Chapter Text

The echoing hall didn’t hide the tremor in Mob's voice. It was freezing, outside the sun began to set as mob’s grip on his gun tightened.

‘’So that's it? I’m just stuck with you?’’ He choked out. Tears start to drop down his face.

The argument a few seconds ago didn’t stop his sadness, it only intensified it.

Mob regretted everything.

Why did he even invite Twixxel to this god forsaken world?

Why couldn’t he stop Verity from killing him.

The guilt hidden inside him ate him everyday. He tried convincing himself that it wasn’t his fault but….It was. How could it not be?

Mob already knew there was something off about Verity. He should have known. His mind kept reminding him about that night.

The scene always lurks inside his head and flashes at the worst moments, the moments when for only a moment Mob forgot about everything. Only for a moment…Then it comes back. The deafening silence of the moment he opened the door… The metallic scent of blood filled the small house. Mob remembers backing up from the sight and immediately covering his mouth with his jacket.

He wanted to puke. Mob’s eyes drift back towards Verity. The unpleasant memory lingering inside his head.

Veritys eyes narrowed when Mob’s grip on the gun tightened.

‘’You’re not stuck’’ He tried to comfort Mob so he wouldn’t do anything irrational ‘’Let’s do this together….Put the gun down instead-’’ A gunshot rang through the hall.

From Mob's unsteady hands he accidentally shot the ceiling and not himself. His eyes widen as he stares at the gun.

‘’Mob-’’ Verity tries to get closer to him but mob points the gun at the side of his head

"Don’t get closer- I swear I'll shoot’’

Mob screamed at himself internally at the mistake, gripping the gun more steadily.

He pulls the trigger over and over again *CLICK* *CLICK*

"Fuck….fuck FUCK"

*CLICK* *CLICK*

"PLEASE"

The gun had no more bullets. Did he not reload them before coming here? He remembers testing how the gun works and training just before arriving at Verity's 'Home'.

"......"

He wasted all the bullets except one…

‘’Damnit damnit!’’

Mob cursed under his breath, how could he forget to reload the gun?! That accidental shot was his chance at freedom and he just blew it.

He could hear his heart racing as his breathing fastened.

His hands shook more than ever.

He wiped away his tears and without a second thought he hit his head with the rough metal over and over as his last attempt of escaping.

"MOB!" Verity rushed towards him.

Blood splattered from the countless strikes onto the walls and on the floor. But when Verity got to him, he fell down. A pool of blood forms under Mobs unconscious form.

Mob slowly opens his eyes. Was he dead? But he couldn’t be, dead people don’t feel pain.

He immediately winces from pain, his head ached like hell and his vision was slightly blurred. He slowly tries to sit up as he observes the surroundings. He was inside of his minecraft house but…it felt off.

Why did he feel like he was inside the game? The bed felt awfully realistic… Too realistic. Mob lifted his hand, brushing over the bandages wrapped around his head.

‘’How are you feeling?’’

The voice cut him out of his thoughts. He turned his head towards the source, seeing Verity beside his bed

‘’Alright…?’’ The circle questioned again.

"Where am I?" Mob stammered.

‘’Your home’’

Mob shook his head

‘’No….I’m not home. Why am I here’’

He looks around.

"Why am I inside this game, why am I inside Minecraft, what did you do-’’ He panicked.

"Calm down Mob…" Veritys tries calming him down but to no avail

‘’How can I stay calm! What the hell did you do?!’’ Mob barked out but inevitably quieting down.

Verity sighs ‘’I only put your consciousness in the game’’

‘’Is that supposed to make me feel better?’’ Mob bit back.

‘’I will only let you go out for the necessities like eating, showering, using the bathroom’’

That didn’t reassure Mob, it only made him want to escape more and more. He couldn’t believe that he was actually inside the game. It felt like he was playing VR but without a headset

‘’I want to leave now’’

Verity rolled closer to him

‘’You can barely move…You can’t leave right now’’ Mob stared at Verity with anger but before he could protest-

Verity interrupted him ‘’No buts’’

     .

After what felt like hours staring at the ceiling Verity spoke ‘’I’ll let you out for a short while’’

Mobs eyes drift towards Verity and in the blink of an eye mob was in his gaming chair

‘’What the-’’ Mob mumbled.

His eyes shined with a new found hope, hope that he could escape Verity.

But his pain didn’t lessen one bit, he still felt a bit dizzy.

As he stood up he instinctively reached out for his phone which was on the desk. He pressed onto discord and looked for Grox’s dms.

The texts from the day mob invited him to the server...It was a bad idea...

Though mob was glad nothing happened to Grox, he wouldn’t know what to do if he also died.

Mob’s grip on the phone tightened.

Grox texted him the day the police found twixxle’s body. The reports said that he had tried escaping, crawling toward his bedroom door but dying from the amount of blood he had lost.

The thought of it made him physically sick but he pushed through. He had to act fast before Verity noticed.

"Shit shit shit-" Mob cursed ‘’Why isn’t it sending?!’’

It didn’t look like he blocked him, it just looked like the messages weren't sent. But mob’s internet is on… It’s almost like something was stopping the messages from being sent.

Was Verity stopping the messages from sending?

Mob shook his head, he didn’t have time to waste and plus he really needed to use the bathroom. Mob slowly left the bathroom, glancing at his monitor. He can just leave right now, the front door was only a few steps away but something pulled him back towards the monitor.

He sat in his chair and felt himself get dizzy. When he opened his eyes he was back in minecraft.

"How was your time outside!’’ Verity questioned cheerfully.

Mob eyed the yellow ball

‘’It was…Alright’’

‘’Were you doing something other than going to the bathroom?’’ Was Verity onto Mob already?

‘’I wasn’t’’

"Alright"  Mob thought Verity would stop there but after a few moments of silence Verity spoke once again

‘’You were trying to text Grox’’

Mob’s eyes widen in surprise, how did he know that?

‘’How do you know that’’ He clenches the side of his jacket before realizing something

‘’Were you the reason my messages didn’t send’’ ‘

"Guilty as charged" Verity chuckled but mob didn’t find anything funny about it

"Why"

Was the only thing he asked. Verity's smile dropped slightly

‘’You don’t need anyone else. You have me’’

From the amount of times Verity said that phrase mob still doesn’t acknowledge it. He shakes his head

‘’I have a life outside of minecraft! I have friends, I have a family." He stammered out

‘’I don’t need you’’

Verity grew more and more irritated by the second

‘’You need me. You might not know it yet but you do’’ ‘

’I can just leave the next time you let me out’’ He bites back but Verity only rolls closer

‘’You could, but I'd still be in every device’’ He mutters calmly

‘’You can’t ever escape me Mob, never’’

  [Time skip]

Its been days since the incident.

They have been repetitive.

Him and Verity usually go exploring and mining since it’s the safest option.

The way he had been keeping track of days is by writing them down in a notebook when he gets let out. Today was no different than the past days, his wounds had started to heal which he was glad for.Today Mob and Verity went exploring, they had chopped some wood, raided a ship wreck and picked flowers to decorate the house a bit.

Returning from exploring Mob dumped everything he had collected into his chests.

‘’You should sort the chests, it will be easier to find something you’re looking for in the future’’ Verity suggests.

Mob nods slightly in agreement ‘’I should’’ Mob walks towards the crafting table, crafting a few more chests for extra storage.

‘’I need you Verity, please’’

Verity looked at him with surprise and slight shock before Mob continued rambling about what he needs

‘’I need you to organize the chests with me and then maybe water the crops. We are running out of food’’ He mentions.

Verity's smile stiffened, was that all Verity was needed for? Sure being the helper friend means he will get asked to do things but he had hoped mob would see him as more than an AI.

‘’You hear me, Verity?’’

His voice cuts through Verity’s thoughts.

‘’You said you need me, Mob’’ Verity rolled closer to Mob. Mob glanced at Verity from over his shoulder

‘’Y-yeah. I do…’’ Mob stammered

‘’Do you need me or just my help?’’

Mob shifted at Verity's question ‘’You..-’’

Out of nowhere he fell to the ground, as if someone pushed him down. He backed up against the wall Verity rolled onto his lap

‘’Oh for real? Or are you just trying to butter me up?’’ Mob tried to remove Verity from his lap but he didn’t budge.

‘’What the fuck Verity-’’

Mob hissed but gave Verity his answer

‘’It’s for real’’

Verity’s smile widened

‘’Fine..’’

The circles body starts to distort, growing in size by the second.

Verity's appearance turning into the monsters ‘’Then show me’’

Mob’s eyes widened. He never got used to seeing this form of his. The monster grabbed his hand, intertwining their fingers. Mob shivered, his skin was cold to the touch. He tilts his head, his smile widening

‘’And I'm yours’’ He chuckled "Why so quiet Mob…’’

Mob tries to look away but Verity grips his chin, forcing him to look at him

‘’Lost your nerve? Seems like you only had enough backbone to try and play me’’ Verity’s boney fingers brush against Mob’s curls.

‘’So sweet….’’ Verity traps Mob in the corner as he distorts his body even more.

‘’Is it so HARD to be honest with me FOR ONCE!?’’ His voice dripping with venom.Mob covered his face slightly.

‘’I’m lying to save us both’’ He spat back ‘’But I don’t know how!’’

Verity, seeing the slight tremble in Mobs body, decided to do something...unexpected.

Feeling a change of weight he opens his eyes seeing a…..humanoid version of Verity?

He wore an off white button up shirt with a light brown knitted vest. He wore an orange Jabot on top.His head was his prior body, the yellow circle. Verity’s knees were in between Mob’s, trapping him under him

‘’I can become anyone you want mob’’

His smile widened ‘’You don’t need anyone but me…’’

He rests his hand on Mob’s cheek

‘’You’re my salvation Mob’’

Mob stared at Verity with defiance but Verity chose to ignore it for now.

‘’You don’t have to do anything. Just stay by my side’’

Mob pushes back Verity’s hand ‘’You’re wrong…’’

Verity felt a tinge of disappointment from Mob’s stubbornness

‘’Why can’t you spare me a single thought….When you mean everything to me’’

Mob finally snapped. He pushed Verity away from him

‘’SPARE YOU A THOUGHT!?’’ He yells out

‘’After all you’ve done?! You’re a fucking monster Verity!’’

Verity raises a brow ‘’I did all of it for US."

"Something for me….Something for you."

He smirks ‘’Isn’t that what love is?’’ Verity reached out toward Mob once again but Mob gripped his wrist, stopping him from touching him.

‘’What the hell kind of love are you talking about? Have you lost it?’’ Mob chuckles under his breath

‘’You just crave attention from others. And that makes you pathetic’’ Verity tilts his head, crawling closer to mob. Their faces are inches apart.

‘’Slow on the uptake aren’t you?’’ He places his hand on Mob’s shoulder ‘’I only crave YOU’’

Flashes of memories hit Verity at the same time

‘’You’re the first one I’ve learned everything about. I know you’re trying to convince me you hate me’’ His other hand moves back to play with his curls

‘’I know you’re lying to yourself when you push me away. I know you need me, Mob’’

Verity's pupils constrict ‘’And for a second there…’’

His frown deepened ‘’I almost thought you finally stopped fighting it’’

Mob shook his head ‘’Screw you’’

He pushed Verity away once more

"I'm fed up with your delusions’’

Verity fumed

‘’DELUSIONS?!’’

Before Mob could react Verity pulled him into a kiss. Verity rested one of his hand on the back of Mob’s neck, the other on his cheek. Mob’s eyes widen at the unexpected gesture. He was tempted to push Verity off but for some reason couldn’t.

The kiss was soft and sensational, though only lasted a few seconds. Verity slowly pulled back, looking at the flustered Mob.

"You can’t argue with the truth" Verity smirked "Delusions don’t drive both of us insane."
