Work Text:
The Knight of Blood and Iron lied to him and he was not happy about it! Lloyd didn't know who he needed to file a complaint to for this to be amended but he was definitely going to be talking to someone's manager. Preferably someone high up on the food chain. The book had made Javier Asrahan out to be some sort of stoic heroine with a world saving complex. However the Javier he was currently faced with was not as previously described.
Javier sat in front of him, eyes dilated.
Lloyd stared back with his arms crossed, “You took my shovel.”
Javier blinked and frowned, “I… am sorry my lord.”
Lloyd shot his knight a skeptical look as he retrieved his precious shovel from Javier's bed where a pile of junk sat. Swords, jewelry, and of course his shovel laid on a heap. Javier's frown deepened as Lloyd reclaimed his shovel. Lloyd returned the frown as he left with his prize.
Seriously, this guy was weird.
It only got worse too!
They'd been working on blasting the side of a ravine down to be outfitted for a quarry when Javier had walked right in the line of Lloyd's fire! Lloyd hadn't been able to abort the mana blast in time and had fired it right into Javier's path. Javier had turned upon Lloyd's vehement yelling just in time to see the massive fireball hurtling straight for him. Instead of doing a counter attack, blocking, or straight up running away, Lloyd watched in abject horror as his knight took the blast. Being the good person he was, Lloyd had rushed to his knight's side. Desperate and frankly scared. Only to see he was mostly unharmed!
All that remained was Javier and his pants, his bare chest looking a little singed. Soot was smeared all across his toned body. Lloyd swiftly averted his eyes.
“What were you thinking! You could have died! Have you lost it! Seriously, what is it with you lately?” Lloyd all but screaming at the toasted knight
Javier raised an eyebrow, “I'm fine, no need to worry.”
Lloyd gave him a flat look, “Your hair is on fire.”
“No it's not,” Javier replied smoothly as he stood.
“I hate you.” Lloyd seethed.
Javier smirked and revealed sharp canines, “No you don't.”
After that, Lloyd started to notice little things. Like the way Javier always seemed to prefer his meat a little more raw than what was standard for that world. The knight's inability to get burnt. The way his eyes seemed to dilate like a reptile's. Most peculiarly, the way Javier seemed to bristle whenever Lloyd interacted with Solitas.
Lloyd had popped in to check on how things were going, Solitas fervently working on his craftsmanship skills for the sake of finding a mate. The young dragon had perked up upon seeing Lloyd, Javier at his flank. Solitas had held up a massive ruby, carved into a shoddy heart-thing.
“What do you think?” The red dragon had asked excitedly.
Lloyd inspected it, “Hmmmm, the shape is off. Good pick though.”
The dragon in human form beamed and preened at the slight praise. Meanwhile Javier seemed to grow displeased. When they left the shop, Lloyd watched as Javier gave the building a dirty look. Rare for the knight.
“What's up with you?” Lloyd asked.
Javier looked away, “I do not know what you mean.”
“Bull. You got some sort of thing with Solitas don't you?” Lloyd accused.
The knight flushed, “I do not.”
Lloyd grinned, “You don't like it when I talk to him!”
Javier's flush deepened, “That's not it.”
“Oh? What is it then? You've been off for weeks now and I want to know what's up.” Lloyd said pointedly.
Suddenly Javier's eyes dilated and he let out a growl, “You are… so annoying.”
Lloyd blinked owlishly as Javier invaded his space, “You-”
“Am a dragon.” Javier finished for him.
All of the cumulative events locked into place. The shovel theft was hoarding. Being fireproof was a part of having scales. Preferring raw meat was a draconian trait, sharp canines to devour the meat with. However the jealousy didn't make much sense.
“It doesn't explain why you don't like Solitas though,” Lloyd said thoughtfully.
Javier was looming now, “Because he's coveting what's mine.”
Lloyd froze, “I'm not-”
“Mine.” Javier insisted, eyes fully slits now.
His face heated, “Javier I think you're mistaken, you see I-”
“You are mine.” Javier reiterated just as firmly,
The knight raked his eyes over Lloyd possessively and Lloyd found himself feeling self conscious. Javier was close now, enough that Lloyd could feel his heated breath. His own face was most definitely flushed and he stuttered trying to find a way out of the situation he had walked himself into.
Lloyd didn't stand a chance did he?
“Okay fine.” Lloyd sighed, “Your's. But you better not steal my shovel again.”
Javier let out a please purr and stepped back, pleased.
Lloyd however felt like he had walked into the lion's den and survived.
