Chapter Text
What most people don’t realize is that I have severe pain in my legs from something I did in middle school. And so when I’m not at school or training I used forearm crutches or a cane depending on the day to help take some of the pressure off.
So I wasn’t sure what reaction I was expecting when they saw me with the crutches for the first time.
It was after everyone had finished unpacking and setting their rooms up. I came out of mine wearing a short sleeve t shirt. Which everyone at this point has seen the scars on my arms. It’s hard not to. They practically cover them. And I’m not ashamed of them.
As my mom always says they’re proof I survived. Even if it was only myself.
I step out of my dorm leaning on my crutches and I go down to the common room where most of the class is currently hanging out. Everyone is exhausted from moving in and decorating their dorms.
Ashoda notices first. “Omg, midoriya what happened? Is that from the training camp?” I shake my head. Her words had gotten everyone’s attention and now they’re all staring at me.
Bakugo is leaning against the wall his gaze narrowed on me. He knew what I did. He just never knew that it was this bad. Not until now. “No, um. This is from before UA. But I’m ok. It just makes it a little easier for me,” I explain quickly.
No one says anything for a moment. Not until bakugo speaks. His voice is cold and calculated. The tone he uses when he’s pissed but hasn’t acted on his anger yet. Kind of like the calm before the storm. “Is it because of me?” The whole room freezes.
“What? Kacchen, no-“
“Don’t lie to me nerd. Is it because of me?” He asks firmer this time. “Because of what I made you do?”
Uraraka and Iida trade a look. “You didn’t make me do anything. That was my choice and it didn’t take,”
The muscle in his jaw twitches. “I told you to do it,”
“I would’ve done it anyway,” I bite back. He doesn’t respond to that just scuffs.
“Ok, is someone going to tell us what you two are talking about?” Denki asks,
Bakugo just glares at me waiting for me to speak. “I threw myself off a bridge when I was in middle school. But I’m fine now,”
The room goes dead silent. “And Bakugo told you to do that?” Uraraka asks.
I look down since I don’t really have a free hand to rub the back of my neck and I don’t feel like dropping the crutch. “Um well we have a complicated relationship,” I explain. “But didn’t Ashido say something about a contest?” I Ask trying to make this less awkward.
Several of the girls light up instantly. “Oh yeah! We want to see which one of you guys have the best dorm room,” Uraraka explains and I can’t help but smile.
It could have gone worse. Then just like that everything is back to the normal chaos.
