Work Text:
There’s a part of Shawn that loves everything about who he gets to be now that he gets to be with Cory. He loves that when they call the Matthews he gets to see Cory so happy and relaxed (they’d spent months avoiding talking for too long in case they let something slip) so now that they know and approve, he can be more relaxed.
Which Cory absolutely deserves. He deserves all the happiness in the world and being able to talk openly and happily with his family.
Nothing and no one standing in the way.
That’s why Shawn’s wandering away from the campsite into the wilderness when Cory chats away with his family. They’re Shawn’s family, too, he knows but sometimes, he likes giving them time alone to chat.
He loves just how much nature and wilderness they’ve gotten to explore as they track their way through the various states. Cory sometimes mentions his trip with Eric not long after he got back together with Topanga, but all Shawn can think about is how he got so little talk about that trip because Cory was a little more focused on Topanga.
Now, though, he’s gotten every little detail. Memories of trips to big cities and little trips into the wilderness. Sunsets and sunrises, trips to every tourist destination ever.
A lot of those places Cory has insisted on taking him to as well (claiming, of course, that they’d be so much better with his boyfriend instead of his brother). Then he blushes nearly giddy as he repeats boyfriend much in the way he had when he’d originally been so stupid over Topanga.
It’s kinda nice. It makes him feel good.
He loves making Cory blush, he loves that he’s looking at him in the same way that he used to look at Topanga, and he really loves getting to be his first for so many things. They’re really on an adventure together and he just loves that.
He finds a particularly nice-looking log by a little lake and takes a seat.
It’s so peaceful out here in the wilderness. He can hear the hum of the birds, the whistling of the wind, the running water, it’s so… different than the city, but largely for the better.
He loves it out here, but cities have more people that are interested in photography and videography for their keep sakes.
Still, he can’t resist taking out his camera and taking several shots of the wildlife all around him. Spring has allowed for some critters to emerge from their nests, and it’s made for unbelievably pretty photos.
“There you are,” Cory says as he finds him. “Why’d you disappear?”
“Wanted to give you some time alone to talk to them,” he offers with a shrug. Then, noticing the way Cory is looking at him with the glow of the sun behind him and the trees and flowers starting to bloom.
He focuses his camera on Cory, who smiles in a bashful way.
“Another picture, Shawn?” Cory teasingly, asks.
“You look perfect here,” he assures him. “Absolutely the perfect boyfriend, totally gorgeous.”
Cory flushes, pleased. He’s always quick to compliment Shawn, but he knows he hasn’t gotten a lot of those comments himself.
He’s happy to give them away without even trying, especially when they make Cory so happy.
So, he smiles and patiently waits for Shawn to be satisfied before he finally gets to approach Shawn and kiss him. He throws his arms around Shawn’s neck, running his hands through his hair, happily letting Shawn’s hands land on his waist, grateful that his camera can hang from around his neck.
Shawn has always loved kissing and kissing Cory has quickly become one of his all-time favorite things to do. He could so easily get lost in his lips. The taste, the slight roughness, the way that they melt together as if they were always meant to be lip-locked forever and ever.
Sadly, they aren’t alone in their home, so he leans back, smiling at Cory wishing that he hadn’t walked so far into the wilderness because it’s going to take a bit to get back to the trailer.
“I love your kisses,” Shawn admits, hands still on his waist.
It’s easy to tell Cory these things. Cory’s his best friend, his boyfriend. He’s so easy to talk to, and it’s easily become his favorite relationship ever.
“Just my kisses?” Cory teases, arms loosening but resting calmly on his shoulders. “Because I’ve been working really hard at getting good at other things.”
Shawn laughs. “Well, I mean, kisses are just one of many things that I love about you.”
“There’s a lot of things I love about you, too, Shawnie,” Cory admits, smiling brightly. “Like even though you know my family want to talk to you, too, you still try to give me space to talk to them.”
Shawn shrugs. “I just… I know you’d do the same if I ever needed to talk to Jack or… well, Jack.”
“Speaking of, Eric wanted to know if we were going to be near Philly on opening day,” Cory says. “He and Jack were thinking of going to the game and he thought maybe it wouldn’t hurt to bring back an old tradition? This time with the Matthews and Hunters brothers?”
Shawn grins. “I’d love that. Haven’t spoken to Jack since before we left, it’d be good to see him, and I know how much you love baseball.”
“You love baseball, too.”
“Yeah, but not as much as you,” Shawn counters. “You wanted to be a pitcher, remember?”
Cory laughs. “That was before I knew how badly I sucked at sports.”
Shawn laughs. “Fair. Still, I love it. It’ll be great.”
“Good, then, let’s head back and I’ll tell Eric to get the tickets,” Cory offers. Then, he lowers his voice. “And then, maybe I can show what I love to suck at.”
Shawn laughs. “The one time sucking is a good thing.”
“A great thing,” Cory counters.
“Absolutely.”
“Good.”
