At first it wasn’t a problem. But they were completely crushing the other team and yet Loki’s attention wasn’t on Hugo.
Instead she was busy, competing with a girl on the opposite team with number 8 on her jersey. Maybe some words got under Loki’s skin and hurt her ego, but perhaps the bigger possibility was that Loki was interested in her.
Because what Hugo was witnessing through the whole match was textbook flirting. And it was bothering her more than it should've.
Number 8 was pressing herself against Loki’s back the whole match and now she was whispering something into her ear with a sly smirk. Hugo froze in the middle of the pitch, unwilling to move at the sight. Her stomach sank - a really uncomfortable feeling that was new to Hugo.
She couldn't help but blankly stare as Loki and that girl fought for the ball. They were touching and grabbing each other intensely. Hugo hated how much she noticed. It was part of the game, but yet there was no reason for number 8 to linger around Loki and cling to her the whole time.
Hugo didn’t register the ball flying into her direction. Loki directed a pass to her, but she wasn’t focused enough on the actual game to analyse her position.
Caught off guard Hugo awkwardly ran forward with the ball just to get it stolen right under her feet.
She felt Loki’s disappointment across the field, but her only option was to continue playing even with a sorrow feeling and hope that her lack of focus wasn’t going to sell the game when they were so close.
Number 8 was still with Loki, trying to block her in any way, practically grinding against her. Hugo wanted for the game to just end already.
“What is it with you?” Loki asked during the halftime break.
Hugo looked down at the ground, ignoring the question directed to her. She couldn’t explain anything she felt. It was irrational. And Loki wouldn't like that.
“Nothing.”
“If it’s nothing, then why are you not using your given talent?”
Loki crossed her arms. Hugo could tell she was displeased and all that was Hugo's fault.
Vivian rubbed her neck, remaining silent. She hated seeing the look on Loki’s face. But she didn't say anything else.
Sweat was running down Loki's face, her hair already was messy from the intense game and her shirt was drenched in sweat, clinging to her body. Loki took chugs from the water looking like a goddess effortlessly. Everything about her was perfect.
But Hugo wasn’t the only one approaching the beauty because from across the field number 8 was staring directly at Loki.
Hugo tensed up, stepping closer to Loki in an attempt to hopefully block that girl’s view with her tall body.
“I’ll try to take care of number 8,” Hugo said in a lower voice. She didn’t intend it to sound so angry.
Her eyes locked with Loki who furrowed her brows, looking oblivious to Hugo's unjustified hatred. She was actually considering it.
"No, that’s not gonna work. We already have a strategy.”
Hugo never disagreed with Loki. But in that moment some selfish desire in her wanted to abandon the principe. She wanted to overcome number 8 and to show that she was the number 1 in Loki's life.
Hugo opened her mouth to object but then lightly slapped herself. She came to a realisation that just now she had a thought process of a person who fought preordained destiny. This game was messing with Hugo’s mind.
“What the hell?” Loki reacted with concern.
She gently reached out to touch Hugo's cheek where a small red mark appeared.
“Don’t mind me.”
Loki’s direct gaze was pressuring. She was trying to figure out what was wrong, analysing Hugo’s every movement.
“I need you for this game,” Loki said with a softer voice, “number 8 is really focused on me right now.”
Hugo let out a hum. Focused was not the right word for whatever that was. But Hugo put her feelings aside because Loki needed her to control the field now.
“Understood.”
Until the final whistle blew Hugo tried to stay as concentrated as she could. They won with an excellent play and Hugo did remarkably well in the second half.
Their team gathered to celebrate together. Hugo immediately ran to her goddess before anyone else could and wrapped her arms around her neck, almost possessively. Both of them were breathing heavily and were uncomfortably sweaty, but Loki still returned the hug just as tightly. Only for her Vivian.
“You can let go now,” Loki said, letting out a small laugh. Everyone else were already shaking hands and heading off the pitch.
Hugo unwillingly slid her hands off Loki’s body. And of course Loki went to exchanged a shake hand with number 8 who said something to Loki with blush on her face. And by Hugo’s calculations that handshake lasted longer than just a normal exchange between players.
Hugo was pissed again, her chest feeling tight. She quickly got off the pitch into the locker room and sat down on the bench, pretending to be unbothered. She needed a few moments to calm herself down.
Was was that feeling? Hugo didn't like to feel like she was getting replaced. She didn't like to feel something out of the ordinary.
People were walking around the locker room, exchanging chatter with happy energy while Hugo sat in her own world, having an inner monologue.
Someone threw a towel at her face. Hugo looked up mechanically, her hair was sticking to her face and blocking her vision a little, but of course, it was Loki.
"So are you going to explain what happened?" Juliana asked.
She sat down next to Hugo, legs crossed and she patiently waited for a reply while Hugo was whipping her face.
"I've never seen you lose your composure before."
There wasn't anything to deny anymore.
"Number 8 was flirting with you," Hugo stated.
Loki's face didn't show any surprise or emotion, "hm, really?" She said uninterested.
Hugo nodded, "from what I could tell she was looking at you and was constantly close to you… she was into you. What do you think about that?"
That image was captured perfectly in Hugo's eyes. And it was making her dig her nails into her own soft skin.
"I'm actually more surprised that you noticed. You aren't really good at social clues."
Loki smiled, her expression showing adoration. She pressed a hand to her chin and tilted her head slightly, curiously observing Hugo.
And she was right. Hugo was not good in understanding things without any logic behind them. But she was certain this time because she saw that craving for Loki's attention in number 8's eyes.
"I understand her. But what do you think about it?"
Loki said nothing for a moment and continued staring at Hugo with that puzzled expression.
"I don't care," Loki said simply, "and I don't think she's worth my attention… Why? Does it bother you?"
Loki looked oblivious still.
Hugo swallowed. She was feeling stupid and irrational. She wasn't sure if Loki would understand, but she desperately wanted to get that feeling out.
"I am jealous," Hugo admitted.
"What?" Loki let out a noise something like a laugh. She looked stunned.
She waited for Hugo to elaborate on that, but she didn't know what to add.
"That's it," she muttered.
Hugo looked at how Loki's face changed. Her face was slightly turning pink.
Vivian moved closer and closer and placed a hand on Loki's chest to satisfy her touch starvation. Loki's breath got heavier with each small touch, but she didn't object.
"But Vivian, you don't have to get jealous... You are mine."
Loki passed a hand trough Hugo's hair while she was clinging to her jersey. Hugo felt tension easing in her body.
"Am I not replaceable to you?" Hugo asked out of desperation and last resort of insecurity in her.
"Honestly, I've never met a person whose dream was as adorably tyrannic as mine."
Loki pulled Hugo closer by her chin. Hugo breathlessly stared at her, her eyes shooting up and down, not knowing on what perfect feature to focus.
"My destiny-"
"And nobody was ever such significant part of my existence."
Loki smiled softly. That was when their lips touched in a tender kiss. Hugo tried to capture every spot of those soft, plump lips in the few second.
She suddenly got pulled back on her feet by Loki's strong grip. She gave in without saying anything and they passed trough their teammates who were completely oblivious that they just shared a kiss in a public locker room.
Loki pulled Hugo in one of the empty shower rooms, pushing her against the wall lightly.
"I don't think the others should be seeing that," Loki said with a giggle.
Hugo didn't care, she would probably let Loki do whatever she wanted with her in front of everyone, but understandably, it was better to keep their business private if it affected Loki's career in anyway.
Hugo stared at her goddess in that tiny space. She didn't know where to start, but her hands smoothly settled on Loki's hips.
Loki's long nails dig into Loki's back and pulled her closed until they could feel each other's breath.
"I didn't take you for a jealous type. But it's kind of cute…" Loki's face darkened, "you can show me how much you worship me," she whispered.
Hugo's hand on Loki's body tightened. It was an easy demand. Everything that Loki did was worshipped by Hugo. She would kiss the ground Juliana walked on.
Hugo's overwhelming love was difficult to express in words. She leaned into another kiss, this time grabbing the back of Loki's head to bring her as close as possible into their hungry exchange. They devoured each other's mouths with passion they shouldn't have had after such an exhausting game.
Hugo's hand finally moved to explore every curve of Loki's body.
"I adore every inch of your body," Hugo whispered.
She pulled Loki's shirt over her head and stared at the sight that she perhaps deeply desired for a long time.
Vivian moved lower to kiss the beautiful, soothing skin, making sure not to miss any spot that number 8 filthy hands had touched Loki at.
"I hated seeing the way she looked at you… at your godly-given beauty."
Hugo heard Loki's repressed moan from the tender kisses on her lower stomach.
"You are a goddess in my eyes."
Loki let out a noise of pleasure at those words. She placed hands on both sides of Hugo's face and held an affectionate eye contact. They both stopped moving for a moment.
"I love you, Vivian," Loki declared in a a genuine voice.
She pushed the Hugo against the wall more firmly and placed small kisses across Hugo's face and jaw. Vivian thought her brain was going to explode from all the intense emotions.
"I love you… too," she muttered breathlessly.
Suddenly Loki stopped, still gripping onto Hugo's shirt. They both silently listened to the voices near by. In that moment Hugo was hearing her heartbeat more loudly.
"Juliana, are you here? Number 8 - the captain from another team wants to talk to you."
Before Loki could process the words, Hugo already pulled her into another deep kiss, not letting go of her. Hopefully the others didn't hear them and if they did maybe they would tell number 8 Loki had more important things to do.
