand out towards warabi, who was still, on the floor. they suddenly realised who that inkling was, ikkan shoyu, the bassist from squid squad.

“holy shit..” warabi thought, what was someone as famous as him doing in a place like this? i mean, it was inkopolis. but in a dodgy back alleyway with nothing but trash on the floor. warabi would have assumed that because squid squad is the most popular group right now,(excluding the squid sisters of course) ikkan would have been in his “luxury high rise apartment” with the rest of his band, but he wasn’t, he was here..

“yeah i’m fine.” warabi spat, slowly pushing himself from the floor and walking straight past ikkan, leaving him looking shocked. warabi really wasn’t in the mood for any shit that night, but then he remembered, that was the ikkan back there..

“hey wait!” they heard from behind them, feeling a tap on their shoulder. “shouldn’t you be with those squid squad guys instead of talking to someone like me?” warabi replied bitterly. ikkan stood, looking as if his insides had just been flipped upside down inside of him, “oh uh well the thing is," he stammered, "i sort of left squid squad…” ikkan couldn’t believe that those words had actually left his mouth, and the first person he told was some random angry twink in the street? okay ikkan, maybe that was a bit far

warabi stood staring at the man who was once his teenage celebrity crush in shock. “oh uh, good for you? i guess?” warabi could not be assed with anymore of this bullshit. “i mean kind of, they were all awful to me, but now i have nowhere to stay so uh, i’m sort of just stuck on the streets for now” ikkan let out a nervous laugh which warabi couldn’t tell whether was out of pain or humour, they felt a sort of pity for ikkan, it was kind of obvious that he was begging for somewhere to stay.

a lightbulb flickered in warabi’s head “hey, i know i’ve been kind of a dick i’ve just been having a bad day. but you know, i have a couch in my apartment that you could camp on for a while, it’s not like anyone else is going to use it” ikkan’s face lit up at the sound of this “yeah, i mean totally if you’re okay with it and like if you are comfortable-“ ikkan was cut off. “ikkan, it’s fine, i knew i would pick up a couch surfer at some point” warabi added a soft laugh to the end of his sentence, making ikkan blush a tad, he was known for stuff like this though, he couldn’t even walk up the stairs without becoming red in the face, that's just how he was.

after taking a closer look at warabi ikkan finally clicked, “oh my god it’s you! warabi isn’t it, the one with the super-fucking-famous parents, right?” he yelled. “i mean i’m more than just my parents though, i make music too believe it or not, Mr squid squad” ikkan was growing on warabi now. “yeah my bad, i guess you are just too niche for my taste” he said, choking out a laugh

———————————————

ikkan and warabi finally reached the apartment block where warabi spent their nights, the outside looked just like any other inkopolis house, with the signature white grainy walls and vines growing from the sides. the building was placed on a regular street which was just off from where the pair had met in the dark alleyway. although the apartment block was blended in to the rest of the street, it was the only one that was relatively large.

the two walked up the cold, littered stairs, passing what felt like hundreds of doors as they went along. “ah! here we are” warabi chirped. ikkan sighed, surprisingly as he was quite fit, he seemed to be rather out of breath. warabi slotted the keys into the doorhandle and with a clink and crack, the door opened revealing a rather messy apartment

as ikkan walked into the room standing next to the couch he would be living on for the next few months, warabi still stood on the doorstep, taking off their sopping wet coat and boots. “hey, i’ll get you a pillow and sort out your makeshift bed and shit. you can just look around or get a snack or whatever, i don’t mind” warabi hinted.

on that note, ikkan placed his bass bag and jacket on the floor next to the couch and started to wander around. the room closest to the door was the bathroom, which had a shower, toilet and sink. it was just like any other bathroom, albeit with a bit of mould and mess.

the next room was infact warabi’s bedroom. there was a double bed in the corner which hadn’t been made, that also explains the hundreds of clothes that had been threw on the floor. considering this guy had famous actors for parents they sure didn’t know how to keep a room clean. the walls were painted a dark grey and were adorned with band posters and tapestries of the like. there was also a collection of empty energy drink cans on their bedside table. suddenly a yell came from the living room, “ikkan! its ready!”. he and almost forgotten what he was doing as he was too busy being nosy.

ikkan walked out of warabi's bedroom and back into the living room, where warabi had already set up his bed for the night. the couch had been pulled out into a “double bed”  (if you could even call it that) with a duvet and pillows. “i know it’s not much but it’s the least i could do, seeing as you were practically begging on your knees to live with me, am I just that awesome ikkan?" warabi joked. “you’re acting like i didn’t push you to the ground and beg to stay at your house, warabi” ikkan sneered..

"hey dude im going to try and sleep now, im usually a late-to-rise type of guy, so dont wait up in the morning if you are hungry, theres some bread in the cupboard so you can make toast, goodnight man." warabi muttered, it was quite late now, maybe about half two? ikkan was waiting for warabi to go back to their room, he didnt really know how to ask him to leave without it being awkward, so he forced himself to stay awake, even if he had dozed off once or twice.

"uh, goodnight!" ikkan replied, he had only had his head on his pillow for just under five minutes before he fell asleep...
