Chapter Text
“C’mon guys!”
An called from the other side of the grassy field to Mizuki and Rui, who were still making their way towards her
.
They had been at a nearby diner until they paid and Mizuki began to chase An. An had run up a flight of stairs and into a clearing at the edge of town. She spread her arms out and flopped onto the grass as Mizuki sprinted and landed beside her while Rui was still walking over to them, and eventually plopped down with the girls.
The three stared upwards searching for the little stars that peppered the dark sky, they were still close to the city, afterall.
“The only question is what to do now fufu~” asked the tallest.
Multiple beats of silence passed as they pondered over potential activities.
“How about truth or dare?”the starry-haired girl asked.
Mizuki and Rui agreed.
“Who goes first then?” Rui inquired.
“Rock paper scissors?”
“Sure”
The teens all threw their hands and… Rui lost.
“So… truth or dare?”
“Dare” was Rui’s response. The two girls huddled as they thought of a fitting challenge. After much debate a dare was chosen.
“My search history? Sure.”
And so Mizuki and An began to scroll through Rui’s search history.
“Hey! This is just mechanical stuff!” An exclaimed. They continued to look.
“And…WHAT?! ‘Would someone die if shot thirteen feet in the air?!’”
“I need to keep my troupemates safe~”
An facepalmed. They played rock paper scissors once more to determine the next victim. This time however Mizuki lost.
“Dare. Gimme something good”
The other two huddled, as Mizuki and An had done before. An seemed to point somewhere, Rui nodded, and they walked back over to Mizuki, as mischievous expressions spread onto their faces.
“Watcha got for me, O Council of Dares?” Mizuki teased.
“See that cave over there?”
“Yes~”
“Check it out.”
“That’s it? Okay~”
Mizuki enjoyed haunted houses, thrills, and all the like. This should be fine. Right?

“Call me if I don’t come back after thirty minutes” was the last sentence Mizuki told her friends before entering the small cave. Her phone’s battery was at fifty two percent and on battery saver so it should last her through the night until she goes home and charges it. The bright flashlight of her phone lit up the grotto.
The dirt was packed down, as if this passage had been traversed many times over the years. It was decently short, forcing Mizuki to crouch down slightly.
This is a really long cave…
She continued to walk throught the grotto until she heard a faint noise.
Mizuki stopped and listened. It sounded like humming.
…It’s beautiful
It was quite a nice melody. As if nostalgic, hinting at a hidden sorrow, one might call it bittersweet.
As she progressed the soft noise became less faint.
“No… something is wrong.”
Mizuki could have jumped at the noise. The voice sounded hoarse, as if the person rarely spoke.
Mizuki checked her pockets for potential things she could use for defense. She found her keyring, adorned with cute keychains, and decided it would do. She put each key inbetween her fingers and balled her fist, holding it out as a shoddy form of protection.
Why was she doing this? She was in a dark cave approaching a stranger.
But still, I want to know more about that song
Mizuki had never heard more intriguing of a melody.
Heh. Enanan would go insane if she heard about this.
Mizuki was pretty close to Ena, although the latter may deny it. They see eachother during the rare occasion in which they are both at school, albeit they usually talk online.
She no longer had to strain her ears to hear the humming. Mizuki breathed deeply and held her fist with a shaking arm.
Mizuki steeled herself for whatever was to come.

Mizuki could never have guessed what she saw next.
The source of the humming was a small, frail girl with long, light tangled hair and blue, deep eyes. She wore a dark blue cloak over a simple dress that went a little further than her feet. At the bottom there was a light crust of dirt, as if it had caught dirt and mud many times. She had concerningly pale skin but despite it all…
She was gorgeous
Her eyes were still closed as she continued to hum until she opened them.
“No..” She scowled.
The girl reached for a small, handcarved, wooden harp that lay beside her on the ground. However, she looked up only to be met with pink eyes.
“Ah!” The girl backed towards the wall in fear, without moving her gaze from the outsider in front of her.
“Sorry! I must’ve given you a scare!”
The girl backed away from Mizuki’s attempt at friendliness.
“I’m Mizuki Akiyama! What’s your name?”
Wow. She sounded like she was comforting a lost child.
“! Um.. I am Kanade Yoisaki. A pleasure to meet you” The gi-Kanade answered.
“So… Do you live here?” Mizuki asked, trying not to sound judgemental.
Kanade simply nodded, before answering: “My father is in another cave across the field.” Mizuki looked toward where Kanade pointed. “I must remain here in order to care for him.”
“I don’t mean to pry, but is there a reason you don’t live together?”
Kanade began to fidget with her hands.
“There was an incident a couple years ago and…a-and he…” Kanade managed.
“I’m sorry for asking. I didn’t mean to bring those memories back”
“No” She steeled herself and seemed more determined. “He does not remember me. So it is better for me to just bring him food and all”
“I’m really sorry. If you dont mind me asking, how long has it been?”
“If it is 1732 then… It has been around a c-couple years.” Kanade looked up at Mizuki.
“HUH?!” Was all Mizuki could offer as a response.
After calming down Mizuki mustered: “It’s…not seventeen thirty two.”
“Then-then what year is it?” Kanade asked.
“...2026”
“What?!”
Even Kanade’s exclamations are quiet. Cute
Immediatly, scarlet creeped up to Mizuki’s face. Kanade didn’t notice, too wrapped up in shock.
After pulling herself together Mizuki asked “You’re not human are you?”
Kanade sighed. “You are correct. I am a vampire . My family was attacked because of me, causing my father’s amnesia and my mother’s…” Tears pricking at her eyes.
Mizuki simply stared at her.
“Why are you not running?”
“Why would I? So what if you’re a vampire. You haven’t tried to kill me or anything.”
Mizuki sat across from Kanade, wiping the start of a tear from her eyes.
“That's terrible... Would it be okay if I stayed?”
“That would be great, thank you” Kanade softly smiled.
I want to make her smile again.
They talked for a while longer, about modern day and eachothers lives.
The two simplely enjoyed the good company.

“Hmm… It’s been a while. Should we call her?” Rui asked, for it had already been twenty minutes.
“Yeah, That’s a good idea”
An dialed Mizuki’s number and waited for a reply. She was met with silence until Mizuki’s voicemail filled the quiet.
She left a short message asking if Mizuki was okay then sighed.
“We should look for her,” Rui suggested.
An nodded and they walked towards the grotto.
As they began to walk through the cave Rui and An cupped their hands around their mouths to yell louder.
They marched through, hollering for Mizuki.
.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀
Mizuki heard a faint hollering. As it got louder she checked the time on her phone.
Crap
It had been thirty minutes and she had three missed calls.
“Sorry Kanade, I gotta go”
“Will you come back?”
Mizuki smiled “Of course!” and ran towards her friends, waving and grinning to Kanade.
.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀.𓈒𓂂𓏲܀
“Why’d ya stay so long?” An inquired.
“Oh, I just… saw some really cool mushrooms,” Mizuki smiled softly.
Rui and An looked at Mizuki with raised eyebrows, but decided they’d just believe her for now.
The teens walked home filling the late silence with chatter.
I’ll be back, Kanade, I’ll make sure of it.
