Work Text:
The exam season brought a lot of troubles to Rimicha. Trying to pass each one of his exams was hard, he couldn't remember the time he had ever studied this intensely. The studying paid off though, and now he can finally rest and relax.
Except actually, he can't. Because this year, he's graduating.
One might think, isn't this the most relaxing time of all? Waiting for your graduation after successfully(or not so much, but the point stands) passing all the exams is the time of least worry, and it seems to be the case for everyone in his class. Unfortunately, Rimicha has a ton of troubles, all related to his graduation.
For starters, he's officially graduating knight school in less than two weeks, and still has no idea on what to do next. There's no way a Lord will take somebody as weak as him as their Fragaria, but he still has to find a job sooner or later, and it's better be sooner.
The second problem, one that honestly is bothering him the most out of these two, is Sanah.
It was obvious even before Rimicha asked that his boyfriend is from another country. Honestly, Rimicha should be grateful that they're even from the same continent, but even this thought can't lift his mood for too long.
See, if you ever looked at the map of Red Continent, you'd realise just how far Kirimichan's kingdom is from U*SA*HA*NA's, and it's just mainland. So, going from home to Sanah's place isn't something that he can just do casually whenever he wanted.
And Sanah... He seems to have it all figured out. His HA*NA-chan is waiting for him to come back to knight him, so there's no way Sanah will be able to go back and forth between their kingdoms on a whim.
Besides, would he even want to? Just think about it! Sanah's one step away from becoming a Fragaria. He's going to be a big deal now, and Rimicha? He's probably going to be nothing. Would Sanah even want for their relationship to continue into his new life?
It was fun while it lasted, sure. Sanah seemed to be happy and content with their relationship while they were studying, but school romance is much different from whatever they will have, if stars align, going forward.
Frankly speaking, Rimicha doesn't really think that he's worth it. Worth being loved by his most lovely boyfriend.
Sanah is so kind, after all. He accepted Rimicha's feelings, he's the most gentle and attentive partner a boy could want, he makes Rimicha's dorm room a home without even realising it. And what is Rimicha? Just a sorry loser without any future ahead of him.
Deep into his worries, Rimicha doesn't notice any movement around himself, until big hands embrace him in a warm hug from behind.
"Hi, Sanah." He squeezes out a smile, trying to take his mind off his thoughts and closer to enjoying his boyfriend's presence. After all, he can never know when the unsuspicious hug will become the last— Stop, that's not right. He decided to not think about this, remember?
Rimicha feels a gentle kiss on the back of his head. "Hi, Rimicha. Have you been waiting long?"
Rimicha subconsciously leans into the touch. No worry could ever make him stop enjoying his boyfriend's embrace, after all.
"I didn't, don't worry!" He smiles, and it's silly—Sanah can't see his expression from this angle—, but Rimicha can't help himself. Putting on this smile so Sanah won't worry. "So, do you want to get to playing...? I could get some drinks and snacks first!"
It's one of their little hangouts(dates, maybe? Rimicha isn't sure if they classify) at Rimicha's place. They regularly spend time together, playing one of the silly duo games he has saved just for Sanah. It's not that he has anyone else to play them with, and being with Sanah is always good.
"Don't worry, I brought some with me." Sanah laughs as he takes out all the goodies and goes to place them on the coffee table. Rimicha misses the warms of the hug.
Hey, he has to stop feeing this way. Rimicha boots up the game and shuffles to the side, waiting for Sanah to join him in front of the controllers, which he soon does.
It's fun, playing with Sanah. Spending time with him in general, really. The game Rimicha ended up choosing this time is pretty hard, and in sweating and trying to get through the story Rimicha is able to forget all about his troubles.
It doesn't take long for them to resurface though, when they take a break and just hug together. They're not even on the couch or bed—just lying on the carpet, Rimicha on top of Sanah, tracing idle circles on his chest.
These thoughts... They're not fun at all. They keep making Rimicha anxious, invading his previous Sanah time(and every Sanah time might as well be the last one, remember!).
Thinking about it like this, maybe he should address them. Sanah is so kind, after all.
"Hey, Sanah."
"Hmm? What is it on your mind?" Sanah, like a perfect boyfriend he is, seems to suspect that the topic Rimicha is trying to bring up is heavy. If he doesn't, well he's a perfect boyfriend nonetheless, squeezing Rimicha's sides a bit, as in in reassurance.
"I've been thinking... What's going to happen after this?"
"I'd go to my dorm room as usual?" Sanah cocks his head. "Oh, unless you wanted me to sleep over? If you want me to—" He doesn't finish the sentence, for Rimicha places his index fingers on his lips.
"I'm not talking about right now." He sighs. "I mean... After graduation. How is all of this," Rimicha gestures to both himself and Sanah. "going to be after graduation?"
At the question, Sanah stills for a moment. The only movement he makes is hugging Rimicha even tighter, but other than that, there's nothing for an agonizing minute. It feels like an eternity.
"Does something need to change?" Sanah speaks up finally. His eyes are genuine.
"I mean, it's bound to! You'll be a Fragaria now, surely it's a busy job. And me..." He trails off, suddenly too embarrassed to finish the sentence.
"Rimicha?" There's a hand on his cheek. Sanah's hands are big, and it feels like half of Rimicha's face is being engulfed in this familial warmth.
"And me... I'm not going to be anything, am I? Is there even a place for someone like me in your life?" The sound of his voice is barely louder than a whisper, but it's loud enough for Sanah to hear him. They're really close right now, after all.
Rimicha's trying his hardest not to sound too sad, but the tears form under his eyelids anyway. Speaking all of this into existence makes it scarier.
Sanah sits up at this, Rimicha naturally shifting to sitting on his lap. He tries to hide his gaze, but Sanah lifts his head, and Rimicha has no other choice than to look at him.
"Some things in how often we'll hang out are bound to change, but that doesn't mean we have to break up things." This time, the tears spill over, and Rimicha can feel Sanah's fingers wiping them.
He shouldn't be crying. It's such a silly thought to cry about, at least when it comes to someone as kind as Sanah. And still, no matter how he tries, Rimicha can't stop the tears from falling.
"I love you, Rimicha. That's not changing just because we're graduating." Sanah's lips find Rimicha's forehead in a gentle touch. "I know we can make this work, no matter what. Also, don't say anything this mean about yourself, okay? You're going to be someone incredible, I know it."
Tears burst from his eyes, both from joy and finally letting go of his anxieties, and Rimicha hugs Sanah with all his might. He might be the luckiest person ever, for having someone like this in his life.
"I love you too!" He all but shouts, muffled by Sanah's chest.
His boyfriend laughs, and it's the best sound in the world, and lifts Rimicha's head again, placing a gentle kiss on his lips.
Yes, Rimicha really is the happiest person in the world.
