Chapter Text
"Hey, Wilson!"
Darryl startled, his paperwork scattering in the footwell of the Odyssey. He cursed quietly and looked up to see a figure strolling towards the car.
Darryl found Glenn curious. They had exchanged pleasantries in the school parking lot when picking up their boys a few times before (Darryl a handshake, Glenn an upward nod). Plus when Grant expressed a vague interest in guitar, Glenn's teaching had come recommended from some of the other parents. There was nothing wrong with Glenn, per say, other than him being in possession of a laid-back attitude that Darryl found somewhat alien.
Glenn's arms rested casually against the open window as Darryl tried to rescue his notes. "Grant's just setting up inside. Whatcha doin' out here?"
Darryl realised if he wanted to reach his notes he'd have to get out of the car, so accepted defeat for now. "Just some lesson planning, you know how it is." At least, he assumed Glenn knew how it was. Teaching gym at the local school and teaching guitar lessons from your own home were probably quite different, but there had to be some overlap.
Glenn raised a quizzical brow. "Are you sitting in your car every week during Grant's lessons?" His curious eyes matched the amber of the leaves outside.
Darryl flushed. He had dropped Grant off at Glenn's door every week since he began lessons four weeks ago, before moving his car further up the road to get some work done. Not far enough, it seemed. "Well, with the afternoon traffic, you know, by the time I drove home I'd have to circle back again," he explained.
"Man, why didn'tcha say? Come work inside. I can fix you a coffee and you can sit in on the lesson." Glenn seemed to sense Darryl's impending polite rejection before he could express it. "It's no sweat, really. You can see how far Grant's coming along, although it's mostly basic chords at this stage. Plus it saves you from sitting in here for an hour. Not that it's not a good looking car. What model, 2012?"
"2013!" Darryl tried not to sound to eager. He could talk about his car for hours, but didn't want to cut more into Grant's lesson time. It was hard enough to get his kid interested in something beyond his game console. Sure, he'd needed prompting to practice outside of lessons so far, but Darryl hoped that the passion would come with time. "Yeah actually, I'll take you up on that."
"Nice. I warn you though, once you have a Glenn Close coffee, that chain shit," he pointed his chin at the half empty cup in the car holder, "ain't gonna taste the same."
Glenn opened the driver side door for Darryl with a bow that felt excessively chivalrous. "I guess we'll have to see about that."
