Chapter Text
MK had learned quite a lot about Monkey King during his time on Flower Fruit Mountain. The most important thing being how physically exhausting it is to be THE Sun Wukong’s successor. He thought working at Pigsy’s noodle shop was difficult enough, but now? Any time he has off goes to his training.
Don’t get him wrong, he’s ecstatic considering he was handed Monkey King’s staff less than a month ago and was learning a bunch of abilities like his gold vision, and creating clones out of himself from his own hair. But jeez, it was exhausting.
Despite this, he’s managed to find time where he can sit down with Monkey King and ask a small portion of his long list of questions about the immortal peach-loving monkey, Iwhom is always happy to answer. This was one of those times.
“But I thought you hated the Demon Bull King?”
Wukong chuckled, glancing at MK as he dangled his legs over the ledge of the mountain, overlooking the city. “I never said that. He was more of a thorn in my side than anything. We were close once, being my sworn brother and all, but you can’t really let a rampaging demon bull rome around to destroy everything. It’s not a great look.”
“I guess. But then he escaped again.” Mk sighed.
“And he was dealt with, thanks to you. I wouldn’t have chosen you as my successor if I didn’t think you could handle something like that. Plus, I think your whole thing with Redson has kind of put our rivalry on a truce.”
MK couldn’t do anything to hide the red rising to his cheeks. “But- that’s- it’s not-...Yeah. I guess.” MK looked up at his mentor with a hint of understanding. Then his phone buzzed. His eyes widened slightly from the startle before he took the device from his pocket.
“It’s Mei.” He takes a second to read through the message. “She said Pigsy closed a bit early so they could all come see how training is going.”
“WHAT? We’ve been over this! I don’t like people I don’t know on my island. Plus, I don’t want to be bombarded with questions from your friends.”
“I can tell them to leave…buuut.” MK held out the word as he turned his phone to Wukong to show the message. “They’re bringing noodles and snacks.”
Wukong looked at MK, then back at the phone before he let out an annoyed groan. “Fineee. But if they touch or break anything, I’m taking the food and flying away.” Wukong ruffled Mk’s hair as he stood up, finishing his sentence.
MK chuckled as he responded, swatting the monkey’s hands away from his now even more messy hair. “Alright!”
30 minutes later, Wukong and MK are pulled from their conversation by the sound of a van coming to a stop. Mei hops out first, letting out a woop as she ran over and jumped onto MK. “There’s my favorite monkey!”
Wukong chuckled. He turned to walk around the loudly chatting duo, but when he turned, he let out a yelp of surprise. A slim man who stood a few inches over MK, was standing right next to him, eyes sparkling with wonder. For a split second, Wukong saw his previous master. This man, named Tang if he remembered correctly from what MK has said, leaned close and spoke too quickly for him to understand.
“ohmigoshitsthemonkeyking!IhavesomanyquestionsbutwheredoIstart?Oh!HowabouttheverybeginningoftheJourneytotheWest!I’llreadeverypageandyoucananswerquestionsaswego-” A hand was slapped over the man’s mouth before he could continue.
“Jeez, Tang, let the man breathe. We’ve been here for 10 seconds. Come help me get the food from the car.” Wukong recognized the man as Pigsy from MK’s stories, but he still couldn’t shake the resemblance of another pig demon Wukong knew. He chose to ignore it for now. Pigsy dragged the man by the collar back to the car, where a large blue man was taking plastic bags containing styrofoam boxes out of the backseat. “Sandy, bring those over there white I get out the other bags.”
Only then did Wukong realize how much food was available. His stomach growled but befor ehe could move, MK ran over. The Monkey King was aware of the fact MK was pointing at each of his friends to formally introduce each one, but Wukong was so hungry that the words faded to the background.
The night went by relatively quick. The sun was setting as they were finishing up eating. Wukong had laid out a blanket outside for them to sit and eat. There were dozens of questions, as expected, but it seemed to not be as bad as he assumed it would be. He enjoyed himself a lot more in general. He was a bit lost on some jokes that MK needed to explain were from the internet, but Wukong caught on quickly.
As people began standing up and cleaning the trash, Mei spoke. “Y’know, I can’t help but wonder what you’ve been doing alone for so long. I mean, an island to yourself for hundred of years? I’m surprised you don’t have some form of company.”
Wukong blinked a few times as he picked up some of the leftover food to store in his fridge. “What do you mean? I haven’t been alone the entire time like a psycho.”
The others looked at him in confusion, especially MK. “I haven’t seen anyone except the monkeys my entire time here!” He gasped in mock offense. “What have you been hiding from me????”
Monkey King stared at them for a second before his posture relaxed with realization and a long ‘ohhhhhh’. “I always forget that you all get your information from the Journey to the West book. But actually I-”
Before Wukong could explain, Tang screamed. Everyone turned to see where he was looking and they saw a darker haired simian, about the same height as Wukong, a bag went across his body and to his hip, filled with what seemed to be groceries.
“Am I interrupting?” His voice was smooth and slightly mocking.
Tang explained, voice filled with terror.” Th-that’s the Six Eared Macaque! He must be here to fight the Monkey King! He’s gonna kill us all!-” Tang was cut off when Wukong shoved past him to run to the figure.
MK took the staff from his ear, shifting to a fighting stance just in case. But his shoulders sank slightly in confusion as the king picked up the other by the hips and spun him around before lowering him back down and kissing him. He pulled back with a smile.
“You weren’t supposed to be back for another 2 weeks!”
“Well, I got out of the meeting a bit early and wanted to go to grab a few things from the demon market before coming home. Who knows how long it’s been since you've gotten groceries.”
“I missed you so much.”
Wukong chuckled, his hands cupping Macaque’s face. His thoughts pulled to MK as the kid finally spoke. “Monkey King? What’s happening?”
Only then did the two monkeys realize the shocked expressions displayed across the group.
Macaque pulled back and looked over at Mk, tilting his head with a smirk. “I’m assuming this is the kid?”
“Yep.”
Everyone was silent for a second before Tang spoke to Macaque. “So…You aren’t going to kill us?”
“Why would I do that?”
“But- you’re supposed to be dead- Wukong killed you-” Their jaws dropped more as they noticed the matching rings on each monkey’s finger. The group exclaimed in unison.
"YOU'RE MARRIED?
