Work Text:
It had started, the change, the night of the full moon. He really couldn't catch a break, could he? He had noticed things change, hair and nail growth, an orange glint in his eyes that had never been there before, and a hunger that grew with every minute closer to the full moon that night.
All things he had noticed in Scott the first time he had changed. But that couldn't be, he had never been scratched or bitten before and well, the only thing paranormal that had happened to him was that nogitsune nightmare a few weeks prior. This was the first week out of the hospital he'd had in months.
He needed to find Scott.

He ran, it was sunset, and he found as he ran that he didn't feel winded like he used to, he actually felt like he could run like this for miles. The cool wind flowing through his hair.
And suddenly he was at his best friend's house, he hadn't realized he was already there before the door could open.
They hadn't shared a full moon night in a while but somehow Scott knew that Stiles was outside as he opened the door. Instinct filled his mind, the instinct to welcome him in and the instinct that something was wrong.
"Hey, man." He said, there was desperation in his eyes as he shuffled inside. Like internally he was screaming i need your help.
"What's wrong?" He eyed Stiles warily.
He didn't know what to say, to say he thought the nogitsune left something behind, like a cancer, made him feel sick. It was the only thing he could think of, he wasn't blacking out anymore and he'd been in the hospital for the past few weeks! unless a wolf or…whatever, snuck into his hospital room and bit him and he somehow didn't wake up or feel it that would probably explain, oh well
"I, I think I'm changing." He felt like falling to pieces, like this was one of his hallucinations. His urge to hide, to run was growing stronger. He shifted in the hoodie he was wearing, a bead of sweat rolled down from his temple.
"What?!" Scott had half a mind to laugh his ass off, like this was some joke but something told him this was far from anything funny. Stiles was being dead serious. "okay, why do you think that?" he focused, his brain going a million miles a second.
"I don't know, I've just felt this hunger and these urges that I'm not used to. I've had increased hair and nail growth, this strip of color in my eyes that wasn't there before. I can go on but i already feel insane." He was pacing. Scott noticed, while he was talking, stubble growing on the sides of Stile's face, something that he could never do when they were growing up. He also noticed his heartbeat, it had changed. He was panicking about this so why was his heartbeat so low?
"Okay, Stiles, okay. I believe you." He stated and his friend calmed down, stopping his pacing.
"What do i do?" Emotion chipped away at his voice, it came out barely audible.
"We should call Derek." Stiles almost groaned, but he realized Derek might be the only wolf that knew what was happening to him.
"Okay." he agreed, they dialed his number.

They were in Scott's room when Derek burst through the door.
"What the hell happened."
They explained the situation, Stiles symptoms and everything, and Derek looked at them. He was calculating everything that had happened leading up to this point, and checking the different signs that were already present, before giving his thoughts.
"I think i may know what happened." He spoke, carefully, like he was treading dangerous waters.
"What?" Stiles said breathlessly, pain had started to creep into his legs like bad cramps after a game, dull and achy. He pulled his legs up to his chest where he sat on the floor, looking up at Derek.
Derek's heart caught in his throat, but he persisted.
"I think that nogitsune, when we exercised it, left some kind of mark on you." He took a breath, "more than just the trauma, we wont know more until you change but you will be changing and i think it's already started." He came to sat down next to Stiles, feeling like that would be comforting, his best friend on the other side.
"Yeah." It sounded so small, so fragile. Tears graced his brown eyes. Derek could see the orange glint he ranted about, like a pumpkin-colored ribbon around the stump of a tree.
And then Derek heard Stiles' heartbeat fluctuate and immediately speed up. It matched the groan of pain he let out a second later. The older wolf stood up, it was almost time, the sun was almost gone from the horizon.
Stiles fell, crumples over on his side in a gasp of pain. Derek looked at Scott.
They had dragged him from the house, gasping and moaning from pain, and loaded him in Scott's truck, Derek rode with him in the truck bed. When they got to the forest at the edge of town, Scott was clinging to Derek's arm, tears sliding down his face mixed with sweat. It hurt Derek to see him this hurt, something in the older wolf switched on at the sight of Stiles crying into him. He wanted to protect him.
All of a sudden Stiles claws began to form, Derek watched as his eyes changed from the sweet brown he was used to to a carrot-like hue. It was brighter than any wolf he had ever seen, like fire.
He was so distracted that he was already being flung out of the truck before he could process Stiles throwing him.
He yelped, when he got up he had changed under the full moon light, his wolf ears alert on top of his head.
Scott had also changed while Derek was down. Stiles was gone from the bed of Scott's truck.

The wind flew through his fur as he ran faster than he ever had before in his life. he felt the ground on his paws with every stroke. it felt like flying. he caught the smell of something off in the distance and dug his claws in the dirt so he wouldnt go sliding when he stopped. he sniffed the air with his snout. blueberries.
He ran in the direction of the heavenly smell, driven by the hunger that he embodied.
Not knowing he was being tracked the entire time.

Scott and Derek had tracked Stiles using his heartbeat and..scent. A mixture of that earthy dirt smell and his signature shampoo, however Derek never mentioned that part to Scott.
They were dead silent as they watched, Stiles had shifted alright. He skipped about ten steps in the whole transformation process, the one Scott had struggled through, and went straight to animagus.
They were staring at stiles, fully transformed. He was a werefox, Derek thought it was oddly fitting. his orange and black fur beautiful in the moonlight.
Stiles cocked his head, ears flopping to one side as he listened. His eyes that bright orange still, like a fire burning inside of him. It fascinated Derek.
Concern flooded Scott, he tried to quell the wolf inside of himself but the feeling just grew stronger every minute they watched Stiles frolic.
And then, halfway through munching on some blueberries, he howled.
And Scott immediately returned the howl, and Derek joined in.
Their heartbeats synced up, the howl grew more intense. They could hear wolves in the distance, members of Scott and Derek's pack joining in from everywhere.

Their voices enveloped Stiles, like a warm blanket on a cold night. they were welcoming him. Making him apart of their world. A lone fox, howling for the sound of it, only to find the reason why a moment later.
After they finished yelping and yowling, he continued munching on his blueberries.
After he was done, satisfied with his bountiful hunt, he settled down on the dry leaves and curled into himself. He fell asleep within a few minutes.

When Stiles woke the next morning, he was in his bed again. He was wearing one of his dirty t-shirts, his mouth felt sticky and gross.
He flipped around, sitting up in his bed to find Scott standing in his doorway.
"Good morning." His friend handed him a cup of coffee.
"What the hell happened last night." There was a kink in his neck and he was sore, like he was after a game but the last game he participated in was last year.
"so..you're kind of part of the pack now."
Stiles stared at him, "what?"
"I mean, more so than you already were, you..transformed last night." He smiled.
"Transformed?! Into what!" He practically shouted at Scott.
"shh, you're gonna wake your dad!" stiles took a very grounding deep breath,
"Scott, you need to tell me what happened last night." the orange in his pupils returned and Scott backed away from him.
"okay, okay. you're a werefox dude!" he exclaimed, smiling even wider.
Stiles set his coffee down and collapsed into bed with a groan. The dream he had wasn't a dream after all.
"Cool." He said weakly, through his hands. "Is that why i taste blueberries?"
"Come on, we're gonna be late for school." He laughed as he walked out of Stiles' bedroom.
