Work Text:

" Thanks, I'll be in room five. "

The secretary gave a wave back to Ron who slowly made his way through the Animal Hospital™, the constant lights flickering and sickly medicinal smell making his nerves work up.

For an establishment owned by Animal Corporation, the hospital was cheaply made, with small rooms that only accommodated for certain types of care and chairs that hurt your tail anytime you sat on them for longer than ten seconds.

Ron didn't have to be told to know that it was a front for something bigger.

He just needed the medicine.

Upon walking into the room all the way in the back end of the hall, Ron spotted a familiar face standing in the corner, fidgeting with the poster taped messily to the wall.

" What--How did- " The accountant stammered, " How did you get in here? "

Ratthew slightly smirked, though it wasn't easily visible, " I have my ways. "

Ron blinked before closing the door behind him, placing his briefcase on the floor beside the hospital bed he took a seat on, " Okay.. Well, how did you know I was going to be in here? "

Ratthew shrugged his shoulders, " Same answer.. " He peeked out the window to the door to make sure no one was coming before answering truthfully, " ...You're always in room five. "

Ron couldn't suppress a chuckle, patting the spot next to him. He didn't have to say anything for Ratthew to come sit with him.

" Now, it's my turn to ask questions, " The rat, slightly turned to face Ron, one leg dangling off the bed while the other was tucked in, " You've been coming here almost everyday.. why? "

Ron sighed, knowing this question was coming one way or another, " Headaches, " He crossed his own legs together, " That pharmacy doesn't sell the type of medication I need anymore, so I'm forced to get it from here. "

Ratthew listened carefully, before answering as smugly as he usually did, " And risk getting poisoned knowing that the corporation owns the Animal Hospital™? "

The accountant side-eyed the rat, " For starters, rat, I work there, and either way weren't you just ever so willing to give up your autonomy for them a few days ago? "

" I had my reasons. "

Ron shook his head, drumming his fingers against the thin sheets of the bed.

" Why do you even care so much? "

Ratthew hopped off of the bed, glancing at the clock hung above the door, " I just do. "

He climbed over piles of medical equipment before reaching a vent, easily removing the cover before sliding inside.

But before he left, he glanced over at Ron one final time, the accountant finally making out the wry smirk.

" You care about me, right? So It would be so rude of me to not return the favor. "

Just as the doorknob twisted and the door clicked open, Ratthew had quickly moved the cover back into placed and squirmed off somewhere else. Wherever else, Ron knew he'd be able to catch up with him later.

" Glad to see you here again, Mr. From Accounting, " The nurse walked over to the bed and took hold of Ron's arm, not reacting as he hissed from the needle piercing his skin to take a sample of his blood.

" Pleasure is all mine, " He groaned, rubbing his wrist painfully.

" You know, " She stared, processing his DNA, " You could just tell that rat to get a visitors tag the next time he comes to visit you. Dr. Harlow doesn't appreciate all the damages. "
