Chapter Text
Growing up with Gobber as a mentor, Hiccup was told many old legends and tales from when vikings first came to Berk. He'd heard about everything, from cautionary fables with trolls and pixies, to myths of powerful spirits and ancient gods who ruled over the lands. This, of course, led Hiccup to be a more magically inclined child than most, always raving about seeing faeries in the woods and mermaids in the waters below the cliffs. Though as Hiccup grew older, he stopped recounting such sightings. This was not because he had stopped believing in such things, but rather that he had learned the village's disdain for the tales he told. Nowadays such tales were for his knowing alone, with the exception of Toothless and Gobber if he was feeling particularly chatty that day.
Right now, Hiccup has been having to deal with the changes happening to Berk with the inclusion of the dragons on their island. Not just the structures that had to be made for the dragons, but changes to the environment that seemed to come as the dragons did, mainly the weather. Ever since the dragons started calling Berk their home, the winters have been noticeably shorter and warmer than usual. While this has been a considerably good change, giving Berk options of crops and more clear days to work and train dragons, it has made them have to rearrange quite a bit due to no longer having to prepare for the horrid winter months any more. Luckily, Berk was always quick to adapt, and it didn't take long for the village to happily accept no longer having to deal with the cold months. Because of this, Hiccup and the other dragon riders have been working tirelessly to help Berk adapt to the new changes. Hiccup was currently surveying the island with Toothless in the sky, which was mostly just an excuse to fly a couple laps around the area without getting dragged back down to deal with some other responsibility.
“Alright buddy, I think it's time to-” Hiccup was cut off by Toothless suddenly jerking his head to the side, now seemingly staring into the distance with intense focus. Hiccup followed his gaze, squinting off into the distance below them to try and see what Toothless was staring at. Then he spotted it, something falling and falling fast. It landed on one of the smaller surrounding islands, though seemingly to have slowed as it approached the ground.
“C’mon Toothless, let's go check it out.” Hiccup said, slowly easing Toothless towards the island and picking up speed as they flew. As they got closer and closer, Hiccup could slowly make out the, now noticing that it was an odd shade of blue, a very deep and vibrant shade that he had never seen on a dragon nor as a product of any dyes on Berk. He and Toothless landed a few paces away from the figure, not wanting to startle(or possibly anger) what he could now make out was a person, the vibrant blue coming from the hooded cloak they were draped in. He also noted that said person seemed to be struggling to stay on their feet, swaying and stumbling slightly as they leaned on what looked to be shepherd's crook.
Hiccup dismounted Toothless, who seemed oddly curious about the person, and took a few steps closer to them. “Are- Are you alright?” He called out, which seemed to startle them, as they whipped their head around to face him. Hiccup was met with a pale face, with wide crystal blue eyes staring at him. The almost inhuman blue eyes might've been the most startling thing about the person if it weren't for the shocking white hair he could see peeking out from the person’s cloak. Hiccup immediately froze, stunned into silence with every thought leaving his mind at once. He didn't even notice the stranger mumbling something to him. “You… You can…” The stranger didn't finish, as they seemed to lose their balance on their already shaky feet, falling to the floor with a thud.
Hiccup rushed over to the stranger to check on them, Toothless bounding slightly ahead of him. When they finally reach the person, Toothless nudged them with his snout, the dragon immediately reeling back and sneezing. Hiccup gave the dragon a confused look, before kneeling down and reaching to check the person for injuries. He reached out towards the stranger, brushing against their arm and feeling a sharp cold shoot through his fingers tips, making him quickly retract his arm and making Toothless chortle at his, which earned the dragon a pointed glare from his rider. “He's freezing…” Hiccup muttered, staring at the stranger for a second before carefully lifting them into his arms and standing. “Let's get him back to village Toothless.” He said, laying the stranger across Toothless’ saddle, making the dragon shiver slightly, before mounting the saddle himself.
