"No"

"Pleaseee"

"No"

"It's real good!"

The man on the other side of the phone just stared at him, with eyes that very clearly conveyed the feeling of disinterest.

"Pretty please?"

"Kagehira, I am not, under any circumstance, buying you a barbie doll"

Mika made a cat like noise, then looked at the table in front of him, pretending to ignore his unit leader on the other side.

"Kagehira, you're a fully functional adult"

...

"Okay, maybe not fully functional..." Shu corrected, disappointment literally pouring out of his soul.

Mika furrowed his brows

"I can still have a doll, yknow? I ain't super old fer 'em!"

"You are, atleast in theory" The disappointment kept at it,

"If you want one so badly, buy it with your money"

Mika held a hand to his chest

"I wanna save up fer us! Fer Valkyrie! Yer tellin' me ta spend it on a doll?"

Shu was just about done with this conversation

The manchild was not

"It comes with all these super sparkly dresses!" He tried to explain the appeal, none of which made it to Shu's memory center.

"With all due respect..." Shu sighed,

"...do I look like I care? It's a toy. A toy. Have you ever seen me excited over a plastic stick figure?"

Mika full on frowned

"But ya got Madonee!"

"If you dare compare Mademoiselle to a cheap plastic toy, I'll fly to Japan this instant and slam your head into a wall. Perhaps that will re-wire it"

He fake cried, slumping on the tabletop as he whined

"Give me a different option" Shu sighed,

"Something worth my money"

"...I got nothin' " Mika shamefully admitted

"Didn't you ask Narukami for suggestions last time?"

Mika groaned in reply

"Her ideas were tolerable, at the very least. I would rather buy you 'cheap lipgloss'...even though the very thought irks me"

"Fineee!" Mika huffed, "Ask her then! Why ask me? It ain't like I'm yer...uh...artistic partner!"

"Oh, don't flatter yourself" Shu scoffed,

"You're giving me nothing, what am I supposed to do? Buy you flowers?"

"Ehehe...that's gonna kill me, oshi san"

"You say the most depressing things with the brighest of smiles" Shu sighed for what seemed to be the 999th time that call,

"What do you want then?"

"Uhh...well, I dunno, really. Ya won't let me have any toys, an' I already got so much of yer merch an' all that I think I've run outta stuff to buy of ya"

Itsuki was heard muttering a delightful 'Thank God'

"Oh! I know!" He suddenly gleamed, "Oshi san, can ya gift me makeup???"

"Makeup?" Shu asked, "Well...er, it's much better than a doll...and, I suppose you might need good quality cosmetics..."

"Sooo?"

"Alright. Makeup it is"

"YAY!" He threw his arms in the air, waking Ritsu up for about a second, after which his head dropped back to his pillow.

"Too loud, Kagehira"

"I figured that out" Mika sighed, "I jus' realised I'm almost outta blush too..."

"Out of blush? Where on earth do you even go wearing that?"

"Everywhere"

"You actually wear that every single day?"

"Gotta look mah best" He proudly raised his head, "My cheeks need to be all pink and sparkly~ ☆ "

Shu seemed nothing close to impressed, or surprised by the response,

"Right...of course"

"Ngah...'s just me, or ya gettin' more an' more exhausted every time we have a call? Am I so tirin' ta talk to?"

"Quite tiring, frankly" Shu allowed his cheek to rest on his knuckles,

"I tend to call you in the evening, when I am done with my day's work. I am already very tired by now, so it adds to your exuberance"

"I never thought about that..." Mika hummed, "...I guess I'll be less uh...ex-lubricant"

"Exuberant"

"Yeah, that"

"Thank you, for considering my health and mental stability" a smile made its way to his lips, "I so hope that you keep your word, Kagehira"

"Nyehe...I can't promise nothin'...but sure, I'll try"

"Now, you best be getting ready for bed"

"..."

"..."

"I haven't had my dinner yet!"

"Are you insane?" Shu berated, "What are you doing gambling with your health?!"

"Ngah, don' scold me!" He hurriedly stood up, "I'll be right back! Don' go anywhere"

"Are you serious?"

Mika paused mid slurp.

He had decided to eat cup noodles, because he didn't want to go eat outside, and he still wanted to talk to Shu while he ate.

And...maybe because he knew Itsuki hated it with his heart and soul.

...

Shu pinched the bridge of his nose. Then closed his eyes, and let out a sharp exhale.

As Mika finally took up all the noodles into his mouth to chew, he waited patiently for Shu to continue.

...

"Uh...ya look ya wanna say somethin' ?"

"What do you THINK"

Despite Itsuki being halfway across the globe, Mika felt a shiver down his spine.

"Um..."

"That's providing you with enough nutrition to take you straight to hell, Kagehira"

"I knew you'd say that"

"Then quit torturing me with the sight!" Shu whined, "I don't want to watch you eat this!"

Even with the noodles slowly slipping into his mouth, he grinned at the screen.

"Take that shit-eating grin with your soul to the grave!"

"You swore again!" He flinched

"You're making me lose my composure!"

"..."

"..."

"Ya sound like how Kiryuu senpai describes ya~ " Mika teased, "He says ya whined a lot~ Is that true, oshi san?"

That made Shu zip his lips for a bit

Though he still stared at Mika like a guardian angel who had had enough of his dumbfuck human.

"So..." Mika licked his lips, "...anythin' fun happen in Paris?"

"Other than disgustingly hot weather? No" Shu spoke, still holding some kind of grudge

Mika tossed the empty cup into the trash

"And you?"

"Nothin' worth talkin' about" Mika dabbed his lips with a moist paper towel, "I've been stayin' in mah room for a while...it's way too hot out"

"Hmm...must be..."

"..."

"..."

"Hey, oshi san?"

"Yes?"

He grinned again

"I learnt a new word"

"Did you?" Shu's curiosity seemed to show itself

"Uhuh, 's 'sine qua non' "

"Sine qua non..." Shu repeated, his pronunciation obviously being better,

"Let's hear it"

"It means uh...somethin' thas absolutely necessary"

"Correct"

"Yknow, like you!"

That seemed to make Shu's eyes widen in slight surprise

"It's...well, usually you'd use it when referring to a condition or an ingredient...you see..."

"Nyehe...yer blushing" Mika snickered, "I knew that...but uh, can't I say that yer an important 'ingredient' to me?"

"What–Do you say anything now???"

He laughed softly, at how strangely confused Itsuki sounded. As if he was either delaying, or trying to figure out if Mika was joking.

"Yer like...salt in mah pasta...or uh...sugar in my taffy! Or uh...yeast in my— "

"I get it. Thank you very much" He cleared his throat to hide the blush on his cheeks,

"Now, it's time for bed, isn't it?"

"Eh? Yer jus' gonna leave me?"

"It's time to sleep, Kagehira" He spoke softly,

"You don't sleep on time, then you continue the cycle 'til I eventually come to Japan and force you into a routine again...it's not good for you"

Mika pouted

"I know..."

"Then sleep. I'll be here again tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then the day after. I'm just a call away"

"I know that too..."

"Then don't look so devastated" He smiled, "Go to bed now. I'll hang up"

"Okay..." He picked at the stray threads of his sleeves, "...good night, oshi san"

"Bonne nuit, Kagehira. Sleep well"
