Luz was excited, she had finally gotten the letter she had been waiting for
Months ago, she had sent in an application hoping that she could get into their enrichment program that her dream school ran every year
Then, yesterday she had received correspondence that she had been accepted
Today, she was going to go and meet with one of the instructors, as they were going to give a tour of the campus
She was walking towards the bus stop, hoping to catch the next available transport to the school, when she noticed the girl around her age sitting on the small bench reading a textbook
Maybe this was going to be someone she was going to be in the program with!
The girl looked over as Luz sat down next to her, and then tried to turn her attention back to the textbook. She drummed her hands on her legs, but could not help realizing that the girl kept giving her small glances
Luz decided to try to start up a conversation
“Excuse me, I have to ask. Are you headed to Midtown High?”
The girl gave a small nod, and was doing her best to focus on her textbook
“Are you enrolled there or just doing the summer…”
Luz was drowned out by the sound of the revving engine, making her turn her attention to the street
A sports car was speeding down the pavement, a cop car close behind with their sirens blaring. Then, the worst care scenario happened. The mounted the curb to try to get around a car was not going fast enough for its liking, and barreled towards the small bench where the two were sitting
Instinct kicked in and Luz grabbed the girls hand and pulled her to her feet, and began to try to pull her away from the vehicular missile that was guided towards them
She knew it was going to be a long shot, seeing as it was travelling faster than she could move but she had to try!
She stepped around, getting in front of the girl so that it they did get hit she would must likely get most of the impact, and closed her eyes waiting for the pain that she was sure was about to course through her body.
She felt a tugging sensation, and felt herself lifted off the ground.
Her eyes opened, to find herself hanging from a nearby streetlamp, the girl she had tried to save hanging inches from her and looking at her wide eyed
Luz looked around, how did they…then she saw HIM. She had heard rumors of this man on the internet, but she thought it was all a hoax. But there he was, in his red and blue outfit, swinging away after the speeding car that had narrowly missed the pair
Luz then noticed that they had been wrapped up in what appeared to be a web which was keeping them suspended from the lamp above them
She could have sworn he yelled back at them as he vanished out of sight
“You can thank me later!”
Luz was snapped from the sight, when she heard the girl whisper
“You….tried to save me….”
Her head snapped around to see the woman staring at her, her face flushed for reason Luz wasn’t quite sure why
“I…well….sorta. I mean Spider-Man did all the saving…” She managed to blurt out
“Once we get down from here…maybe I can get you a coffee at the cafe near the school….to repay you?”
“Oh…um…okay! I’m Luz by the way.” She said, as the girl grinned at her
“Well, Luz. I’m Amity.”
