Work Text:
The room bore darkness, only a sliver of moonlight managing to make it past the small opening of royal blue curtains. Like almost every other night, two souls were together in silence before bed. Itrapped, pretty cold, stoic… and Chance.
Unlike every other night though— Itrapped is letting Chance lay on top of him. Petting though the other’s coarse hair, careful not to touch the headphones still on them. It never made much sense to Itrapped, not like anything is going on. Yet it has been too long for Itrapped to be able to say anything, therefore he just stayed quiet, thinking.
And as much as Chance hated being treated as some pet for Itrapped, or tossed around like an object— it’s always a rare occurrence to be able to get any affection from the man at all. Instead he chose to relish in the feeling, enjoying a little attention one time doesn’t mean anything. As he snuggled in against Itrapped’s chest, Itrapped’s mind was elsewhere. Or it would be considered not thinking much at all. The weight of chance didn’t even feel real on top of him, his hands following some robotic format, all his movements just instinct rather than thought out. Silly, afterall he was just petting Chance.
“Can you call me your girlfriend?” His eyes stayed staring up at the ceiling, glazed over, nothing behind it. Despite the paint being still, the little stars seemed to almost dance in Itrapped’s vision. The werewolf, not a as well known constellation. That was the only thing focused in his head, not even his tone of voice had anything laced in it.
The sudden question snapped Chance back to reality. “What?” He didn’t mean it in a bad way, just confused. They tilted their head to look up at Itrapped, who avoided meeting their eyes.
The weight shift felt uncomfortable, suddenly not just present, but too heavy for Itrapped. “In a sentence. I just want to know what it sounds like.” His eyes blurred, the stars above looking funny. When he first got this house he was quite young, 16 to be exact. He was always super independent, his parents house feeling less like a home than ever. So they gave him this one, he hired someone to paint the galaxy above his bed with as much accuracy as possible. What a silly idea, really shows how young he actually was. It still stands beautiful to this day and overtime he learned about the stars above. He used to hope his friends would ask about it, so he’d have an excuse to share his knowledge. They never did.
“You’re my girlfriend?” This wasn’t something Itrapped ever mentioned before, sure he showed interest sometimes but it was always him trying to tell Chance that they would be a pretty girl or like, try to get him to dress up as one. Chance liked to explore their gender and how they presented but ‘girlfriend’— or feminine terms in general weren’t exactly his style. He never understood why Itrapped had this little obsession, it was mild but Chance has noticed it overtime. Which he’s with him all of the time. Itrapped doesn’t like to be alone.
But, that doesn’t mean Chance doesn’t want to understand. Maybe this will help it.
Itrapped’s gaze fell, now looking at the wall. “Don’t say it like a question.” It broke the immersion he wa in. If given the opportunity he’d take it back immediately.
“Sorry baby.” Chance gave up tryna make eye contact, instead moving back to his previous position. “I’m just a little confused.”
“…”
Itrapped didn’t respond, barely even moving. The only suggestion of life being his chest that rose and fell.
It gave Chance nothing to work with. After a moment of complete silence from both of them, Chance chose to sit up. Itrapped wasn’t even petting him anymore so he wasn’t losing anything. “Do you want to be my girlfriend?” He leaned forward on Chance’s chest.
This seemed to catch Itrapped’s attention, making him turn to look at chance finally. His face turned pretty pink, an expression Chance doesn’t really get to see. “Don’t say it like that.”
Aww, he’s embarrassed. “Why?” Chance tilted his head.
“It just…” he put a hand over his face, using his other one to help himself sit up. “It makes it sound like.. you’re asking me out.”
“Hm?” Chance tilted his head, an expression he copied from Itrapped.. then.. made a quiet giggle. That’s cute. They’re already dating.
Itrapped didn’t add anything else, just hid. “… you know I love you no matter what, right?”
“.. mhm.”
Chance stared at him, unsure what to do. Maybe he should get off, Itrapped does love his personal space but.. he hasn’t told Chance to get off. Instead he let his hand slide down to itrapped’s side.. sliding under the other’s shirt mindlessly. “You didn’t answer my question.”
Itrapped opened his fingers, peering at Chance between them. He still has those stupid ugly sunglasses on, it’s harder to tell what Chance is thinking. “… no?”
His voice wavered, causing him to just fall quiet again.
“Isa, are you.. sure?” Typically chance wouldn’t push something like this, but, Itrapped does kinda have a strange thing about.. this gender stuff, Chance knows how hard it is to figure it out.
His fingers brushed up against the side of Itrapped’s chest, feeling the other’s ribs poking out. It’s a gross feeling. “I’m not upset or anything, I just want you to be comfortable.”
Itrapped didn’t reply again, but the feeling of Chance rubbing him caused his shoulders to relax. He hates being touched, he hates how nice it feels.
The silence was loud.
“Baby, can you talk to me?” Chance took his hand back, making Itrapped miss his warmth almost immediately. A little click happened, making Itrapped set his hands down to see Chance took off his sunglasses. Underneath, his eyes were a beautiful dark brown.
He knows what this is. Itrapped likes to see his eyes, Chance knows this. They use it on special occasions, like a treat for a dog's trick. “Isa-“ but before he could put on his pathetic display and beg, Itrapped took the bait.
“I don’t know.” He snapped that one out quickly, looking away again. “Like. I do. But I don’t. I know I’m a man. Plus, then.. what about us?”
“Huh?”
“I mean. You’re gay.” That was one of their first conversations, how they were both gay. No attraction for women, as much as Itrapped hates Chance he really does love him. He doesn’t… wanna lose him.
“…” but that has nothing to do with being here. “I love you when you’re happiest.”
With no response from Itrapped, Chance chose to follow the other's gaze. It was just to a white wall, nothing actually interesting there.
At least Chance tried. “You can just talk to me when you’re ready.” He laid back down on Itrapped, hoping the atmosphere turns back to where it was earlier. Maybe if they’re lucky, Itrapped will pet them again.
