Work Text:
On the shores of Birth Island in 1970, a tragedy of nature had taken place; a pod of sperm whales had beached ashore. As the leviathans lay dead and dying, the charnel stench seeped into the water and air, drawing in thousands of scavenging seabirds. It also drew the attention of someone from the depths. His sense of smell titillated by the odor of decaying flesh, Gezora swam towards the scent. Reaching the beach, Gezora crawled out of the water and walked towards the mass of dying whale meat.
“Hm… They will do as substance.”
Thousands of seabirds scattered as Gezora pulls handfuls of chunks of the whale meat off the dying animals and began to feed.
Meanwhile, deep in the interior of Birth Island, the scent of dying whales reached the nostrils of another Kaiju. Rousing from his slumber on an outcropping of rocks, Baragon shifts in anticipation, as the smell of whale meat awaited him. Slowly standing up, Baragon lazily stretched himself and lumbered towards the scent. When Baragon climbed over the crest of the hill that led to the enticing scent, he then noticed that he was not the only one who had followed the smell as He spots Gezora feasting upon the whales.
“Tch. I will have to fight for this feast…”
Driven by ferocity and hunger, Baragon shouts a challenge at Gezora who was feasting upon the dead whales and charged at the mollusk Kaiju.
“Fight me! Those whales will belong to me!!” “!?”
Gezora, startled by the sudden voice, turned to see who it came from. Noticing Baragon charging towards him, he likewise began to charge, determined to protect his meal from the newcomer.
“How dare you interrupt my meal, peasant!”
Once Baragon was within range, He used his powerful leg muscles to leap into the air.
“!”
Gezora was stunned at the sight as Baragon landed on top of him, tackling Gezora into the ground then began battering blows upon Gezora. However, Gezora recovered quickly and wraps his tendrils around Baragon.
“!”
Exerting his strength, Gezora constricts Baragon with his freezing touch.
“Nrgh!! (So cold!)”
Baragon screams out in pain as the numbing cold of his foe’s touch slowly leached the life-giving heat from his own body. Baragon struggled to break free, but the strength of Gezora, along with the numbing cold, made it impossible.
“Hmhmhm… Already regretting the idea of challenging me?”
Gezora tightened his tentacles around Baragon, making it harder for him to breathe and drawing more heat from off his body.
“(Must break free!)”
Baragon, realizing how much trouble he was in, opened his mouth and fired his Magma Heat Ray. The searing heat struck Gezora, causing his flesh to blister and crack.
“Aghh!!!”
Reflexively, Gezora releases Baragon as He rubs the burnt patch of flesh in an attempt to stop the pain. Landing back onto his feet, Baragon took the opportunity to leap away. With distance between them, Baragon turns to face Gezora, who had stopped slapping the burnt patch of flesh and directed his attention back onto Baragon.
“How dare you harm me!”
Crouching himself low to the ground, Baragon glares at Gezora.
“No more pain will come your way if you just walk away now and allow me to have those whales…” “Never!”
Gezora then moves towards Baragon, His tendrils lashing out at him. Baragon, not wanting to get caught in his foe’s tendrils again, rapidly tunneled underground with his burrowing capability. Gezora reached Baragon only seconds after he had completely disappeared underground.
“!”
Gezora, believing that he had driven Baragon away, returned to the dying whales and walked back towards them.
“Hmph. Insolent cretin.”
Gezora then resumed feeding; because of this, he failed to notice the small furrow in the ground that was heading towards him. Suddenly, Half of Baragon’s body emerged from under the sand and fired his Magma heat ray at Gezora. Gezora was taken aback, completely off-guard as the heat beam charred another patch of his flesh.
“Ack!!!”
Gezora groaned in pain then quickly turns towards the source, but Baragon had already retreated back underground.
“?”
Gezora began to wander about, his eyes looking about for the one that dared harmed him. Baragon, sensing Gezora pass over him, waited till his foe was some distance away. Baragon then poked himself through the sand again and shot Gezora with his Magma heat ray again.
“Nrgh!!!”
Gezora turned just in time to see Baragon’s head duck under the sand. Somewhere in his brain, Gezora made the connection to the subterranean Kaiju and the heat-induced agony. Gezora walked towards the water, leaving his meal open. Once under the surface of the water, Gezora plopped in the cold shores and covering himself with sand, concealing himself. Now, he had to wait.
“…”
Baragon, having sensed Gezora slipping into the water, emerged from the safety of the underground and surveyed the beach. Gezora was nowhere to be seen, and the feast of whale meat was his for the taking.
“…Heh. Serves him right.”
Approaching the whale carcasses, Baragon picked up a large chunk in his hands and began to feast on it.
“(Good.)”
Seeing Baragon distracted by the whales, Gezora launches his tentacle-like arms from the water.
“!!?”
Baragon was caught by surprise as Gezora’s arms wrapped around his legs and managed to trip him up onto his stomach.
“Hmhm… Come with me, peasant.”
Pleased by his ambush, Gezora tugged on Baragon, trying to drag him into the water, where he would have the advantage.
“N-No!!”
Baragon tries to twist over his own body to reach the tentacles that slowly dragged him into the watery depths. As he was struggling, Baragon manages to roll onto his back and curled his upper body up. Now within reach of the tentacles grabbing him, Baragon savagely tears at them even biting upon one of them. Below the water, Gezora winced in pain, releasing his grip on Baragon and withdrawing his tentacles into the water.
“Ngh! (You will drown by the might of Gezora!)”
Baragon quickly rolls back onto his feet and bombarded the water with Magma heat rays, trying to drive his enemy out into the open. Gezora, shielded by the water, swam away from where Baragon was firing, instead moving to flank his right side.
After a little while, Baragon stopped firing and looked around to see if Gezora had emerged elsewhere.
“Come on out already! You cannot hide forever if you really want those whales…”
Soon after, Baragon reluctantly convinced himself that he had driven his foe away, Baragon then turned back towards his meal. Until Gezora suddenly rushed out of the water towards Baragon.
“!!”
Caught off guard, Baragon barely managed to move before Gezora wrapped his tentacle-like arms around Baragon and pulled him into his freezing grip.
“Nrghhh!!!”
Baragon, driven berserk from the icy pain of Gezora’s touch, ferociously battered and swiped at his foe. This time, Gezora refused to let go, and instead slowly begun to drag Baragon back towards the water.
“!” “You will not...escape this time!”
Baragon came to the realization that he would drown if Gezora managed to get him underwater. He thrashed about more furiously than before, determined to break free. As Gezora almost reached the edge of the water, Baragon noticed a patch of charred flesh from one of his earlier magma heat rays.
“! (It is do or die now!)”
Taking a desperate gamble, Baragon thrust his hands into the blistered flesh of Gezora. Throwing his hands back with all of his might, Baragon tore the hardened flesh free, revealing a hole to the internal organs of his foe.
“!!!”
Gezora shrieked in pain, constricting down tighter upon Baragon. Baragon’s vision began to swim as his body was leached of its heat. Hearing the sound of water below his enemy, Baragon panicked as time was almost up. Opening his mouth as it and his hands glinted a fiery orange, Baragon stuck clings himself onto the torn flesh of Gezora and fired full blasts of his Magma Heat Ray.
“!!!!”
Inside Gezora, there was a hideous burst of steam, the sickening sound of rupturing organs. A hellacious scream from Gezora resounded as he was cooked from the inside by his foe’s attack. As a stream of liquefied viscera burst from Gezora’s siphon, Gezora’s grip slackened and he then collapsed into the water.
Baragon slowly pulled himself free of his deceased foe, shaking himself rapidly side to side, blood and organ bits splattering everywhere off his hands.
“Ewww… Disgusting. But, What is done is done.”
Backing off of Gezora, Baragon grabbed his fallen enemy’s tentacles and slowly dragged him onto the beach. Once he had brought Gezora’s carcass to the sandy shore, out of disgusted curiosity, Baragon began to tear great chunks of Gezora’s cooked flesh off and consume them.
Several hours later, after feasting on most of his foe’s body and bits of the whales, Baragon fell onto his back on the warm sand and was about to fall asleep with pure content… until a deep voice was heard nearby.
“Fighting out of pure survival and to just eat is quite tragic, is it not?” “!?”
Baragon weakly flipped back onto his feet as He turns to face the direction of the voice. Baragon then sees that it was someone that he was sorted familiar with two years ago.
Two years prior, Baragon was among the many Kaiju that was forcibly escorted by the Government onto an island that would become known as Monster Island before being briefly mind controlled by the aliens known as Kilaaks then being used by the humans to attack the Kilaak base and King Ghidorah. Only a year later, All of Kaiju escaped their confinement Monster Island except for the certain ones that claimed it as their new home instead.
The Kaiju that stood on the beach some distance from Baragon was one of those Kaiju. The most feared and well-known Kaiju among them: The King of Kaiju, Godzilla. Godzilla calmly looked at Baragon with a light smirk.
“That was quite a bloody match. You succeeded in surviving for another day…” “…What the hell do you want?” “You seem strong enough to defend for yourself. There are others that do the same but not just out of survival… To protect their home and those who they hold dear, Such as myself. Join us on this endeavor to protect what you hold dear and you will not have to fight for your food anymore.” “…..”
This would soon lead to Baragon in becoming a member of the faction of earth’s Kaiju that would become known as the ‘Earth Defenders’.
