🇫🇷 Paris Saint-Germain | Louis de Saint-Germain ▪️ His family name “Saint-Germain” comes from Stade saint-germanois, the club’s predecessor, the golden fleur-de-lis and cradle on whose crest symbolize Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the birthplace of Louis XIV. And obviously, Louis XIV – along with the glorious or notorious French monarches – is his namesake. ▪️ Founded in the suburb of Paris as “The People’s Club”, he was born fierce, upright and uncompromising, even willing to sacrifice his fortune and stadium in order to preserve the “Saint-Germain” in his name. However, after a series of betrayal first by the Paris government and then by his mentor-slash-comrade-turned-enemy Marseille (cf. 1993 bribery scandal), he was disillusioned and eventually signed a devil’s pact with the Qatari who, like him, were traditionally looked down upon by the football world. ▪️ After seizing the power, his ruthlessness bordered on maniac. When he set his eyes on a player, he would threw a tantrum like a child crying in a toy store… Yet his money-above-all approach gradually stopped working. He fell into total despair, but on that rainy Champions League night in 2025 when he faced Manchester City, he finally remembered what he had once been pursuing and at last grew into the new king of Europe and his lost old self.
▪️ He is still very young. Although he has now finally attained enlightenment (sort of) and mostly recovered the fair, righteous character of his early years, he still occasionally reveals a childish, arrogant side. |
