Work Text:

“Have a horrible time!” Morticia shouted as she closed the door of the house. Mal, Gomez, Lucas & Wednesday were all going to a Grateful Dead concert. She hadn’t wanted to go because she wasn’t a fan of the band or whatever they are. It was awfully mysterious why Alice didn’t go though. In fact, Morticia hadn’t seen her since yesterday. She didn’t even tell her own son goodbye. Morticia figured she ought to look around for her.

First up was the guest bedroom, where she & Mal would typically sleep when they came over. As Morticia approached the room, she heard a faint sobbing. She politely knocked on the old, wooden door.

“Hey! It’s me, Morticia. May I come in?”

“GO AWAY!!” She heard Alice shout, strained & distraught.

“Are you sure? You haven’t eaten breakfast, & you didn’t tell your son goodbye. Is something going on?”

“Just…JUST STOP WORRYING & GET OUT!!!” The words singed Morticia’s skin. How was she not supposed to worry? Despite it being completely rude, she walked into the room & closed the door behind her.

Alice sat the bed, crying her eyes out into a pillow. She looked up at Morticia.

“I-I told you to go away.” Alice could no longer bother to scream, “Why would you want to see me like this?”

Morticia sat down on the side of the bed. “Because I’ve never seen you like this. You are such a strong woman & I don’t want to imagine what must’ve happened in order for you to get like this.”

She scooted a little further onto the bed. To her suprise, Alice put the pillow beside her & shoved herself into Morticia’s arms. Despite being caught off guard, she quickly wrapped her arms around Alice’s body.

“It’s ok, you’re alright, you can cry into my shoulder. Everything’s going to be ok.”

They sat in silence together as Alice continued to cry. The tears seeped through Morticia’s shirt but she didn’t mind. She couldn’t. The moment was too precious, being able to cradle Alice like this. Their bodies fit together in a way her & Gomez’s never could. Her throat filled with guilt while she tried not to feel some sort of thrill.

“Im sorry.” Alice sniffled through Morticia’s clothes.

“What could you possibly be sorry about?”
Morticia spoke softly, though accidentally coming off as a little rude.

Alice sat up, letting go of Morticia & laying her hands in her lap. Her face was wet with tears, & her hair clung her cheeks lightly. She looked over to the side akwardly, Morticia could’ve begged Alice to look her. It was only to see what she was thinking, Morticia said to herself. That was it, yeah.

“It’s just that, um,” Alice spoke up, still not quite facing Morticia, “I know that me & Mal made up & all, & things have been great between us, but it’s not the same. I do love him, but something has always been missing. There’s always been this pain that I can’t explain. At first I thought that it was a child, that’s how we ended up with Lucas. But now it’s more apparent than ever.” Alice said, stumbling to find the right words.

The words rang inside Morticia. Alice finally looked at her & the birds started chirping & singing outside. She tentatively reached out her hand & placed it against Morticia’s cheek. The touch was so gentle it hurt. Morticia leaned into it, knowing should’ve done differently.

“I know you love Gomez too, & I’m sorry, but I just have to ask. Can I kiss you?”

Morticia thought for a second, before shaking her head yes.

“Are you sure? I don’t want to do anything that you’re not comfortable with.”

“I want to kiss you.” Morticia replied swiftly. It almost hurt to say, but my my was it worth it.

Afterwards, they stared at each other & smiled.

“Keep no secrets, eh?” Alice said. They both chuckled.
