University For Mateless

Summary:

The University for the Mateless has everything; heartbreak, ancient mating myths, hopeless crushes, terrible life choices, and scientifically modified traditions. Yet, Jungkook gets tangled up with an infuriating omega who hates him on sight, a friend group that's permanently one inconvenience away from disaster, and questions nobody seems willing to answer. What starts as a petty rivalry quickly turns into an obsession to unveil the truths, as Jungkook finds himself drawn to the one person who wants absolutely nothing to do with him. Unfortunately, the more he learns about Taehyung, the less he knows about his own kind.

Notes:

Some had lost their mate,
some had none in their fate.
Some greatly despised,
they were so love-denied.
All them unfortunate,
enter one welcoming gate.

But not for those young two,
being love-less, a fortune for whom.
How is the pain supposed to alleviate,
when mating is the most they hate?

Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Selcouth- Unfamiliar, strange, rare yet marvelous.

Chapter Text

The boy with pale, stale complexion, as bleak as a lifeless floating body that once had blooming pinker hues, strides down the busy street with shoulders melted forward like a collapsed cake tier.

The chime of the bell from the pharmacy he exited minutes ago still rings in his ears. He cringes wondering how sluggishly he must be walking for that to happen, reminiscing the bouncy hop there once used to be in every step.

The habit of swirling like a happy tornado was what he was known for, not the milk churning sourness in his aura. The dark red-cross across his heart, invisible to the naked eye, or any eye, had imprinted on every organ, he supposed.

In hindsight, the memory of absolutely nothing, taunts him with constant projection of the once possible, and now the unobtainable, the lost hope.

He unlocked the door to the much foreseen sight of the twins running around the hall as jubilant as they always are, his mother packing a few boxes of homemade snacks in one bag exclusively for munchies as dedicated as she always is, his father dragging the big suitcase down the stairs from his room as diligent as he always is.

All these bags and suitcases didn't bother him, not the slightest. His real fear was the baggage he was to carry on his shoulders. That one thing.

The one thing that hadn't let him crane up his neck on the streets. The one he had defeated his parents' prospects for their first born with. The one he had shamed them with.

And what slits him down and pains like melted wax on an open wound is that he didn't even do anything to have that bestowed upon him and his family. He did nothing to become the shame that he is.

"You're thinking too much again, honey." The symphony of his favorite voice compiled with the tenderness of his favorite touch broke him out of his own quicksand. His mother smiles at him.

The silhouette of his father towered above his naturally petite frame that had shrunk significantly smaller over the past two years. "Son, I know you think that you let us down and you're only leaving for our sake but haven't I told you time and time again that isn't the case?"

"Taehyungie, my baby, you keep presuming you are doing us a favor by leaving, but trust me when I say this, you will return thanking us for forcing you to go there. You have no idea what it's like to have a mate."

"I do have an idea mom. I had one, remember?" he spoke as his words came harsher than he intended. He side-eyed the sullen faces of his parents. "I know it wasn't my fault, but at least it was my fate! You both along with Jae and Chan, you all did nothing to bear the humiliation that accompanies this."

His father had only begun to shake his head in denial of the obvious when he was stopped by the boy tossing at him the car keys "It doesn't matter why I'm going there. It only matters that I'm going away and you all can finally live. Let's go!"

******

The suffocating silence in the car with his 'father' was infiltrating his nostrils and brimming his lungs in absolute despair. The will to escape the vehicle circled his neck like hangman's noose and choked him brazenly.

The momentum of the car's halt finally granted him the oxygen his lungs were begging for. He quickly put on the backpack he had kept in the middle to impart as much distance between the man and him as possible and got ready to flee out when a stringent hand circled his wrist severely.

"Jack, step out. I need to have a word with him." The monotony in his voice is all he had heard over years so it would actually be a surprise to hear a deviation from it.

Jack, the driver, immediately complied leaving him behind with the man who was like oil to his water. They could never mix.

"Now listen here. You better be sincere for the first damn time in your life if you wish to keep them cards that fill your wallet and give you this arrogance to look straight into my eyes. By the end of this shit you better have a compliant omega by your feet. Understand?"

He nodded only to have his wrist bent backwards. Not like the senile man was strong enough to actually induce pain. Not physical atleast. Mental was another story. "Jeon Jungkook, I said, understand?" he enunciated.

He bruxed his jaws so hard that the electrocution of his passive anger shot till his ears. Clenching his grip around his backpack straps he grit out "Yes, father."

"Now fuck away from my eyes! Disgrace of an alpha."

And with that he stepped out of the suffocating lavish car. Taking his bags from Jack, he stepped forward into the giant gateway flooding in and out with people of all ages, shapes, and designations.

National University for the Mateless

Welcomes the new batch!!

He rolled his eyes looking at the hoarding and looked around once again observing another pair of eyes accompanying him in scrutinizing the same, but instead they held adoration in place of the disgust that he has.

Feeling the eyes on himself the boy looked back at him and smiled. "Excited?"

He scoffed, shaking his head. The boy extended his hand ignoring the brash reply. "Park Jimin. Alpha." he introduced.

"Jeon Jungkook. Alpha as well." he shook his hand with a curt nod.

"Nice to meet you. I see you only just arrived, so you better go find your dorm room. I'll see you around?"

"Sure." he said and they both parted ways with him walking towards the check-in counter stall arranged behind the gates.

"Yo, Jungkook!" he heard Jimin call out, so he turned around now walking backwards. "Stop by dorm 185 before dinner time. We'll go together."

"Roger." he spoke and spun around just in time for a head-on collision with another boy who was carrying way too many bags for his capabilities and was still trying to wave at a man standing far in the parking lot.

"Fucking hell" the only words that splurted out from his mouth as his hand went to compress the banged head. He squinted his eyes open to see  the boy that he collided with sitting on the floor with legs stretched out holding his head between both hands.

"Hey, are you okay?" he bent down still rubbing his head, pain almost subsided. "Are you having a concussion?"

"I think I'll be okay once this floor stops spinning." the boy grips his head tighter. Jungkook almost flinched at how deep the voice was for such a meager frame.

He lifted his head up trying to blink away the darkened world and then looked back at the boy he had the accident with.

"Better?" Jungkook spoke out.

The boy only stared back at him in a tinge of shock in his eyes and then perhaps… anger? He hastily picked up his bags and sprinted to the check-in counter, kicking away one of Jungkook's bags in the process.

"What?"
Too baffled by the sudden reaction, Jungkook picked up his tossed bag along with the others and rushed after the boy, their destination being the same.

Reaching the line for check-ins he inclined up to see the boy only two people ahead of him. "Um hi, excuse me?" he tapped the shoulder of the boy ahead of him.

"Oh, hello." the boy with big round glasses turned around smiling wide, displaying his braces. He looked too old to be dressing like a nerdy high schooler.

"Hi, I'm Jungkook." he smiled, and might have extended a hand forward if they weren't awkwardly holding onto two bags and a suitcase.

"I'm Hoseok. Beta. But you probably already smelled it." both chuckled fakely at the unfunny joke and sighed before Jungkook got to the point.

"Um, I'd be really grateful if you could let me in front of you. Actually I need-"

"Sure. We stan a polite alpha." Jungkook smiled and exchanged spots, visibly cringing at the 'we stan' thereafter.

He bent to the side to see the boy reach the receptionist as he scanned his ID and was asked for his details which was said too softly for him to catch.

What he did catch was the receptionist speaking Block O -92. which was not an information he was particularly looking for.

He didn't quite realize when it was his turn and the boy who he was wishing to talk to was already leaving ahead for the building block he was assigned.

"Block A- 184." the receptionist said and he lunged forward running after the boy who seemed to be looking for his way whilst struggling with what he thinks is around eight bags.

"Hey! Hey you!" he fastened and called out with all his might "Omega!!"

The boy seemed to have finally heard him and halted immediately, turning around slowly, biting his lip. His eyes blown wide in bewilderment as he saw the alpha run towards him.

He dragged the bag he had been clutching to his chest upwards to hide his face and then peeked out from it to find the strange alpha huffing breaths now in front of him.

"See, I'm sorry I banged into you but it was also your fault since you weren't looking either, so you have no right to be angry with me!" he said pointing a finger at the boy who lowered the bag now gulping.

A big indigo bump on the right of his forehead made the alpha tut at the sight.

"I'm not fighting with you so don't make that face like I just ate your puppy!" he spoke again when no response was presented. The said boy twisted his face weirdly before readjusting his bags.

"Don't talk to me like that!" he yelled back, eyes flashing between his original brown and an omega-blue signifying god knows what emotion. This gained the unwarranted attention of the passerbys who stopped crudely in hunger of some drama.

"Like, what? I'm literally apologizing here."

The boy only backed away and then turned around running the full wolf speed into the direction that was opposite to the board with the sign of block-O.

Jungkook, with the most confounded expression from the odd behavior, turns to the onlookers "What?!" that had all of them back away and scurry to wherever.

With a forehead furrowed and mind puzzled he started his journey to block-A.

"What a fucking weirdo."
