Peach Blossoms and Fireworks

Summary:

Day 08 / Free Day
_________________

The festival is in full swing, however, the evening skies are blank and quiet, the townsfolk wonder what keeps the firecracker away.

Notes:

Hola, my lovelies! This is more so a premise/tester to a story idea that I have. Not sure when it'll be started on a full scale, so I debated posting this, but decided to share it.

This spawned at work during a rough 24hr shift, haha.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Jinx leans against the rails of the chosen balcony, the wind bites and her shoulders hunch forward where her weight rests into her arms. A second passed, another, a presence, Jinx pouts her lips, turned her head away from them.

"You're late," she grumbled.

A sharp panic spiked through Lux, though she tried to remain calm outwardly despite her insides practically turning with alert. "I'm sorry, the winds took me down the wrong street! The people are always curious of the celestial, and the festivals are quite intriguing and unique for this year's celebrations, oh, their various of challenges, games, I tried very hard to bring you gifts, though, I had not succeeded, failure was quite...consistent..." Lux wrung her hands together nervously, eyes never straying from the other who refused to look at her, and somehow in their position, they had made a significant observation.

"You've let your braid go loose."

Immediately Lux flung her hands to said braid, searching for not it's woven design, but the fabric that held it in place at the ends. Relief flooded through her once she felt the familiar red ribbon still attached to her strands. Still, the memory and care that created the braid, that gifted the fabric, was essential that it would never be ruined. Relief was now replaced with the dreaded fear of consequence.

"What! No it isn't, it must have been the winds! They led me astray, and now they are trying to sabotage my devotion to you! I swear I would never let my braid loose on my own accord, here, I'll even rebraid it, right now, to make sure your tag remains true, I gave my word that—"

"Lux."

She froze, hands paused at the end of her newly woven braid, tightening the red tail in place securely, "Yes, my love?"

"I'm cold." Lux blinked, stared at the back of the woman's head before she dropped her hands and drew a deep breath in, and then exhaled slowly. "Yes, of course," with her eyes closed, she allowed her abilities that laid dormant arise, her once white, blank attire began to bleed and bloom with color, like a lantern, her being itself began to illuminate softly, Lux now stood like a shining, walking star amongst the shadows of the dark balcony, her body radiated warmth, steam curling from her skin and attire.

Lux stepped behind Jinx and began to loop her arms around their waist, pulling them gently from the rail and firmly against her chest, "The winds told me this year's winter would be much colder." She spoke quietly, adjusting her grip on the other woman carefully, tucked her chin by their neck and attempted another apology.

"I truly am sorry for being late, my love. My journey to you had been delayed, the frost had grown too heavy, too sharp on the path, people suffered famine and frostbites, the aid that usually follows me had been spread too thin for me to attend these events in the speed I would have liked, and I tried to—mmphf!?" Jinx spun around in her arms, and pulled their faces together to capture a long awaited kiss and spoke between pecks, "You're forgiven."

Lux sighed against her mouth, her stress partly relieved, her exhaustion to find her Sparky evident as she leaned heavily into them. Jinx found herself leaned slightly farther over the rail, but with Lux's hands bracketing her with a solid grip on said rail, she had no fears of falling, Jinx pulled back with a smirk as she looked at the dopey grin on the other's face. With a glance to the side, she chuckled.

"Darling, you're sprouting, again."  Lux dropped her mouth open in shock as she searched around to find, indeed, that her celestial powers had conjured various peach blossoms to begin opening around them, spreading across the floors, curling around the rails, climbing the pillars and even going as far as to reach the high ceiling.

Lux pout her lips, "I'm not sprouting..." she mummbled, Jinx snickered and pinched a pink, burning cheek, "Right, you're blooming." Lux's entire face went an absolute pink.

Jinx took mercy and rest her head against their shoulder, sagging into their embrace and soaking their warmth with greed. They stood like that for a moment, listening to the quiet chatter of the townsfolk and their festival clanks and songs, the winter winds that howled and the soft singing of wind chimes that followed.

"By the way, you aren't actually late." Jinx started, Lux opened her mouth to answer before a long sharp whistle sound shot into the sky, Lux watched it's spinning trajectory reach towards the stars, and Jinx could only snuggle in closer with a soft smile, "You're right on time."

The fireworks show had finally begun.
