Prom was tonight and Wilson stood outside of Leslie’s house with Kali waiting on the sidewalk nearby Leslie’s house. She had just survived her first week in Elmore Junior High and ended up making friends with Gumball and Darwin Watterson.
Leslie then opened the door and smiled.
“Hi, Wilson! Are you ready for prom?” He said. He was wearing a pink dress. Typical of him.
“Yeah, I’m ready. Kali is waiting on the sidewalk, we’re all heading in together if that’s ok.” Wilson replied as they walked down to meet up with Kali.
“Yeah that’s fine.” Leslie grabbed Wilson’s hand. “Hey Kali!”
“Hi, Leslie.” Kali said with her mouth full. She was carrying a bag of popcorn and just barely shoved an entire handful into her mouth.
The group got to the school and walked into the gymnasium, which is where prom was being held. Kali looked around for Gumball and Darwin. Instead, she saw a girl with glittery green hair.
“Whoa… Who is that…?” She asked Wilson.
“Oh. That’s my friend, Clare. I don’t think you’ve met her.” Wilson replied, completely oblivious to Kali’s new feelings. He was dragged to the dance circle by Leslie.
“That changes today.” Kali called to him before going up to Clare.
“Hi, I’m Kali, Wilson’s twin sister. You’re his friend right?” Kali held her hand out.
“Yes I am. I’m Clare Cooper and this is my boyfriend, Jared.” Clare shook Kali’s hand
Oh. She has a boyfriend. Of course she does.
“I’m going to meet up with my friends, see you later!” Kali waved before walking to find Gumball and Darwin, silently sobbing.
“Kali!” Darwin called to her, Carrie following behind him.
“Hi, Darwin.” Kali replied, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand.
“We saved you a spot at our table if you want to come.” Carrie said.
“Yeah. That would be nice.” Kali followed them to the table they picked out.
She saw Gumball and Penny sitting there already and waving once they noticed her. Kali waved back and sat down.
“How are you liking prom so far?” Penny asked before taking another sip of her fruit punch.
“It’s… fine? I guess?” Kali wasn’t about to lie.
“What happened? Prom is usually really fun.” Darwin asked.
“Well uhh… I just met someone who I think is cute and she has a boyfriend.” Kali said, upset.
“Well, who is it?” Gumball questioned.
“Clare Cooper…”
Gumball and Darwin looked at each other and then their jaws dropped to the floor. Carrie and Penny sighed.
“We’ll help you!” Gumball declared proudly.
“I’m not entirely sure how you can help this time.” Kali sighed.
“We helped Clare stay in Elmore. We also helped Wilson and Leslie get together.” Darwin replied.
“Yeah well this is different. And I swear to GOD if you forcefully break them up.” Kali snapped.
Gumball and Darwin sighed and sat down. They were obviously still going to ‘help.’ Kali didn’t say anything about it, though. The group began to talk about random things, which helped Kali feel a bit better. The intercom came on.
“We would like to invite all couples to the dance floor.” Principal Brown said.
Kali waved to the other 4 as they went to dance. She turned the chair she was sitting on around to watch everyone dancing. The slow music came on. Oh God this is weird. Why were they actually playing a slow song? They’re all in MIDDLE SCHOOL. She still watched all of the couples dance. At some point, Jared and Clare passed where she was sitting. She couldn’t help but feel… wrong.
Eventually, the slow dance was over, and now all of the couples were just dancing some random dances. Kali sighed and looked to the floor. She then noticed the song that she and Wilson created a dance to back when they were 6, right before she was taken, was playing. Wilson came up to her.
“Kaliiiiiii!!” He said, pulling Kali to her feet. “Do you remember our dance?”
“Oh please, how could I forget? I practiced every night when I lived with Dad.” Kali replied.
“So what do you say? Wanna dance?” Wilson put his hand out.
“Oh do I?” Kali grabbed his hand and they hurried to the middle of the dance floor.
The dance was a bit messy at first, but they eventually got the hang of it. Everyone was watching them, but it felt as if they weren’t. It felt as if they were alone in their shared room they had at 6 years old. The song finished and the twins walked back to where Leslie was watching, laughing.
“I got that all on camera, by the way.” Leslie said, waving his phone on his side.
“Yeah I noticed. You should send it to us!” Kali exclaimed.
“Will do! I’ll create a group chat… Should I add Clare?” Leslie turned to Wilson.
“Yeah you should! That way, Kali and Clare could get to know each other.” Wilson replied.
“Oh yeah, I said hi to her earlier.” Kali had a very slight upset tone.
“I’ll add Jared, too.” Leslie tapped a few more things into his phone and Kali felt a buzz in her pocket.
“Wait, so am I part of your friend group now?” Kali asked before pulling her phone out.
“Yeah, obviously!” Wilson replied, his eyes on his phone.
“Awesome! I’m still gonna hang out with Gumball and Darwin the most.”
“I don’t give a shit who you hang out with, Kali.” Wilson shoved Kali and she shoved him back.
“Speaking of which, I’m going to go find them. You guys are too gay for me.” Kali spoke while she walked away.
“HEY THAT’S NOT-”
“I’m kiddingggg! I’m leaving anyway.”
“See you Kali!” Leslie called to her.
It was about 5 minutes later when Kali found the group. Darwin immediately ran up to her and jumped up and down.
“You and Wilson did that dance so well! I’m really impressed.” He squealed.
“Did you ever doubt me on my dancing skills?” Kali joked.
“That’s not what I said.”
“I was kidding, dummy.”
Kali sat down at the same table as the others. The rest of the night consisted of a lot of laughs. She ended up almost forgetting about that new feeling she got when she saw Clare. That is, until she left to go to the restroom. Kali walked into the women’s restroom and saw Clare washing her hands.
“Oh hi! Your name is…Kali, right?” Clare had said.
“Yeah, hey.” Kali replied, her voice ever so slightly shaking.
“How’s prom treating you?”
“It’s… very noisy.”
“Yeah I think I might stay here for like, 30 minutes.”
“Haha! I’m just here cuz I need to use the restroom.”
“After you do, you should totally stay here with me.”
“Uhhh… sure!”
Kali quickly used the restroom and washed her hands, going to stand next to Clare (why would they be sitting?)
“When did you move back to Elmore?” Clare asked. It was really quiet, and it was weird.
“Like… a week ago? Last Wednesday to be exact.” Kali replied.
“Jeez. How’s it treating you?”
“Fine, I guess. Ms Simian is so strict, I love Mr Small’s lessons though, he’s super interesting.”
“You find Mr Small interesting? That’s something I’ve never heard someone say.”
“I dunno, it’s just interesting to me. Hey, how’d you meet Wilson?”
“Oh, it was a long time ago. We were both 7 years old.”
“Jesus Christ, that was quite a long time ago.”
“Yeah, I saw him on a swingset and he looked rather upset. I think it was a result of your Dad taking you.”
“Oh God, you know about that?”
“Yeah, Wilson talked about it a lot back then.”
Kali hummed in response. What was she even supposed to say to that?
The 2 girls kept rambling about random things. Then, their phones started buzzing like crazy. The GC that Leslie created was spamming.

Kali and Clare looked at each other and started hurrying towards the gym, finding the boys wasn’t difficult. They were right by the door.
“You disappeared for an HOUR!” Wilson grabbed Kali and hugged her.
“Did it really go that fast?” Clare looked at Kali. Kali looked back.
“You actually scared us.” Jared said.
“Prom ends soon, too.” Leslie added.
“I’m honestly tired, I might head home.” Kali yawned.
“Ok yeah, let's go home.” Wilson walked up to Kali.
“Ok! Bye Wilson, see you Kali!” Clare waved. Kali waved back.
Once Kali and Wilson were out of sight, Kali began to jump up and down. Wilson, who was 100% texting Leslie, noticed in his peripheral vision.
“You’re very happy. What’s up?” He asked, his eyes still locked on his phone.
“Oh uhhh… nothing!” Kali replied. Wilson sighed.
“It’s obviously not nothing.”
Kali winced. The jist was up. She’s not very good at hiding things.
“Tonight, I realized I had a crush…” Kali looked away.
“Wait, WHAT.” Wilson had practically thrown his phone into his pocket.
“You heard me.”
“WHO IS IT?”
“...Clare.”
Wilson stared at her with his jaw dropped.
“You’re kidding.” He somehow choked out.
“I’m not kidding.” Kali said with the most deadpan face ever.
“Oh my God…”
“If you say anything, I’m gonna tell Mom you and Leslie are dating.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“Oh I would.” Kali ran off.
“KALIIIIII!!!!!!!” Wilson caught up to her.
It’s not like their mom was homophobic, Wilson just doesn’t want to tell her yet because she just doesn’t understand fully. Kali was laughing.
“Dude, I’m kidding.”
“You better be.”
The twins got home, their mom was still at work. Kali immediately ran to her room and took off her dress to get into her pajamas. Wilson did the same and then immediately went to her room.
“Oh my God… What do you want?” Kali sighed.
“Tell me what the hell happened in that bathroom.” Wilson replied, sitting on Kali’s desk chair.
“We just talked. Nothing happened.”
“Are you sureee?”
“Yes I’m sure.”
“Alright fine, but you’re telling me as soon as something happens.”
“Will do. Now get out of my room.”
Wilson left and closed the door behind him. God Kali is so insufferable. Whatever, he was going to bug her about her new feelings every chance he got. He chuckled to himself before going to his room to sleep.
