Oranges

Summary:

An orange or smt idk

Notes:

So I got rage baited at the lack of Torisai fics in general so I made my own. Kinda made two different versions of it but I got embarrassed of the first one.

And If I said I don’t know English would y’all accept my ass writing or obliterate me on the spot
T~T

Plus brownie points if you know what poem this is based off of.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Saiki heard his name called out in the background. Again.

Typically, Saiki would react to this with a sort of annoyance, questioning what they could possibly need from him. He is indeed annoyed don’t get him wrong, but he’s not reeling in for a flurry of chaos.

Instead, he’s sat firmly back against the school wall, hidden from the rest of the students enjoying lunch outside. Waiting for the student to eventually find him.

Less than a beat later, Saiki’s met with a panting Toritsuka turning the corner-how could he be panting, he’s only ran for a minute or so- eyes locked on the psychic. It’s become accustomed to Saiki, a routine of sorts, for Toritsuka to come hailing for a request. And among the sea of those selfish and idiotic favors, he only partakes in the one Toritsuka’s about to ask.

“Can you peel this orange for me please?”

Toritsuka says, now standing in front of him, only a step away from squishing Saiki's perfectly empty bento box. As for the request, he hands out the fruit in question.

The orange looks identical to the one he had yesterday, and the day before, and the day before. Slick, ripe, and in Saiki’s face. And it’ll meet the same fate as its twins.

He doesn’t respond to the question verbally, as he already took the fruit in his hands and started to peel it with practiced ease. And in a matter of seconds, it falls apart into a little flower, its sections easy and neat to eat. It wasn’t that hard, it didn’t even require any magic trick or psychic kick. But you wouldn't know that by looking at Toritsuka’s dazzled face.

It was a mystery to Saiki as to why Toritsuka couldn’t just learn to do it himself, or find someone closer to do it for him. It was annoying and repetitive and he should just tell Toritsuka no next time.

Speaking on the medium, he’s gone off happy as ever. Thanking Saiki, stating that he always peels it perfectly and how it’s a wonder how he makes it look so effortless.

...

Then again, Toritsuka can’t do it himself. And in a perfect world, he never does.

Notes:

Ik Ik I truly outdid myself here, jk tho I finally get why authors take years to finish these things.

Anyway for the lucky lucky winner the poem was based of of Jean Little’s Oranges. Pretty consistent but good nonetheless.

….
Shhhhhhh keep this on the down low, but I miiiiiight be making more
And maybe a Carmen Sandiego fic if I get the guts to do one
