Diagnosing the princess (discontinued)

Summary:

Twilight’s friends have always noticed the traits of autism and anxiety, but everyone assumed that she just didn’t say anything about it, so imagine their shock when spike says she’s never even considered it.

Notes:

Gad means generalized anxiety disorder, btw.

Chapter 1: She doesn’t know?

Chapter Text

Spike was talking about some of his older memories with Twilight, upon the request of the other main 5 and Starlight. “I’m convinced Twi is the only pony who doesn’t realize she has autism and GAD.” He chuckled, but non of the others were laughing. “What? I thought it was funny.” He looked around. “She doesn’t know?” Starlight asked. “Yeah, she doesn’t, our parents get extremely defensive if you try to talk about the possibility of it.” He mumbled, head lowering. “I get why, they don’t want her to get treated poorly, but, she’s a princess, and even before then, she’s was Celestia’s pupil, and saved equestria. Someone would be out of their mind to treat her poorly.” His voice grew firm. “We, should probably try to convince her to get diagnosed.” Fluttershy mumbled, and everyone nodded. “Yeah, understanding can help a lot, especially for some pony like Twily!” Pinkie exclaimed. “Well, why wait?” Rainbow Dash asked, zooming inside. “Wait! She’d panic!” Spike called out, flying after her, the other ponies chasing her.

Twilight’s reading a book, not really paying attention to anything. “Twilight!” Rainbow called out and she jumped, slightly, wings flaring slightly. “You scared me Rainbow. What’s wrong, did something happen? Girls…?” She said, voice growing nervous. “Was there a villain, is their a problem?” She asked. “No twilight, it’s not that it’s…“ Fluttershy started, before stopping. “How do I say this?” She whispered. “You seriously don’t realize you have autism and GAD!?” Rainbow Dash exclaimed, and all of them looked at her. “Rainbow! You weren’t supposed to say it like that!” Applejack yelled. “What…?” Twilight asked. It made sense, so much sense, explained nearly everything. “Why’d no one— why didn’t they— were they—?” She stammered, breathing going shallow, tears welling up, heart racing. Spike rushed to her side. “Twilight, listen to me. Breathe in and out, copy me.” He began to breathe slow and deep, a rhythm she could follow, and slowly, she began to calm down. “Thank you Spike.” She whispered. “I’m just, confused. Why did no one say anything?” She asked. “Because, our parents didn’t want you to be treated differently because of it.” Spike responded. “I’m sorry Twi, I got impatient and just wanted you to know.” Rainbow Dash whispered. “It’s fine Rainbow.” Twilight whispered. “So what now?” She asked.
