I grew wings to meet you, the sun, who shone so brightly. After so much time spent alone in the dark, your beautiful rays led the path for me so I could fly. I felt as if I could finally see. I soared high, desperate to catch up to the sun. My savior, my only friend. I kept reaching out, and when I couldnt reach, I kept persisting. I flew higher. Until one day, I fell. Plummeting further and further away from the sun. I tried flapping my wings.. Only to see them burn. Flames had engulfed them. Flames from the sun. It stung. Not the fire, the pain of being away from the sun. My sun. My light. My chest felt tight. Panic pooled in my stomach. What will I do when the sun isn't there to guide me? I dont want to be alone again. So please, my sun, light up the way again. Come back to me. I need you. Please.
I'm scared of the dark.
It was so cold. So, so cold. It was dark again, but this time, it became harder to breathe. Every breath I managed to take filled my lungs with water. Water flooded my ears, making it harder to hear. There was so much water. Was I in the sea? I felt like I was being slowly dragged down. More distant to the sun. It was like chains were wrapped around me, preventing me from moving.
Maybe this was how it was always supposed to be. Maybe I was hoping for too much. Maybe the sun wanted me gone. I was just an annoying bug compared to the vast, mighty sun. Yet why do I still crave that warmth?
Oh, I know. That warmth was what was keeping me alive. Thats the reason. And thats why I cant give up now. My sun. Thats the only reason.
So what if I'm drowning, struggling to breathe in this murky water? I would do it again, over and over. A million times. Just to see the sun shine brightly again. Because I love my sun.
I fought against the restraints. Wrestling the chains snaking around my arms, twisting, prying, doing all I can to wrench them free. Then finally, yanking free from the harsh metal. I kicked urgently in defiance of the strong currents. Until I saw the first ray of light. I forced my body to swim faster, despite my sore muscles screaming to stop. I swam with pure adrenaline, urging myself to see the sun once more. To bask in it's familiarity.
The ray of light now blazed fiercely, more dazzling than ever. It seemed to reach out. So I reached out as well.
For the first time, I touched the sun. I felt the glaring sense of comfort through it's light grasp. I could breathe again. I could hear clearly. For the first time, i saw his face—his smile.
And for the first time, I smiled.
