Work Text:

Her steps echoed as they slowly plummeted in a downward pace. As weary as she was her head was screaming. A ringing noise in the back of it. She reached the bottom of the stone stairs. A dim glow casting a light against a door. Ivory hesitated, though she still put her ear close to it to hear Kantje and some lost voice she hasn’t heard before.

The murmur of a business deal from behind. The door a whisper of something made in secret for money that Kantje needed. The worry of him being followed as well as being spotted. The idea of not being followed was spouted. Though a lie through a closed door was the truth.

As Ivory was listening behind the door. The very feeling of this all felt off to her. A ringing in the back of her mind, like something was banging at her to return back. As she heard the few words.

"You did leave the gas on in the kitchen"

Before the final words were said her brain jumped and it happened automatically. She was sprinting back. She could not bare to see the one place shes felt at home burn in the ashes of debt collection. Cement turned to Asphalt concrete as her legs grew worry. The echo of the soul of her shoe.

The echo of hope that was a pray of maybe the fire could slow. The hope in her brain was a light color of white.

“So you are Ivy, right?” The voice rung, the first one who brought her where she is now. Into this new job, if it wasn’t for him and minute she wouldn’t have a place to stay.

“We Just did what we had to do back then” A mix of red and black flickered through the glare of hope. Her steps grew stronger.

“Well um, nice to meet you. Im-” The next voice echoed, Ivory already remembered the name. The one who brought her not just a place in a crowd, the feeling of home.

“Everyone loves you, don't let any silly thoughts get in your head okay?” The smell of an old wine. Ivory’s lungs felt lighter.

“Go on now. Get a move on before anyone sees ya.” A soft laugh followed her brain eased. The sense of acceptance made her feel lightened.

“Thank you for trusting me” The feeling of warmth falls over her face. She tugs herself forward. The blob of white moves from concrete to soil.

"Come on ivory, keep going" were the words replayed in her head. An empty skull that was ringing. Her rate picked up as a tugging feeling escalated.

Her skin felt on fire nevertheless she couldn't stop here. The one place she found home in, the people who helped when she was in pain. When she got attacked by the detective. They were home and she couldn't let them be drowned by a snake of democracy.
