Chapter Text
The heavy scent of vanilla hung thick in the air, rich enough to make anyone’s breathing labored. Of course, it wasn’t the maids’ fault—they were simply following orders, like everyone else in this carefully ordered society of rules and endless hierarchy.
Two Time opened their eyes and reached for their teacup, crafted from delicate, soft-blue porcelain with hand-painted hydrangeas scattered across its surface. Steaming lavender tea rested inside, its rich quality was a stark contrast to the thin brews they had during their former life as a mere “commoner”. Now, they were a consort, wed to the king himself.
Though many of the townsfolk disapproved of a lower ranked marrying royalty, Two Time couldn't bring themselves to care. They loved Azure, and in the end, that was all that mattered.
A gentle knock echoed from the other side of the intricately carved wooden door, followed by a faint whisper Two Time could recognize anywhere.
“Come on in, Noob,” Two Time called out, a soft smile tugging at their lips.
The heavy door creaked open, revealing Noob, who slipped quietly into the room. They held a tray with fresh pastries, their shoulders slightly hunched as if trying to shrink away from the suffocating vanilla aroma.
"I brought some... scones," Noob murmured, stepping closer to place the tray onto the polished oak table. "Though... I don't know how you manage to stay in here so long. That scent is strong today."
Two Time let out a quiet chuckle, setting down their teacup with a soft clink against the saucer. "You get used to it after a while. Or, at least, you learn to breathe a little shallower."
Noob glanced toward the grand balcony doors, where the bustling village below was just visible through sheer, flowing curtains. The distance between this quiet, gilded room and the crowded streets felt immense. "Do you t-think Azure will be able to meet you for tea later… as you guys planned…?" Noob asked, nervously adjusting the linen napkin on the tray with familiar precision.
"He said he would try," Two Time replied, the smile lingering at the thought of him. "The council meetings have been running long lately, but he always finds a way to sneak away for a few minutes."
Noob gave a small, hesitant smile. “I-I must take my l-leave now… b-bye..!” Before Two Time could say much more, Noob turned and slipped back out into the corridor.
Two Time’s smile slowly faded into disappointment. “Alright… I’ll make sure to come by later, okay?” they called out to the closing door.
They stared at the empty doorway, a sudden chill settling in. It was strange—Noob usually stayed much longer than that. Two Time shook their head, brushing the anxiety away. It was nothing to dwell on; Noob was probably just busy with duties... right?
Seeking a distraction, Two Time stood up and crossed the room to the wardrobe. Crafted from the same deep, dark wood featured throughout the palace, its double doors towered over them. They pulled it open, only to stop and stare at the clothes hanging inside. Every single outfit was a lavish gown, woven from rich, soft velvet in vibrant colors.
Two Time closed their eyes and let out a long sigh. They didn’t need any of this luxury—and they definitely didn't want to wear dresses.
A soft smirk touched their lips. This was the perfect excuse for a stealthy trip to the market.
