I Can't Believe I Like You.

Summary:

Basically an Amepan centered fic where they live together during college and figure out they like each other.

Chapter 1: Just Grabbing Coffee

Summary:

Alfred and Kiku get coffee.

Notes:

These chapters are gonna be short but I'm planning on having many chapters. (The reason they're so short is because I just prefer writing smaller bits.) There will most likely be some longer chapters scattered throughout the fic.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

(Prompt by friend btw)

Kiku POV
"You have something in your hair."
"Eh! Where?" Alfred began frantically running his hands through his blonde hair, attempting to desperately shake the clump of dust off his hair. He was shaking his head like a dog would after rolling in a swamp of mud.

Alfred was originally some kid in my class during my middle and high school years, yet now he was my college roommate. We had always been in the same friend group yet never really talked until the last year of highschool. He ended up becoming my roommate for college last year and it went so well that we agreed to room together again this year. Today he dragged me out to get coffee at our usually place. He did this after hearing that my hang out with Feli and Ludwig was cancelled. I accepted reluctantly.

"Did I get it?" He paused his frantic hair search in order to wait for my reply.
"Yeah... you got it." He looked up at me in relief.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, just tired."
"Alright! Just making sure!" He leaned over and ruffled my hair.
I couldn't help but laugh at his energy, he was stupid... so stupid.
"There we go, dude!" He grinned, satisfied from making me laugh.
"So, Feli and Ludwig, huh?" He said, smiling knowingly.
"They're both oblivious idiots..." I spoke, propping my head up with my arm. It was quiet for a moment before he spoke again.
"At least you don't have to deal with being a third wheel right now." Alfred said, chuckling to himself soon after.
"Yea, at least that's something."
"They should honestly just kiss alrea-" Alfred spoke, getting interupted mid-sentence.

"Hello may I take both your orders?"
I looked over at the waiter, he was tall and held a pen and paper in his hands.
"Oh! I'll have a slice of apple pie and hot cocoa!" Alfred said in his usual loud voice; a stark contrast from his earlier teasing tone. The waiter then turned to me.

"Uh just a frappuccino?" I had eaten before coming over and didn't feel quite pekish. The waiter nodded and replied brightly soon after.
"Hope you two enjoy your date!"
I sat in pure, utter shock. He obviously misunderstood. Me and Alfred were simply just friends. No romantic intentions involved-
"Oh, sir we're not on a date." Alfred spoke up, completly unbothered.
"Oh! My apologies then. You both seemed close. Either way have a great day."

It was awfully quiet as the waiter left our table, leaving us behind at the booth.
"Are we still doing movie night on Friday?" Alfred said, leaning back into the booth.
"Of course, we always do it. Why wouldn't we?" I answered, he shrugged. "Just making sure. Y'know sometimes you're busy." He wasn't inaccurate in the slightest.
-----
When we finally got our food and drinks, Alfred wasted no time to immediantly scarf it down. Alfred smirked joyously, like consuming this slice of apple pie was his life's one true mission. His smirk, however, was accompained by a splotch of hot chocolate by his mouth.
"Um... Alfred?"
"Yea?"
"You got some hot chocolate near your mouth." He immediantly wiped his mouth, somehow missing it completely.
"No, more right. Just- stop. Hold on." I the took a napkin and quickly rubbed it off his face.
"Thanks man." He thanked casually.
"No worries."
-----
It was an average, cloudy day. The street wasn't as busy as usual. Me and Alfred made our way back to our dorm. Usually Alfred would continue talking during these walks so it was surprising to find him so silent. However, it all made sense after realizing he had airpods in, most likely listening to Nirvana or something of the sorts. This rare silence let me reflect on what happened today. Why did the waiter think we were dating...? I understand that we were alone together but... we're both guys and to society that isn't the norm. The man said we "seemed close" though I'm not sure I follow with what he meant. We weren't touching each other, holding hands or flirting so why would he automatically suspect this... what made him think-
BANG

I walked straight into a metal lamp post.
"Kiku? You okay?" Alfred asked, taking one airpod out of his ear.
I simply nodded, semi-dazed and astonished that I was so lost in thought I actually bumped into something like an absolute idiot. Suddenly embarrasement flooded my brain as I realized this happened infront of another person. Alfred quickly grabbed my hand and helped me up and then ruffled my hair slightly. He continued walking, not noticing my ashamed and flustersd reaction.
-----
After humiliating myself by bumping into a literal street light, Alfred began talking to me again.
"Y'know there's gonna be a party soon."
"Another one?"
"Yea? Wanna come?"
"Alfred, you know how I feel about parties..."

The first college party I went to was when me and Alfred weren't as close, I ended up losing him mid-party and just sulking in the corner alone. The second ended up having two buzzed guys wrestling over the last beer in which the beer got thrown and hit some girl in the head. She ended up getting real upset and smacked both of the men. All in all, parties were just too much.

"Please? Third times the charm?" Alfred begged, making puppy eyes at me while saying it and tugging on my sleeve.
"Fine, but if I hate it then no more parties."
"If you hate it, can we instead drink together every now and then?"
"Sure... maybe once in a blue moon."
Alfred paused for a moment then spoke again.
"You can always leave early without me if you want."
"... I might hold you too that."

-----
It was late, the room was engulfed with darkness. I opened my phone to see it was 11:36. The light radiating off my phone almost blinded me, burning the bright homescreen of me, my older brother and my cat into my eyes. I had been trying to sleep since around 10:20, it's been more than an hour. Usually when I struggled to fall asleep for this long it would've because Alfred wanted to talk my ear off, but that wasn't the case. I was struggling all on my own, despite my comfortable bed. Truth be told, maybe it was because I couldn't stop thinking about Alfred and his stupid face. What was wrong with me...?

Notes:

He didn't get any sleep😔
