Fuji Kiseki paced back and forth in the common room. Her eyes darted to the clock on the wall. 2:59 A.M. She had checked her records to see which umamusume were in the dorms sleeping now. Everyone was back safe, except one. Marvelous Sunday. She had gone out to get lunch. Now, she had been out all day, and it was raining. Fuji's mind raced with possibilities of her catching a cold out there... But, the moment that the clock struck three, the door opened.
Marvelous Sunday came inside. Her usual pigtails were a disheveled mess. Rare, for the copious amounts of hairspray she used usually kept them tidy. The aerosol cans set off the smoke alarm in the dorms once... Her iconic red ribbon she never took off was dirty, and so was her tracksuit. However, Fuji noticed, Marvelous Sunday wasn't wet. Not a drop of water had gotten on her, and she wasn't holding an umbrella...
"Marvelous-san, where have you been?" Fuji's tone was full of plenty of confusion at the small uma's state, but she tried to steady herself and sound more stern.
Marvelous Sunday mumbled, trying to formulate a response, but Fuji couldn't understand a word. Her voice was groggy with sleep, and lower than normal, but more than that, whatever she was saying simply sounded like complete gibberish. After answering with what she seemed to think was an adequate response, Marvelous Sunday promptly collapsed on the common room couch.
Fuji was beyond being scolding now. Mostly, she was wildly confused. In spite her small stature, Fuji knew Marvelous Sunday could hold her own, and then some. Fuji's mind ran a bit with what possibly could have happened.
"Oh my..." Fuji mumbled to herself, getting a sleepy hum from Marvelous Sunday as reply, "Allow me to help you, Marvelous."
Despite her clear exhaustion, those words brought a bright smile to Marvelous Sunday's face. "Fuji's kindness is marvelous... mm..." She beamed. No matter the circumstances, Marvelous Sunday seemed to constantly glow with positivity, lighting up the darkness of the common room after hours. Fuji had always admired that smile, and how it brought joy to so many people. As an entertainer, smiles were essential to putting on a good show, both the audience's and the performer's. Marvelous' smile, Fuji thought to herself in that moment, was the most bright and beautiful one she'd seen.
As she thought that, Fuji Kiseki stood, taking Marvelous Sunday's hand in her own. Well, if it made Marvelous happy, may as well put on a good show...
Fuji got down on one knee, and once she did, kissed the back on Marvelous' hand in hers. "I shall carry you to your sleeping quarters, Marvelous." Fuji mused, launching up from kneeling and scooping Marvelous into her arms, in a bridal carry. Marvelous giggled the whole time. It was an adorable sound to Fuji's ears.
"But," Marvelous protested, "Nature is sleeping, Fuji..."
She wasn't wrong. Nature had some trouble sleeping, and to hear Marvelous Sunday clanging around this late would surely wake her.
"What are you suggesting, Marvelous?"
"Hmm... Can I stay in Fuji's room?" She asked, "Fuji doesn't have a roommate, right? Fuji gets her own private leader dorm room...!"
As she spoke, some of her usual excitement seemed to come back into her... But not much. Fuji was certainly willing to let Marvelous sleep over, but...
"Marvelous, I don't have another bed or anything... Unless you'd be willing to sleep with me, Pony-chan?" Fuji Kiseki added the last bit with a teasing wink. To her surprise, Marvelous Sunday responded without any hesitation at all.
"Okay..." She muttered, leaning into Fuji's arms. Fuji Kiseki, stunned, began walking towards her room. She'd never actually... Had anyone over, before.
"Hey, hey, why is Fuji blushing?" Marvelous asked.
"No reason," Fuji replied quickly, "I am... glad you are back. I was worried about you, you know."
Marvelous nodded, and Fuji Kiseki sat her down on the edge of the bed in Fuji's dorm. Marvelous Sunday's eyes shined, holding that same awe she looked at everything in the world with, an unfettered wonder for all things, as she looked around.
"Fuji's room is so big!" She exclaimed, though still with sleepiness in her voice, "You should throw a party in here!"
Fuji laughed. "I would love to get everyone together, but... That would make a real mess, wouldn't it?" As she said it, she began digging through her dresser, and pulled out a spare pair of the school's pajamas.
"Uuu... I'll help you clean up! I bet it'd be really marvelous to have a party!" She said. Fuji couldn't help but admire her. Marvelous Sunday had a wonderful ability of always thinking of others, rather, always thinking of the collective good before anything else.
"If you promise to keep me company, I suppose we could arrange something..." Fuji returned to Marvelous Sunday's side on the bed, placing the pajamas to the side.
"May I?" She asked, taking the zipper of Marvelous Sunday's tracksuit between her thumb and her pointer. Marvelous giggled a bit, sleepily, and nodded. Fuji Kiseki unzipped her jacket, removed it from her shoulders.
"Let me show you a magic trick, Marvelous. Put your arms up for me?" Fuji spoke quietly. "Okay!" Marvelous Sunday lifted her arms quickly. then, in one smooth motion, Fuji Kiseki grabbed the pajama shirt, opened it up, and draped on onto Marvelous' body.
"Woaaaah!" Marvelous Sunday exclaimed, "It wasn't on, and then it was!! How'd you do it, Fuji?"
"Just a little slight of hand, Pony-chan." Fuji Kiseki winked at her. "Now, just because you get home late doesn't mean you can neglect brushing your teeth. Why don't you go do that?"
As Marvelous Sunday rushed off to brush her teeth, Fuji Kiseki gathered up her dirty tracksuit, tossing it into the wash with some of her own laundry.
“What am I going to do with that one…”
