Work Text:
Nyas boots clomp loudly on the old wooden floor of the monastery as she enters through the front doors, Jay—Rogue following quickly behind her. After a uniquely hard mission, that just so happened to be the first one Rogue had tagged along on, Nya was about ready to crash from exhaustion. A mixture of how little she had slept that night, a pounding headache, and a throbbing injury to her side that ran all the down her leg she didn’t feel like messing with at the moment had her in a particularly, for lack of better word, pissed-off mood.
She heard a sigh from behind her as she was walking back to her room. She ignored it, but soon another over-dramatic sigh followed. Just as she was opening her bedroom door, a third over-dramatic loud sigh came from a few feet down the hall.
“Yes Rogue..?” She questioned with a hint of annoyance in her words.
A moment passed before she was blessed with a response. “I…uh never mind”. Nya heard Rogues shoes turn to walk away, but stopped once she spoke. “What do you want Rogue, I don’t have the patience to deal with this bullshit right now”. Nya pressed her forehead against the door and squeezed her eyes shut, it helped rid the headache for a few moments.
“Damn sorry, someone’s in a shift mood. I just need some help with this…uh…injury.”
Nya turned her head against the door to look Rogue, raising her eyebrow in question, “Injury? Like, from today?”. Rogue nodded silently. In Nyas haze of pissed-off-ness she hadn’t even considered any of her teammates could have gotten injured in the fight. Damn, now she was even angrier. Mostly at her self to be fair.
Nya nodded and gestured forward. “Lead the way, there’s a med-kit in the bathroom on the right down the hall”.
Walking behind Rogue, Nya was perplexed as to why he had asked for her help. He never had in the three months he had been living in the monastery. After his leg healed he was pretty much freeloading on the couch, so Lloyd told him he either had to help around the monastery or go on missions. He didn’t have the heart to tell him to leave, either. No one did.
Closing the bathroom door behind her, Nya turned to Rogue, who was standing as awkwardly as a person could be standing. Nya raised her eyebrow once again, and looked Rogue up and down. “You just gonna stand there or you gonna tell me where your injured?” Nya questioned. Rogue sighed and looked up at he ceiling in defeat. “It’s on my left shoulder blade, I think there’s some shrapnel stuck in the bone but I’m not flexible enough to see it or do anything about it. Didn’t trust anyone else to get it out” Rogue mumbled the last part under his breath, and Nya only caught a small portion of it. She smirked, before instructing him to grab the med-kit from the wall.
Nya set up a ‘work station’ on the sink counter and make Rogue sit on the closed toilet. “This is gross” Rogue mumbled before being shoved down onto the seat by his shoulders. His ears turned a light shade of pink after Nya touched him. Nya tried to hide her smirk.
At least he was letting her help. She still had no idea why, but it still counts.
“Yea, so I’m gonna need you to take your shirt off so I can see the wound” Nya exclaimed, still trying to hide her smirk as she watched him squirm under her gaze.
“Absolutely not.” Rogue answered about as quickly as Nya would have anticipated. Nya rolled her eyes.
“Oh shut it Sparky, I’ve seen much more interesting parts of your body than your chest. Now get on with it.” Nya waved a small pack of gauze around as she said that, making her words even more expressive. Nya watched Rogues ears and cheeks turn a bright pink as he processed what she said. He turned around as quick as lightning out of embarrassment, but it was to Nyas favor as she could get a better look at his injury. And at least he listened, slipping off his Mercenary gi.
Now that Rogue couldn’t see her face, Nya let her smile slip loose. Nya was in a much better mood now.
First master, Nya forgot how hot Jay was. Even with the deep, rugged scars running up-down-and across his body. The muscles on his back we’re so defined, and mixed with his tanned skin make him her exact type. If only he thought the same.
Nya got right to work examining the few cuts on Rogues left shoulder blade. Three of them, to be exact. Almost in the formation of a claw mark. Blood oozed out of them, green and purple bruising surrounded them and she could see the pieces of what she assumed to be scrap metal sticking out of two of them. The bottom one, however, looked to have already shed itself of its causing. Nya stepped back for a moment and thought of what was necessary. Luckily all of the ninja had some sort of first-aid training in case of emergency, so this would be light work for Nya. But it would most definitely hurt Rogue when she attempted to dig out the scrap metal. But the ninja didn’t ever have any numbing stuff in the monastery, and when they did each bottle dropped like flies.
Nya picked up a pair of tweezers, and begun to dig out the pieces of shrapnel as carefully as she could. But not before sterilizing her tools and the cuts.
After she got a good grip on the largest piece of metal, she slowly pulled at it. She noticed Rogues change in body language almost immediately. The way his shoulders tensed, the way he balled his fists in his lap, the way he hung his head down low. “Sorry Ja-“ she had to stop herself. This wasn’t Jay. This was Rogue, “Rogue…” she finished. She heard Rogue sigh, and waited a moment to continue what she was doing. After disposing of the piece of shrapnel Nya cleaned the wound and continued working.
After removing all of the pieces of metal Nya washed the wound with water and hydrogen peroxide. Rogues shoulders tensed as she did, the only real sign he was in any pain. Nya was surprised that he even let that small gesture slide, as he was usually immaculate at hiding his pain. As Nya was preparing a needle and thread to stitch up his three wounds, Rogue turned around and froze. “I never said you had to stitch it” he croaked out. Nya stared at him for a moment, then exclaimed, “Your leaking blood all over my bathroom floor and you expect me not to sew you back together?” She raised her eyebrow once again, for what felt like the millionth time that evening.
Rogue began to fidget with his hands. A mix of Nyas impending glare and the way her hands made him think of much different things were not helping with his anxiety and nervousness around her. “Never mind, forget it. Just finish what your doing” He exclaimed before turning back around.
