Chapter Text
"Miss Sakura, because of theft, I'm sentencing you to 300 hours of community service for stealing."
"Seriously! That'll take like an entire year to do. Plus I really only stole an apple."
"Actually, it will only take about two to three months to complete, and you stole a whole bag of apples. You could be in jail or pay a hefty fine, but since you're a juvenile and broke-"
"Hey!"
"-you are very lucky to only be doing community service for this."
Kyoko glared at the officer sitting in front of her. She was sitting in a police car headed towards somewhere close to hell. What annoyed her even more was that the officer was seemingly cheerful about the situation.
"So where're we goin', cop?"
"Mitakihara General Hospital"
"And what exactly am I going there for?"
"We figured that you could benefit from helping others at the hospital. "
Great. I'm going to spend the next few months helping old, grumpy people eat their stupid hospital food.
"I also talked to the hospital, and they agreed to let you stay at one of their empty rooms and eat hospital food, free of cost! Isn't that nice?" asked the officer. The officer smiled expectantly at Kyoko in the rearview mirror who answered with a scowl.
"Grrr" replied her stomach.
Great, now her stomach was complaining at her. As if she didn't have enough problems already. Anger bubbled up inside Kyoko. From all the problems of today, which consisted of having no food and being arrested she was now she was hungry and angry. Hangry. Especially since she hadn't had the chance to eat those beautiful, juicy apples she was so close to stealing.
The crinkling of a paper bag snapped Kyoko out of her thoughts. She saw that the officer had reached into a brown paper bag and was pulling out a shiny apple. She stared expectantly at the officer, hoping that he would spare some food for a starving child. Instead, he proceeded to bite into the red fruit with satisfaction.
Kyoko could not believe that this police officer, protector of justice and all that came along with it, had the audacity to eat one of the apples she had "stolen" in front of her very eyes. Kyoko picked at the fabric on the car seats in an effort to prevent herself from murdering the officer.
Please let this hospital's food not suck.

The first thing that Kyoko did after arriving at the hospital was look for food.
She knew exactly where the kitchen was because the strong smell of delicious
curry overpowered the scent of disinfectants.
Kyoko made a mad dash towards the kitchen.
She peeked into the kitchen.
No one
Perfect
She found a bowl of fruits in the kitchen with three apples among the assortment of fruit.
Technically I'm going to work here, so this technically isn't stealing. Kyoko thought as she grabbed two and stuffed one in her mouth.
"Hey! Get out of the kitchen! That's for the patients!" screeched an angry cook with blonde pigtails. She pointed her wooden spoon directly at Kyoko's throat.
Where did she come from?
"They've got plenty, especially since you're already making curry for them," Kyoko pointed out.
"They won't if you keep eating their food!"
Kyoko was about to make a dash for the door, but a taller girl walked up and smiled at her. She had brown hair tied up in a ponytail with a yellow bow and warm orange-brown eyes. She was wearing an apron with an orange pig in the middle.
"Felicia this is Kyoko, the volunteer. Remember?" said the brown-haired one to who Kyoko assumed was Felicia.
"Of course, the apple thief," mumbled Felicia
"I'm Tsuruno!" the brunette cheerfully exclaimed.
"And this little gremlin here is Felicia," continued Tsuruno while playfully ruffling the blonde's hair.
Felicia looked away and blushed, completely embarrassed. Kyoko smirked at this.
She was about to say something to Tsuruno, but her hospital guide, Mami, found her and sighed.
"Miss Sakura... would you mind explaining what you're doing in the kitchen?"
"I wah hungy," said Kyoko while stuffing her mouth with a second apple.
"Excuse us. Miss Sakura walked in here without my permission. I really should have kept a better eye on her. I was just about to show her to her patient," Mami calmly told the two cooks.
"MY PATIENT! I'm not even a certified nurse! What use would I be to any patient."
"You'll be of plenty of use to this patient in particular," said Mami.
"Can't I just help in the kitchen with these guys?" Kyoko pleaded.
"I'm sure these girls are able to handle the cooking right?"
Tsuruno and Felicia nodded in unison much to Kyoko's dismay.
"Can't I at least... taste test food?" Kyoko asked hopefully.
"I'm so sorry Kyoko, but our two talented chefs are able to taste test their food already." replied Mami as she dragged a dejected Kyoko out of the kitchen.
As Mami dragged Kyoko out of the room she continued talking.
"There's this one patient we have that is very stubborn, and we think an attitude like yours could help her."
