Chapter Text
The fields of yellowing grass sway as the suns rays splay across the strands. A young boy stands just amongst the tree line, waiting, watching another as they weave the grass and flowering weeds into a crown.
Koda stands under the shade, trees swaying above him as he watches him weave. He’s never seen this boy, not in passing or anywhere near his home.
The boy’s hair was golden with a brown tint to the edges, it lay mostly unkempt, beads hanging from threads, his face was covered in patters ranging from a deep orange to a pale white that were almost symmetrical - judging by the boy’s face and the minimal skin his clothes exposed.
He seemed almost in quiet tranquillity as his face turns to the sky and the wind brushes through the longer strands of his hair.
That was until he looked over at Koda. Like he already know koda was there his head turned and their eyes met, his eyes unblinking as he watched the other.
Just as sudden the boy looked over, he vanished as the wind blew through the fields. Koda’s eyes widened and started searching for the boy that was there moments before, but came back with nothing as it seemed like the boy had become one with the grass.
Tentatively he stepped into the long grass and towards where he saw the mysterious child.
The grass was patted making a small crater as Koda steps inside, in this small crater a flower crown made from the surrounding grass and a few flowers lay in the centre like an offering. As Koda takes the crown in his hands to inspect it there is a rustle in the grass before a quiet voice speaks.
“Hello” a small voice called, Koda didn’t jump, nor did he scream, he would deny it till the end of his days he didn’t jump when the sudden greeting came. Koda’s head whipped around to come face-to-face with mitched-matched, hazel and blue eyes.
“Why do you follow me?” The boy asks, it’s a simple question but Koda is lost for words as the boy steps into the small crater he made earlier making the space smaller. After a moment Koda realised, he hadn’t answered.
“i-Im not following you” Koda huffed, crossing his arms and glared back feeling offended by getting caught so easily. “Why were you following me?” he countered satisfied that he could get a quip in, but that was short lived when the boy shot back.
“I asked you first Mr. watcher, why are you following me?” the teasing tone lilted in the boy’s voice as he asked again and with the nickname.
“I’m not a WATCHER; how dare you accuse me of such a thing!?”
“Well then why are you in my field? This is supposed to be a secluded area-”
“Your field?”
“Yes…well no, my fathers but-” the smile that had been plastered on the boy’s face, fades slightly at the knowledge, Koda suddenly feels horrible and wants that smile back.
“Well, who’s field it is doesn’t matter does it” Koda says with a bust he didn’t know he had “You’re in it aren’t you, so it must be yours” Koda stands from his sitting positions and holds out a hand to the boy.
“I’m Koda, lets be friends” Koda smiles brightly as the sun shines behind his head painting a halo around him, the boy looks up in awe before a small smile softly spreads across his face.
“You’re a bold one Mr. Not-Watcher” he takes his hand in his own with a small laugh, “My name his jasper”. With that he was pulled to his feet.
